The 7 Best Reusable Paper Towels

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Papaya reusable paper towels are the best overall starting point based on the available editorial spill testing, but they are not the best format for every kitchen. Geometry offers larger fast-drying cloths, cotton-flannel rolls feel most like conventional paper towels, bamboo rolls prioritize thickness, and Swedish dishcloths dry fastest.

The best reusable paper towels depend on how you clean. Papaya is the strongest overall choice based on available editorial spill testing, while Geometry is better for larger, fast-drying recycled-fiber cloths. Choose Marley’s Monsters or Three Huggers if you want a conventional roll-and-dispense routine, Ecozoi or Seek for thicker bamboo formats, and Wettex-style Swedish dishcloths for the fastest-drying, more sponge-like option.

These products are not one uniform category. Some are thin cellulose-and-cotton sponge cloths, some are cotton-flannel towels that imitate a paper-towel sheet, and others are thicker bamboo or recycled-fiber cloths. The right format affects absorbency, drying time, laundry workload, holder compatibility and end-of-life disposal.

The recommendations below combine Shop TODAY’s editorial test of 10 popular products with current manufacturer specifications. The test compared water, ketchup, chili oil and honey, but it was not a controlled laboratory study and did not establish long-term durability, total cost of ownership or environmental impact.

Quick comparison

Product Format and material Approximate size Best for Important caveat

Geometry Not Paper Towels Recycled-fiber performance cloth 13.5 × 8.5 inches; six per set Fast drying, larger coverage and attractive designs Liquid-capacity and recycled-content figures are brand claims
Marley’s Monsters UNpaper Towels Single-ply 100% cotton flannel 10 × 12 inches Traditional roll-and-dispense use Requires regular laundering and can take longer to dry than sponge cloths
Ecozoi Bamboo Kitchen Paper Rolls Thick bamboo-fiber roll About 11 × 11 inches; 80 sheets total Large, thick sheets and repeated washing Bamboo labeling is not chemically identical across products
Three Huggers Reusable Paper Towels Single-ply 100% cotton flannel 10 × 12 inches; eight per set Soft cloths that also work as dinner napkins Print selection and availability vary
Seek Bamboo Reusable Paper Towels Washable bamboo-fiber roll 30 sheets per roll Bamboo format with a dedicated wash bag Reuse and chemical-free claims come from the manufacturer
Wettex or comparable Swedish dishcloths Cellulose-and-cotton sponge cloth Varies by brand Fast drying, counters, dishes and glass Thin and sponge-like rather than a paper-towel-roll substitute

Prices are approximate direct-site observations from the research period, not guarantees: Papaya about $18 for two, Geometry about $15 for six, Marley’s Monsters about $85 for a 12- or 24-towel printed listing, Ecozoi $29.95 for four rolls and Three Huggers about $20 for eight. Verify current pricing, pack size and stock before buying.

1. Papaya Reusable Paper Towels: best overall

Papaya is the best default pick for shoppers who want a compact, quick-rinsing cloth for everyday spills. In Shop TODAY’s four-mess test, its sheets needed two swipes for ketchup, three for chili oil, three for honey and one for water. Testers said the material cleaned all four stains, rinsed readily after ketchup and became softer and more absorbent when wet.

#1 Best Overall

  • LINT-FREE & SOFT: Made of 80% Polyester and 20% Poly-amide, these cleaning rags are soft to the touch and lint-free. They hardly shed fluff and can effectively protect the surface of items you clean.
  • QUICK TEAR-AWAY RAG DESIGH: these microfiber cleaning cloths are packaged in a roll, they can be easily torn off as needed, similar to paper towels; each roll contains 55 cloths; Swiftly get a microfiber cloth from our convenient rolls for instant cleaning.
  • MULTIFUNCTIONAL: Perfect for a wide range of cleaning tasks. Best choice for household chores, kitchen cleaning, garage cleaning, window cleaning, and automotive detailing. Multifuntional microfiber cleaning cloth rolls.
  • WASHABLE & REUSABLE: These microfiber towels are durable and made to last hundreds of washings. They are designed to last for multiple uses; helps reduce waste compared to disposable options; provides long-lasting performance.

Each sheet is approximately 6.6 by 7.8 inches and is made, according to Papaya, from 70% cellulose and 30% cotton. That relatively small footprint makes it easy to rinse and hang, but it also means one sheet covers less area than the flannel or bamboo choices in this guide. For a large spill, drying dishes or wiping an entire counter, you may prefer a larger cloth.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Papaya also describes a patented hole-and-hook hanging system and a quick-drying construction. The company says one sheet can replace up to 17 rolls of paper towels. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified life-cycle or cost comparison. Papaya also describes the sheets as compostable; disposal depends on the product’s actual materials, any contamination and the rules of your municipal or commercial composting service.

Choose it if: you want the easiest starting point for routine spills and do not need a full-size towel.

Skip it if: you routinely wipe large surfaces or want a roll that feels almost identical to paper towels.

2. Geometry Not Paper Towels: best fast-drying recycled-fiber option

Geometry is a better fit for readers who want a larger cloth, fast drying and a more finished-looking kitchen textile. Sets contain six towels measuring approximately 13.5 by 8.5 inches. The company positions them for spills, glass, stainless steel and countertops, and Shop TODAY named Geometry its pick for kitchen aesthetics.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Geometry says the fabric uses post-consumer recycled materials, is machine washable and dries quickly. It also reports that the material holds seven times its weight in liquid and keeps 3.5 plastic bottles from landfill. Treat those figures as brand-reported specifications rather than independent performance or environmental measurements.

The brand recommends washing each towel before first use, dampening it for cleaning, rinsing it between deeper washes and drying it in a ventilated area. That care routine is particularly useful for a quick-drying cloth: a towel that is left bunched up beside the sink can still smell regardless of how quickly it dries when properly hung.

Choose it if: you want more coverage than Papaya, a fast-drying fabric and contemporary designs.

Skip it if: you specifically want a natural-fiber cloth with a manufacturer-stated compostability claim.

3. Marley’s Monsters UNpaper Towels: best traditional roll format

Marley’s Monsters is the strongest choice for anyone who wants reusable towels to behave like a conventional paper-towel roll. The single-ply towels are approximately 10 by 12 inches, made from 100% cotton flannel and finished with sewn edges. A reusable 11-inch kraft tube is designed to fit most paper-towel holders, so you can pull off one towel at a time instead of keeping a loose pile near the sink.

The larger sheet is more practical than Papaya for wiping counters, drying hands or handling a bigger spill. Cotton flannel also has a familiar soft towel feel. The trade-off is laundry: unlike a thin sponge cloth, a flannel towel needs to be collected, washed and dried as part of a regular rotation.

Marley’s Monsters says absorbency improves after the first few washes. Its care guidance is to wash hot with like colors and tumble dry low. The printed designs, pack sizes and direct-site prices can change; the research-period listing showed 12- or 24-towel options and an approximately $85 direct price, so confirm the exact quantity before ordering.

Choose it if: one-at-a-time dispensing and compatibility with a paper-towel holder matter most.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Skip it if: you have little drying space or want a cloth that can be rinsed and rehung repeatedly throughout the day.

4. Ecozoi Bamboo Kitchen Paper Rolls: best thick bamboo roll

Ecozoi’s roll format is aimed at shoppers who want a thicker, larger reusable sheet. The direct product listing describes four rolls with 20 sheets each—80 sheets total—and approximately 11-by-11-inch sheets. Ecozoi markets the material as extra thick, machine washable and made from organic bamboo fiber, with plastic-free packaging.

The company says each sheet can be used 100 or more times. That is a manufacturer longevity claim, not a guaranteed service life: actual life will depend on washing, drying, the messes handled and whether the cloth is exposed to grease, paint or harsh chemicals.

Bamboo labeling deserves careful attention. Good Housekeeping’s 2026 reusable-paper-towel reporting notes that some products marketed as bamboo are actually rayon produced by chemically processing bamboo pulp. Ecozoi should be described according to the material stated on its current product listing, but shoppers should not assume that every product labeled bamboo has the same fiber composition or manufacturing process.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose it if: you prefer a thick, full-size roll and are willing to manage a heavier laundry item.

Skip it if: your priority is the quickest possible drying or a compact cloth for small spills.

5. Three Huggers Reusable Paper Towels: best soft cotton-flannel roll alternative

Three Huggers offers a straightforward cotton-flannel alternative to disposable rolls. Its sets contain eight single-ply, 10-by-12-inch cloths with serged edges. The towels are machine washable and dryer safe, and the brand says they fit existing paper-towel holders and become more absorbent with washing.

Shop TODAY included Three Huggers among the products it tested and named the set best for dinner napkins. That makes this option useful in kitchens where the same soft cloths may serve as napkins for meals and towels for light cleanup. Use separate towels for messier jobs rather than moving a cloth from a raw-food or greasy cleanup directly to the table.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The main distinction from Marley’s Monsters is not a radically different cleaning method; both are large, single-ply cotton-flannel formats intended to work with a roll workflow. Choose between them based on the exact print, pack, holder setup and availability rather than assuming one will be universally more absorbent.

6. Seek Bamboo Reusable Paper Towels: best bamboo option with a wash bag

Seek Bamboo’s differentiator is laundry convenience. The product is sold as a roll of 30 reusable sheets and includes a mesh bag for washing. That bag gives small cloths a defined place in the laundry and can help prevent them from disappearing among larger garments.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Seek describes the towels as machine washable, quick drying and made from bamboo fiber. The company says the sheets can be reused up to 100 times and are free of PFAS, chlorine, dyes and synthetic fragrances. Those are current manufacturer specifications; they should not be expanded into a claim that the product is automatically safer, antibacterial, compostable or environmentally superior.

As with Ecozoi, check the current fiber description if the distinction between bamboo fiber and bamboo-derived rayon matters to you. A wash bag is helpful, but it does not remove the need to rinse heavily soiled towels promptly and dry them fully before laundering.

Choose it if: you want a bamboo-roll format and value the included mesh wash bag.

Skip it if: you prefer cotton flannel, a paper-towel-holder tube or a small sponge cloth.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

7. Wettex or comparable Swedish dishcloths: best biodegradable sponge-cloth format

Swedish dishcloths are the most different option here. They are thin, flexible sponge cloths rather than fabric towels wound around a roll. Wettex describes its cloth as a cellulose-and-cotton product that can absorb up to 15 times its weight, clean without streaks and be composted because of its natural materials. SWEDEdishcloths describes a similar 70% wood-pulp and 30% cotton construction, dishwasher durability of up to 200 cycles and absorption of up to three-quarters of a cup per cloth.

These specifications vary by brand, so do not apply one company’s absorption, dishwasher or compostability claim to every Swedish dishcloth. Their practical advantage is that they dry quickly and work well on counters, dishes, glass and quick spills. They are less suitable when you want to dry a large load of dishes or imitate the tactile experience of tearing off a conventional paper-towel sheet.

Compostability also requires conditions. Follow the individual manufacturer’s disposal instructions and check what your local composting program accepts. Do not assume that cotton-flannel, bamboo-blend or synthetic-fiber towels can be composted simply because another cellulose-based sponge cloth can.

Choose it if: fast drying, compact storage and a natural cellulose-and-cotton format are more important than roll compatibility.

Skip it if: you want a thick towel, large coverage or a familiar paper-towel-holder workflow.

How to choose the right format

Choose by cleaning job

  • Small spills and frequent rinsing: Papaya or a Swedish sponge cloth.
  • Glass, stainless steel and countertops: Geometry or a Swedish dishcloth, provided the cloth is clean and free of grease.
  • Large counters and everyday towel work: Marley’s Monsters, Three Huggers or Ecozoi.
  • One-at-a-time dispensing: Marley’s Monsters or Three Huggers are the strongest matches because their roll formats are designed for existing holders.
  • A dedicated laundry solution: Seek’s included mesh wash bag is a practical advantage.

Balance sheet size against drying time

Larger towels reduce the number of pieces needed for a big mess, but they also occupy more drying and laundry space. Thin sponge cloths dry fastest; flannel rolls feel most like conventional towels; bamboo rolls emphasize thickness and coverage. A two-pack may be inexpensive and convenient to try, but it can create frequent washing if both sheets are used every day. A larger set makes rotation easier.

Do not treat environmental claims as interchangeable

Reusable does not automatically mean compostable, cheaper or lower-impact over its entire life. A fair comparison would need information about fiber production, washing energy, detergent, drying, product life and disposal. The available product claims do not establish that comparison. Manufacturer statements such as replacing 17 rolls, lasting 100 uses or being plastic-free should be read as product claims, not universal results.

Care and hygiene: the routine matters more than the label

Mess-specific warnings

Do not use reusable kitchen towels for raw-meat juices. The contamination risk is different from wiping a clean countertop, and laundering does not make careless cross-use a good practice. Grease and oil can leave residue and reduce absorbency. Paint or dye may permanently stain the fibers, while bleach and harsh chemicals can damage them.

For paint, solvents or other construction and household chemicals, use the cleanup materials and disposal method specified for that substance instead of putting a kitchen towel into a normal reusable rotation. A reusable towel is not automatically bacteria-proof or more sanitary than a disposable one; hygiene depends on what it touches, how soon it is washed and whether it dries fully.

What to do if a towel smells

An odor is a sign to stop using that towel until it has been washed and dried completely. Rinse it, keep it out of the damp collection pile if possible, wash it according to its care instructions and dry it in moving air. If the odor repeatedly returns, the towel is not drying fast enough for that location or cleaning frequency; switch to a faster-drying format, increase your rotation or replace the cloth.

When disposable paper towels are still the better choice

Reusable towels are not a requirement for every cleanup. Disposable paper towels remain sensible when a cloth has contacted raw-meat juices, heavy grease or oil, paint, dye or harsh chemicals. They can also be the practical choice when you cannot rinse, wash and dry a reusable towel promptly.

The goal is not to eliminate every disposable towel. It is to use washable cloths for compatible routine work—such as water spills, counters, dishes and light surface cleaning—while reserving disposable or task-specific cleanup materials for contamination, staining and chemical risks.

Frequently asked questions

How often should reusable paper towels be washed?

Wash them every few days even if they look clean, according to Shop TODAY’s cleaning guidance. Wash after each use when they handle kitchen messes or clean surfaces. Rinse visible dirt promptly and allow the towel to dry fully between uses.

Can reusable paper towels go in the washing machine?

Most of the products in this guide are marketed as machine washable, but follow the specific care label. Geometry recommends washing before first use and drying in a ventilated area. Marley’s Monsters recommends hot washing with like colors and tumble drying low. Seek includes a mesh bag for washing its smaller roll sheets.

Are bamboo reusable paper towels actually bamboo?

Not always in the same material sense. Good Housekeeping’s 2026 reporting notes that some products marketed as bamboo are rayon made by chemically processing bamboo pulp. Check whether the product says bamboo fiber, a bamboo blend or bamboo-derived rayon, and do not assume that all bamboo-labeled products have identical properties.

Can reusable paper towels be composted?

Only some products make that claim, and the conditions matter. Papaya and Wettex describe compostability for their cellulose-based products, but follow the manufacturer’s instructions and check local composting rules. Do not generalize compostability to cotton flannel, bamboo products or synthetic-fiber cloths.

Why do my reusable towels smell?

Damp storage is the most common practical warning sign. Rinse the towel, spread it out to dry in ventilated air and wash it rather than leaving it bunched beside the sink. If odor keeps returning, use a larger rotation or choose a faster-drying format such as a Swedish sponge cloth.

Will reusable towels fit a paper-towel holder?

Marley’s Monsters supplies an approximately 11-inch kraft tube designed for most paper-towel holders. Three Huggers says its 10-by-12-inch towels fit existing holders. Loose sheets and Swedish dishcloths generally do not provide the same roll-and-dispense experience, so check the product dimensions and holder width before ordering.

Editorial note: Product performance details above come from reported Shop TODAY testing and manufacturer specifications. The editorial test does not establish long-term durability, total cost savings or comparative environmental impact. Product prices, designs, availability and material descriptions can change.
