A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11For most multi-cat homes that want the strongest all-around premium option, choose the Whisker Litter-Robot 5. It supports up to five cats weighing 3–30 pounds, separates urine and feces with WasteID, tracks usage and weight in the Whisker app, and includes a 90-day in-home trial. For the best value, choose the PETKIT PuraMax 2: it costs substantially less, has a low entry, app control, a sealed waste bin, odor-control features, and 11 safety sensors.
The right choice still depends on your cats. The Litter-Robot 5 is better suited to larger or multi-cat households; the PuraMax 2 is more attractive for budget-conscious owners, senior cats, and homes where a lower entry matters. Buyers who specifically want camera-based identification and richer health-related trend data should consider the Litter-Robot 5 Pro, PETKIT Purobot Max Pro 2, or PETKIT Purobot Ultra.

| Model | U.S. price at research time | Best for | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| PETKIT PuraMax 2 | $399.99 sale; $499.99 regular | Value, low entry, odor management, and app control | Supports cats only up to 22 pounds and does not provide camera-based monitoring |
| Litter-Robot EVO | Starts at $599 | One- or two-cat homes wanting a more compact Whisker model | Less capacity and sensing capability than the higher-end Whisker models |
| Litter-Robot 4 | Starts at $699 | Owners wanting a mature premium model with more advanced litter and waste-level sensing than EVO | Its supported household size and interior are below the Litter-Robot 5 line |
| Litter-Robot 5 | Starts at $799 | Best premium all-around choice, especially for multi-cat homes | High upfront cost; it still requires cleaning, litter management, and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection |
| Litter-Robot 5 Pro | Starts at $899 | Premium camera-based monitoring and individual cat insights | Highest-priced Whisker model; some features require Whisker+ |
| PETKIT Purobot Max Pro 2 or Purobot Ultra | Varies by model and sale | Camera monitoring, multi-cat recognition, and richer health-related trend data | More ecosystem complexity, and some health features depend on special PETKIT litter or paid features |
Bottom line: buy the Litter-Robot 5 if capacity, cat-weight range, and dependable premium monitoring matter more than price. Buy the PuraMax 2 if you want automatic waste handling at the lower price of the two headline products and your cats fit comfortably within its smaller enclosure.
Litter-Robot 5 vs. PETKIT PuraMax 2
These are the most useful direct comparison because they target similar buyers while making different trade-offs. Litter-Robot emphasizes capacity, multi-cat support, and a polished monitoring system. PETKIT emphasizes affordability, a low entrance, leak containment, and odor control.
| Feature | Litter-Robot 5 | PETKIT PuraMax 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer-listed U.S. price | $799 starting price | $499.99 regular price; $399.99 sale price at research time |
| Cat weight range | 3–30 pounds | 3.3–22 pounds |
| Household capacity | Designed for up to five cats | Best evaluated according to the size and habits of the individual cats; PETKIT’s 15-day waste-bin claim assumes one cat |
| Monitoring | Whisker app usage and weight insights, WasteID, and an LCD display | App control and weight-based monitoring; no camera-based visual monitoring |
| Camera | No integrated camera in the standard Litter-Robot 5 | No camera-based monitoring |
| Waste capacity claim | Whisker says a one-cat household may go about 10 days between drawer emptying | PETKIT says the 7-liter waste bin may support up to 15 days in a one-cat household |
| Connectivity | Requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; 5 GHz Wi-Fi is not supported | App control is supported; confirm current network requirements before purchase |
| Warranty and buyer protection | One-year WhiskerCare warranty included and a 90-day in-home trial | Two-year limited U.S. warranty for qualifying purchases made on or after January 1, 2025 through PETKIT or authorized U.S. distributors |
Neither waste-drawer estimate is a promise. Litter type, the number of cats, how much each cat urinates, and how often the box cycles all affect capacity. Treat both figures as manufacturer assumptions rather than guaranteed time between emptying.

Why the Litter-Robot 5 is the best premium choice
The Litter-Robot 5 is the strongest recommendation when the main goal is reducing routine scooping in a busy multi-cat home without giving up useful household data. Whisker lists support for up to five cats weighing 3–30 pounds, which gives it a meaningful advantage over the PuraMax 2 for homes with larger cats or several animals sharing one box.
Its main differentiator is WasteID, which Whisker describes as a system for distinguishing urine from feces. The Whisker app also provides usage and weight insights, allowing an owner to notice changes in litter-box behavior. Those trends can be useful for deciding when to observe a cat more closely or call a veterinarian, but they are not a veterinary diagnosis.
Compared with the Litter-Robot 4, the Litter-Robot 5 adds WasteID, a slightly larger interior, improved waste-drawer distribution, an LCD display, and a broader listed cat-weight range. It also includes a fence, carbon filter, and five waste-drawer liners. The included one-year WhiskerCare warranty and 90-day in-home trial reduce the risk of committing to an expensive enclosed machine that a cat ultimately refuses to use.
The trade-off is price and ongoing care. Whisker does not describe the Litter-Robot 5 as maintenance-free. Its care guidance calls for spot cleaning as needed, basic globe cleaning every one to three months, and a deep cleaning at least every three months. Owners must still add litter, replace liners, empty the waste drawer, maintain the carbon filter, and clean sensors and surfaces. The machine reduces scooping; it does not eliminate litter-box work.

Why the PETKIT PuraMax 2 is the best value
The PETKIT PuraMax 2 automatic litter box is the more defensible value pick for buyers who want automatic cleaning, app control, odor management, and a sealed waste system without paying Litter-Robot 5 pricing. PETKIT lists a 3.3–22-pound cat-weight range, so it is a particularly relevant option for small and medium-sized cats.
PETKIT lists the PuraMax 2 at 24.4 × 21.18 × 21.7 inches, with a 76-liter cylinder capacity, a 7.87 × 10.03-inch entry, and a product weight of 22 pounds. The low threshold and wide entry may make it easier for a senior or short-legged cat to approach than a taller enclosed design. However, entry dimensions are not the same as interior comfort. A large or long-bodied cat needs enough room to turn around, and a cat’s body shape can matter as much as its scale reading.
The design focuses on containment and odor reduction. PETKIT describes a seamless ShieldBase, an xSecure structure intended to keep the entrance open during rotation, 11 high-precision safety sensors, triple deodorization, and a sealed waste bin. Its 7-liter waste bin is advertised as lasting up to 15 days in a one-cat household. Again, that is a manufacturer capacity claim, not an independently verified guarantee for every home.

- 📱Smart App Integration: Seamlessly connect the litter box to the app using 2.4GHz Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Monitor your cat's health in real-time and access detailed usage history, including weight, time spent, and frequency of use.

Independent testing makes the value case more nuanced. Cats.com gave the PuraMax 2 a 3.8/5 overall rating after weeks of testing. The review praised odor reduction, safety features, and the leakproof liner, but criticized the deep-cleaning process and reported that the tester used a vacuum to finish emptying the unit. The same review recorded customer complaints about sensor failures, leakage, and insufficient room for some larger cats. Those are reported test and customer experiences, not evidence that every PuraMax 2 will fail or leak.
PETKIT’s U.S. warranty policy gives PuraMax 2 units purchased on or after January 1, 2025 a two-year limited warranty when bought through PETKIT or an authorized U.S. distributor. Keep the receipt and confirm that the seller is authorized. A marketplace listing can have different return, warranty, or support implications depending on the seller.
Which model fits your household?
Choose Litter-Robot 5 for multiple or larger cats
The Litter-Robot 5 is the safer starting point when you have several cats, a cat near or above 22 pounds, or a household where a smaller drum could become crowded. Its official range reaches 30 pounds and its listed capacity reaches five cats. Weight alone does not guarantee comfort, though: verify the entry and interior against your cat’s body shape, and watch whether the cat can enter, turn, and exit without hesitation.
Choose PuraMax 2 for value and a lower entry
The PuraMax 2 makes more sense when the price difference matters, your cats are comfortably within the 3.3–22-pound range, and you prefer a low threshold and sealed waste-bin design. It is also the better fit for shoppers who do not want to pay extra for a camera they may rarely use.
Recommended Free Tools
Choose Litter-Robot 5 Pro for Whisker’s premium camera option
The Litter-Robot 5 Pro starts at $899 and uses the Litter-Robot 5 platform, including the 3–30-pound range and WasteID. Its main addition is an integrated dual-camera system that Whisker says supports cat identification and richer individual insights. Some features require Whisker+, so calculate the ongoing ecosystem cost rather than comparing only the purchase price.
Choose Purobot Max Pro 2 or Purobot Ultra for camera-heavy monitoring
PETKIT positions the Purobot Max Pro 2 and Purobot Ultra above the PuraMax 2 for AI camera monitoring, multi-cat recognition, urine-pH monitoring when used with PETKIT’s special litter, stool-image tracking, and individual health profiles. PETKIT’s current manual-download materials list both models in its automatic-cleaning lineup.
These features are best understood as household trend data. Urine-pH readings and stool images do not diagnose urinary, digestive, or other medical conditions. They may help an owner notice a change and decide to contact a veterinarian, but they should not replace veterinary examination or laboratory testing. They also add more cameras, software, consumables, and potential paid ecosystem features to the ownership equation.
Choose EVO for a lower-cost Whisker option
Whisker lists the Litter-Robot EVO at $599 and describes it as a more compact, streamlined model for one- to two-cat homes. It offers built-in app insights, but it has less capacity and sensing capability than the Litter-Robot 4 and Litter-Robot 5. It is a reasonable choice when you want the Whisker app and brand ecosystem but do not need the largest available model.
What independent testing can—and cannot—tell you
Manufacturer specifications are useful for listed prices, dimensions, cat-weight ranges, warranty terms, app requirements, included accessories, and advertised functions. They do not prove that every unit will be equally reliable, that odor will disappear in every room, or that every cat will accept a rotating enclosed box.
The available independent evidence is also not a controlled head-to-head comparison. Cats.com tested the PuraMax 2 specifically and reported both notable strengths and deep-cleaning drawbacks. Rover’s review of the Litter-Robot 4 reported stronger odor control and quieter operation than an older PuraMax design, while noting that the PuraMax occupied less space. That is useful context, but it compares different products under different review methods; it should not be treated as a laboratory test of PuraMax 2 versus Litter-Robot 5.
The fairest conclusion is therefore conditional: Litter-Robot has the stronger documented premium capacity and multi-cat range, while PETKIT offers a lower entry price and a design centered on low access, containment, and odor control. Neither brand’s marketing claims should be converted into a universal reliability or odor-elimination guarantee.

- 😸Ideal for small to medium cats: Designed to accommodate kittens and medium-sized cats, this litter box is suitable for pets weighing between 3.5 lb and 15 lb. A great option for single or multiple cat homes.
- 🔕Low-Noise Performance: With operating sound kept below 35 dB—similar to a soft whisper or gentle appliance hum—it won’t disturb your daily life or your pet’s rest.
- 📱App Connectivity: Connect quickly via 2.4GHz Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and stay informed with real-time monitoring. The app provides detailed data, including your cat’s weight, visit duration, and frequency.
- 💦Simple Cleaning Process: The user-friendly structure allows for easy maintenance. Just remove the drum for quick cleaning, and the washable design ensures better hygiene.
- 🔧Assembly Required: Setup takes about 30 minutes. For best results, please review the instruction manual and watch the installation video before starting.
Ownership costs and maintenance to plan for
The purchase price is only the first cost. Budget for litter, waste-drawer liners or bags, carbon or odor-control consumables, electricity, litter mats, replacement parts, and occasional deep cleaning. PETKIT also sells proprietary odor-control products and accessories; verify compatibility before substituting products between brands.

- Waste handling: Empty the drawer or bin based on its actual fill level, not only the advertised number of days.
- Cleaning: Spot-clean surfaces when needed. For the Litter-Robot 5, follow Whisker’s guidance for basic globe cleaning every one to three months and deep cleaning at least every three months.
- Sensors: Keep sensors and the surrounding area clean. A dirty sensor can create an apparent software or mechanical problem.
- Consumables: Confirm the exact model before ordering liners, mats, filters, litter, or odor-control refills. Product compatibility is not universal.
- Connectivity: If you buy Litter-Robot 5, make sure the intended location has a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection. A 5 GHz-only network will not meet its stated requirement.
- Warranty: Save the invoice, confirm the seller, and read the current warranty terms before installing or modifying the unit.
If you are shopping for recurring supplies, current marketplace categories include automatic litter box liners, litter mats, and other compatible accessories. Check the model name and seller before ordering; a generic-looking liner or filter is not automatically suitable for every machine.
Buying and setup checklist
- Weigh every cat. Compare the actual weights with the manufacturer’s range, then account for body length and turning space.
- Measure the intended location. Use the full product footprint, not just the opening. Leave practical room for the cat to approach and for you to remove the waste container and clean the unit.
- Check the network before unboxing. For Litter-Robot 5, confirm that 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is available where the box will sit.
- Verify the seller and warranty. A lower marketplace price may not provide the same authorized-distributor warranty or customer support.
- Plan a transition period. Keep the existing box available while your cat investigates the new one, and follow the manufacturer’s introduction instructions rather than forcing immediate use.
- Choose compatible litter and consumables. Read the current manual and product specifications before stocking up.
- Test the app and safety behavior. Confirm that notifications, cat profiles, and waste-level reporting work as expected before relying on them.
- Keep a manual backup plan. An automatic box can stop cycling, lose connectivity, fill unexpectedly, or need cleaning. Every household should still be prepared to scoop and clean manually.
Where Litter-Robot and PETKIT fit in the current lineup
There is no single “best automatic litter box” independent of the buyer’s priorities. The current Whisker range runs from the compact, one- or two-cat EVO at $599 to the camera-equipped Litter-Robot 5 Pro at $899. The Litter-Robot 4 at $699 remains a middle option, while the Litter-Robot 5 at $799 is the broadest premium recommendation because of its five-cat capacity, 30-pound upper limit, WasteID, LCD, and app insights.
PETKIT’s range separates the PuraMax 2 from the camera-oriented Purobot models. The PuraMax 2 is the value-focused product; the Purobot Max Pro 2 and Purobot Ultra are for owners willing to pay for visual monitoring, multi-cat identification, and additional data. More data is not automatically better if you will not review it or if you do not want special litter and extra ecosystem costs.
For marketplace shopping, Amazon’s self-cleaning litter-box category included listings for the PuraMax 2 and Litter-Robot 4, along with compatible liners and accessories at the time of research. Verify the exact model, seller, return policy, warranty, and current price before checking out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an automatic litter box eliminate scooping and cleaning?
No. Both brands reduce routine scooping, but owners still need to empty the waste container, add litter, replace liners or filters, clean sensors and surfaces, and perform periodic deep cleaning. Whisker specifically recommends spot cleaning as needed, basic globe cleaning every one to three months, and deep cleaning at least every three months for the Litter-Robot 5.
Is the PETKIT PuraMax 2 better than the Litter-Robot 5?
It is better for a buyer whose priorities are lower price, low entry, sealed waste containment, and odor control, provided the cats fit within the 3.3–22-pound range. The Litter-Robot 5 is the better choice for larger or multiple cats, a 3–30-pound range, WasteID, a larger interior, and premium app-based insights.
Can these litter boxes diagnose health problems?
No. Usage, weight, urine-pH, and stool-image features can provide household trends that may prompt a call to your veterinarian. They should not be treated as a diagnosis or a substitute for veterinary examination and testing.
Which automatic litter box is best for a large cat?
The Litter-Robot 5 or 5 Pro has the higher official weight ceiling at 30 pounds, compared with 22 pounds for the PuraMax 2. Confirm the cat’s body shape and entry comfort as well as weight, because a listed weight range does not guarantee that every large cat will find an enclosed drum comfortable.
The Bottom Line
Choose the Litter-Robot 5 for the strongest premium all-around package and the broadest multi-cat and weight support. Choose the PETKIT PuraMax 2 for lower-cost automation, a low entry, and sealed-bin odor management. Move up to the Litter-Robot 5 Pro or PETKIT’s Purobot models only when camera-based identification and richer trend data justify the extra cost and complexity. Whichever model you buy, treat it as a scooping reduction system—not a maintenance-free replacement for observing your cats and caring for their litter area.
