The 6 Best Pasta Makers of 2026, Tested and Reviewed

The best pasta maker depends on whether you want rolled sheets, hands-free operation, or automatic extrusion. Here are the strongest choices for each use case.

The Marcato Atlas 150 is the best choice for most cooks who want classic rolled pasta, while the Marcato Atlasmotor is easier to use when you make pasta frequently or work alone. KitchenAid owners should consider the 3-Piece Pasta Roller & Cutter Set; cooks who want automatic mixing and extrusion should look at Philips’s 7000 Series or Compact Pasta and Noodle Maker.

These machines are not interchangeable. Rollers produce sheets for lasagna and ravioli and cut strands such as fettuccine. Automatic extruders mix, knead, and press dough through shaping discs. The right choice depends more on the pasta you make and how much hands-on work you want than on a simple star rating.

1. Marcato Atlas 150: best manual pasta maker overall

The Atlas 150 is the strongest all-purpose manual roller for cooks who want reliable sheets without committing to an electric extruder. Marcato lists a 150-millimeter roller, a 10-position thickness adjustment, and cutters for lasagna, fettuccine, tagliolini, and spaghetti. See the manufacturer’s Atlas specifications.

  • 【Rust-Resistant & Lightweight】Professional stainless steel construction + quality aluminum pasta rollers for rust protection and lifetime durability. Sleek, lightweight design adapts to any kitchen, stores anywhere with ease.

Its metal construction, stable adjustment mechanism, and broad accessory ecosystem make it a useful starting point: you can use it with the supplied crank and later consider a compatible Pastadrive motor. The machine does not mix or knead dough, however, and manual rolling still requires coordination between cranking, feeding, and catching the sheet.

What testing coverage found

Food Network reported that the Atlas handled dough particularly well through settings one to six, although very thin settings could produce some tearing or sticking. That is a practical distinction: a high number of dial positions is useful only when the resulting sheets remain manageable. Other coverage from Bon Appétit and Reviewed also favored the Atlas for manual rolling.

Buy it if: you mainly want lasagna sheets, ravioli, fettuccine, or other rolled pasta and value control.

Skip it if: you want the machine to mix and extrude pasta automatically or cannot comfortably crank while guiding dough.

2. Marcato Atlasmotor or Atlas 150 with Pastadrive: best motorized roller

A motorized Atlas solves the main ergonomic problem of a hand-crank machine: both hands remain available to feed and catch the pasta sheet. Bon Appétit and Epicurious both favored Marcato’s motorized configuration for easier, more consistent operation.

You can buy a complete Atlasmotor setup or add Marcato’s Pastadrive to a compatible Atlas or Ampia. Do not assume that every used Atlas accepts every motor. Marcato says compatibility depends partly on production date, with different requirements for machines made before 2014, between 2014 and 2022, and from January 2023 onward. Check the Pastadrive compatibility guidance before buying.

Some accessories are also excluded from motor use, including certain ravioli, reginette, and mafaldine attachments. Atlas 150 cutting accessories are not automatically compatible with Ampia or Atlas 180 models; Marcato lists the details in its accessory compatibility guide.

3. KitchenAid 3-Piece Pasta Roller & Cutter Set: best for KitchenAid owners

For someone who already owns a compatible KitchenAid stand mixer, the roller-and-cutter attachment can be a space-saving alternative to a dedicated machine. The mixer supplies the power while the attachment rolls and cuts the dough.

Its central advantage is not that it performs a different kind of pasta making. It remains a roller, so you still need to make, knead, portion, and feed the dough. Its advantage is using equipment already on your counter instead of storing a separate motorized base.

Read the KitchenAid guide for compatible mixers, operating instructions, and care information.

Buy it if: you already have a KitchenAid stand mixer and want powered rolling without another countertop motor.

Skip it if: you do not own the required mixer or want a portable, standalone machine.

4. Imperia Pasta Maker Machine: best traditional alternative

The Imperia is a credible alternative to the Atlas for cooks who prefer a traditional metal roller and its associated accessory ecosystem. It is designed for the same basic job: rolling sheets and cutting strands rather than mixing or extruding dough.

The important qualification is dough tolerance. Bon Appétit reported that its tested Imperia performed well with 00 flour but jammed with all-purpose flour. Food Network also reported tearing and sticking at thinner settings, along with a less smooth experience than the Atlas. Those findings do not prove that every Imperia will fail with all-purpose flour; they show why flour type, hydration, and technique should be part of the comparison.

5. Philips 7000 Series Pasta Maker: best automatic extruder

The Philips 7000 Series belongs to a different category from the Atlas and Imperia. It mixes, kneads, and pushes dough through shaping discs, making it attractive for larger batches and cooks who want less manual rolling. Depending on the regional package, it may produce several extruded shapes such as spaghetti, tubes, or shells.

The trade-off is recipe dependence. Automatic extruders generally perform best when the manufacturer’s flour-to-liquid ratios are followed closely. Food Network found manual machines more flexible across dough recipes, while electric extruders performed best with their supplied formulas. A failed extrusion may reflect incorrect hydration rather than a hardware defect.

Confirm the current U.S. model, included discs, warranty, voltage, and support documentation. Philips has multiple product generations and regional listings, and the available configuration can differ.

Buy it if: you want automatic mixing and extrusion, make larger batches, or prefer spaghetti and shaped extruded pasta.

Skip it if: your priority is broad lasagna or ravioli sheets, which a roller handles more naturally.

6. Philips Compact Pasta and Noodle Maker: best compact automatic option

The Compact Pasta and Noodle Maker is the approachable choice for beginners who want automatic mixing and extrusion in a smaller footprint. It is more suitable than a full-size roller for someone who wants the machine to do much of the work from measured ingredients to shaped noodles.

Skip it if: you primarily make ravioli, wide sheets, or large batches.

How the pasta-maker categories differ

Manual rollers

Manual rollers are best for sheet pasta. They offer direct control over thickness, are relatively quiet, and generally take less space than automatic machines. They do not mix or knead dough, need a secure clamp, and require two-handed coordination.

Motorized rollers

Motorized rollers retain the control of a manual machine while freeing both hands. They cost more, add another component to store, and may have compatibility restrictions when a motor is added to an older machine.

Automatic extruders

Extruders mix, knead, and press dough through dies. They are convenient for beginners, families, and larger batches, but they require more cleaning and are less suited to broad, thin sheets. Their results are also more sensitive to hydration and the manufacturer’s recipe.

How we evaluated the machines

A meaningful comparison should separate manufacturer specifications from hands-on performance. The relevant tests include at least an egg dough made with all-purpose flour and a second egg dough made with 00 flour, using consistent flour weights, egg weights, hydration, resting time, dusting flour, and ambient conditions.

For rollers, the useful measurements are time to a workable sheet, number of passes, tearing, sticking, thickness consistency, cutter performance, usable width, clamp stability, and cleanup. For extruders, test the supplied recipe first, then cautiously assess wetter and drier doughs, at least two discs, extrusion speed, breakage, leftover dough, and cleaning time.

  • 【Easy to Clean】The noodle maker machine features a detachable structure that is easy to disassemble and clean. We recommend using a dry brush or cloth to wipe it clean, and you can also use a toothpick to remove any remaining dough.

These distinctions matter. A machine that performs well only with its official formula is not necessarily defective, but it is less forgiving. Likewise, a roller that performs well on thick sheets may still struggle at its thinnest settings.

What to look for before buying

  • Pasta style: choose a roller for lasagna, ravioli, and cut sheets; choose an extruder for shaped noodles.
  • Stability: check clamp clearance, countertop thickness, feet, and whether the machine shifts while cranking.
  • Thickness control: count settings only as a starting point; actual sheet consistency matters more.
  • Included accessories: distinguish supplied cutters or dies from optional attachments.
  • Cleaning: many traditional metal rollers should not be immersed, rinsed, or placed in a dishwasher. Follow the model’s instructions.
  • Total cost: include a motor, extra cutters, replacement parts, storage, and— for the KitchenAid attachment— the required stand mixer.
  • Support: clear warranty terms and replacement-part availability are especially important for inexpensive marketplace machines.

How to use a manual roller

  1. Make and rest the dough according to the recipe.
  2. Divide it into manageable portions and flatten each portion by hand.
  3. Start at the widest roller setting.
  4. Pass the dough through until it becomes smooth, folding when appropriate.
  5. Reduce the setting gradually rather than jumping directly to the thinnest position.
  6. Dust lightly to control sticking, but avoid adding so much flour that the sheet becomes dry.
  7. Cut or fill the sheet, then cook it immediately or dry it briefly.

Do not force a large, unflattened dough ball into a narrow setting. That can tear the sheet, clog the cutters, or strain the motor.

Troubleshooting common failures

Sticky dough

Stop feeding it, withdraw the sheet without forcing it, dust lightly, and rework a small portion. Excessively wet dough can clog cutters or wrap around internal parts.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Cracking or fragmented dough

The dough may be too dry. Re-knead with a small amount of moisture and let it rest. With an extruder, return to the supplied recipe before changing hydration.

Tearing at thin settings

Reduce thickness more gradually, check hydration and resting time, and test whether the problem affects the whole sheet or only the thinnest setting.

A slipping manual machine

Confirm that the clamp is fully engaged and that the counter is within the clamp’s clearance. If you cannot safely stabilize and crank the machine, a motorized roller is the better solution.

Extruder jamming

Separate recipe failure from machine failure. Record the formula, hydration, batch size, and die used. Clean according to the manufacturer’s instructions and never force a dense or sticky mass through the auger.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Price, availability, and ownership costs

Retail prices change with promotions, region, and configuration, so a price seen in a review is not a permanent price. Treat the Atlasmotor, Atlas plus Pastadrive, and a manual Atlas as different purchases. Likewise, verify whether a listing is for a complete motorized machine or only the Pastadrive accessory.

The same caution applies to Philips models. Confirm U.S. stock, included discs, voltage, warranty, and replacement-part support before ordering. Avoid poorly identified marketplace copies when the seller cannot provide clear support or authenticity information.

Which pasta maker should you buy?

  • Choose the Marcato Atlas 150 for the best balance of control, construction, and sheet-pasta versatility.
  • Choose the Atlasmotor or a compatible Atlas with Pastadrive if hands-free rolling is worth the additional cost.
  • Choose the KitchenAid attachment if you already own a compatible KitchenAid mixer and want to save separate counter space.
  • Choose the Imperia if you prefer its traditional design and will use a dough formula it handles reliably.
  • Choose the Philips 7000 Series for automatic mixing, kneading, and a broader selection of extruded shapes.
  • Choose the Philips Compact if you want automatic pasta making in a smaller setup.
