For most sealed tile floors, Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner is the best everyday choice. It is ready to use, pH-neutral, rinse-free, and designed to clean common sealed hard surfaces without leaving a noticeable residue. The other four picks make more sense for specific needs: Lysol for label-directed disinfection on suitable hard, nonporous surfaces, Quick Shine for a pleasant scent, Better Life for a plant-based positioning, and Zep for concentrated deep cleaning.
That recommendation applies primarily to sealed ceramic or porcelain tile and other manufacturer-approved hard surfaces—not automatically to marble, limestone, encaustic tile, unsealed grout, or damaged finishes. Always check the tile, grout, sealer, and cleaner labels before using a new product.

Our top tile floor cleaners at a glance
| Category | Pick | Best for | Important consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best overall | Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner | Routine cleaning of many sealed tile and mixed hard floors | Not a universal cleaner for every stone, grout, or finish |
| Best disinfecting cleaner | Lysol Multi-Surface Cleaner | Suitable hard, nonporous surfaces when disinfection is specifically needed | Surface, dilution, and contact-time instructions matter |
| Best scent | Quick Shine Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner | Shoppers who prefer a faint citrus scent | Fragrance preference is not evidence of better cleaning or pet safety |
| Best plant-based option for pet households | Better Life Floor Cleaner | Routine cleaning with a mild citrus-mint scent | “Pet-safe” is a shopping category, not a veterinary guarantee |
| Best for deep cleans | Zep Neutral pH Floor Cleaner Concentrate | Heavier cleaning when mixing concentrate is acceptable | Strong odor; ventilation and label-directed protection are important |
How BHG tested the cleaners
The five-product lineup is attributed to Better Homes & Gardens. The accessible reporting describing the test says BHG evaluated 19 tile-floor cleaners over 16 hours. Testers applied tomato paste, red crayon, dark soda, and dirt to tile and grout, left the stains for one hour, and used each product according to its label directions.
The evaluation reportedly considered more than stain removal. Performance, scent, ease of use, drying time, residue, and value were also assessed. That is a useful framework because a cleaner can remove a mark effectively yet still be unpleasant to use, slow to dry, streaky, or expensive for regular maintenance.
#1 Best Overall
- Easily refill any Bona floor cleaner spray bottle or mop cartridge
- Residue-free, fast drying solution that removes dust, dirt and grime leaving your floors clean and beautiful
- Splashless technology and a wide handle provide extra control for a smooth pour
- Protect your floor from discoloration and harm with our pH-neutral formulation; Safe for hard-surface floors like stone, no-wax sealed tile, laminate and luxury vinyl (LVT)
- Formulation contains 92% USDA certified biobased content; Meets the U.S. EPA product standards and is Safer Choice Certified
However, the test should not be interpreted as proof that one cleaner is best for every tile installation. A result on a typical ceramic or porcelain test surface does not automatically apply to marble, limestone, other acid-sensitive natural stone, encaustic tile, unsealed grout, grout with a failing sealer, or a damaged floor finish. The testing details here are reported as attributed BHG methodology; they were not independently witnessed for this article.
1. Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner: best overall
Choose it for: everyday dust, dirt, and grime on many sealed hard surfaces.
Why it stands out: Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner is a ready-to-use spray that Bona describes as rinse-free, streak-free, and pH-neutral. Its stated compatible surfaces include stone, no-wax sealed tile, laminate, and luxury vinyl. Bona also says it dries quickly without residue.
Those characteristics make it the most practical default in this group for a household that wants one low-fuss product for routine cleaning. You do not need to mix a concentrate, and the cleaner is positioned for normal soil rather than a specialized restoration job.
The important limitation is the word sealed. “Hard-surface cleaner” does not mean “safe for every floor.” Check the flooring manufacturer’s care instructions, especially before using it on unsealed tile, natural stone, unusual coatings, or grout that has not been properly sealed. It is also a routine cleaner, not a substitute for removing grout haze, mineral deposits, or deeply embedded contamination with a surface-specific process.
How to use it
- Remove loose grit with a vacuum, dust mop, or other non-abrasive method.
- Spray a manageable section according to the product label.
- Wipe with a clean floor mop or microfiber pad rather than spreading dirty solution across the floor.
- Allow the surface to dry and check for residue or streaking before cleaning the next section.
Best fit: sealed ceramic or porcelain tile and mixed hard flooring where the manufacturer permits a cleaner of this type.

2. Lysol Multi-Surface Cleaner: best for disinfecting
Choose it for: hard, nonporous surfaces where label-directed disinfection is an actual priority.
Rank #2
Lysol Multi-Surface Cleaner is a concentrate marketed as a multi-surface disinfectant. Lysol states that it kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria under the conditions on the label. That claim is narrower than saying it disinfects every type of tile, grout, or stone in every use.
In the BHG-attributed summary, Lysol performed well on the tested common stains but needed more effort on tomato paste and dark soda. Its concentrated format was considered a value advantage. For a household that wants a disinfecting product for appropriate nonporous surfaces, that trade-off can be worthwhile.
Cleaning is not the same as disinfecting
Routine cleaning removes soil. Disinfection is a separate label-regulated use that depends on the exact product, surface, dilution, and wet contact time. Do not wipe the product away immediately if the label requires the surface to remain visibly wet for a specified period. Do not assume a different Lysol fragrance, size, or SKU carries the same registered claim.
Use only on surfaces identified by the label. Do not generalize the product’s claim to porous natural stone or unsealed grout, and do not use it as a replacement for ordinary soil removal. If the floor is visibly dirty, clean it as directed first or follow the label’s precise combined-cleaning instructions.
Best fit: suitable hard, nonporous tile surfaces when the label’s directions match the job.
Not the best fit: everyday mopping when disinfection is unnecessary, or any surface whose manufacturer or product label excludes the cleaner.
3. Quick Shine Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner: best scent
Choose it for: a ready-to-use cleaner with a faint citrus scent and broad hard-floor positioning.
Quick Shine Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner is marketed for hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl, tile, and stone. The BHG-attributed reporting highlights its faint citrus scent, streak-free drying, and strong performance on difficult tested stains, including tomato paste.
Rank #3
- Residue-free, fast drying solution that removes dust, dirt and grime to reveal the floor's natural shine
- Quick and easy to use. Just spray, mop, and refill
- Refill with any economy-size Bona floor cleaner refill or Bona concentrate packet
- Protect your floor from discoloration and harm with our pH-neutral formulation. Safe for hard-surface floors like stone, no-wax sealed tile, laminate and luxury vinyl (LVT)
- Formulation contains 92% USDA certified biobased content. Meets the U.S. EPA product standards and is Safer Choice Certified
This is the sensible pick when the experience of cleaning matters almost as much as the result. A mild, pleasant scent may be preferable to a strong chemical odor, particularly during frequent maintenance. But scent remains a preference category. It does not prove that the cleaner removes more soil, is safer for children or pets, or is suitable for every surface.
Quick Shine identifies its multi-surface cleaner among its Safer Choice-certified floor-cleaning products. The EPA’s Safer Choice program evaluates ingredients and product-level criteria that include health, environmental, and performance considerations. That certification should not be rewritten as “non-toxic,” “chemical-free,” or harmless under misuse. Follow the label and keep wet cleaner away from children and animals.

4. Better Life Floor Cleaner: best for a plant-based positioning
Choose it for: routine floor cleaning if you prefer a plant-based product description and mild fragrance.
Better Life Floor Cleaner is described by the manufacturer as a plant-based multipurpose cleaner for wood, tile, laminate, vinyl, and bamboo. In the BHG-attributed test summary, it handled the tested stains effectively, dried without streaks or sticky residue, and had a mild citrus-mint scent.
It is often categorized as a pet-safe floor cleaner, but that phrase needs careful interpretation. It is a shopping and household-use positioning—not a veterinary guarantee that every ingredient is safe to ingest or appropriate for every animal. Prevent pets from licking wet product, keep the bottle out of reach, ventilate as appropriate, and wait for the floor to dry before allowing animals back onto it.
As with the other picks, plant-derived positioning does not override a floor manufacturer’s instructions. Confirm compatibility with the tile, grout, sealer, and finish, especially if the floor is natural stone or has a specialty coating.
Best fit: households seeking a mild-scented, plant-based-positioned cleaner for approved flooring.

Not the best fit: anyone looking for a disinfectant, a fragrance-free product, or an absolute guarantee of pet or ingestion safety.

Choose it for: larger or heavier cleaning jobs when you are comfortable mixing a concentrate and ventilating the area.
Zep Neutral pH Floor Cleaner Concentrate was the deep-clean category winner in the BHG-attributed summary. It reportedly removed the tested stains completely and offered concentrated value.
The trade-off is usability. The same reporting flags a strong chemical odor and the need for ventilation and protective gear during use. Use the current bottle’s dilution instructions; do not rely on an old online listing, a remembered ratio, or a different Zep product. The exact formulation, compatible surfaces, coverage, and precautions should be confirmed from the current packaging or official Zep documentation before use.
“Neutral pH” is helpful information, but it is not a universal-safety certificate. It does not automatically make the product right for every natural stone, grout sealer, painted surface, or specialty finish. Test an inconspicuous area if the manufacturer permits testing, and stop if you see whitening, dullness, discoloration, tackiness, or other changes.

Start with the floor, not the stain
Identify the tile material and the condition of the grout and sealer first. Ceramic and porcelain tile generally have different maintenance considerations from marble, limestone, slate, cement tile, terrazzo, and other natural or composite surfaces. Also determine whether the grout is sealed and whether the finish is worn or damaged.
Best Value

- Floor cleaning concentrate for LVP/LVT, laminate, tile: Quick-dry, streak-free multi-surface formula is waterbased, pH-neutral, and safe for hard-surface floors like marble, granite, and sealed stone; simply add to water in the included refillable cartridge

- Extra-large reusable mop pad: 18-inch dual-zone, non-slip microfiber cleaning pad traps dirt and absorbs wet and dry messes; covers more ground in less time and is machine washable up to 500 times; microfiber pad is made with 90% PCR material
- Wide pivoting mop head with flexible edges: 16.5 in x 4.5 in wide with soft, rubberized corners that bend and flex to prevent scuffs and scratches on furniture and baseboards, while the swivel head glides easily around tight turns and under cabinets
For example, Marazzi’s care guidance warns against acid cleaning for its porcelain or ceramic tiles, while LATICRETE distinguishes ordinary ceramic-and-porcelain care from grout-cleaning and restoration situations. Manufacturer instructions take priority over a general “best tile cleaner” list.

Match the product to the task
- Dust, tracked-in dirt, and routine grime: start with a manufacturer-approved pH-neutral cleaner such as Bona.
- Disinfection: use Lysol only when the label covers the exact hard, nonporous surface and you can follow its dilution and contact-time directions.
- A preferred scent: Quick Shine offers a faint citrus option, but fragrance should remain a preference rather than a safety claim.
- A plant-based shopping preference: Better Life is the relevant pick, with ordinary wet-floor and pet precautions.
- Heavy soil or larger areas: Zep may be the better category fit, provided the current label approves the surface and the room can be ventilated.
- Grout haze, mineral deposits, or restoration: stop looking for a general-purpose daily cleaner and use the tile or grout manufacturer’s instructions, or consult a qualified flooring professional.
The safest way to clean tile floors
- Read the labels. Check both the flooring manufacturer’s care instructions and the cleaner’s surface directions.
- Remove grit first. Sand and dirt can act as abrasives when dragged across the floor.
- Use the correct amount. More cleaner is not necessarily better and can increase residue or drying time.
- Keep the mop clean. Replace or rinse the pad as it becomes soiled so you are not redistributing dirty water.
- Use ventilation when directed. This is particularly important for concentrates or products with a strong odor.
- Allow the floor to dry. Keep children and pets off wet product, and do not let animals lick freshly cleaned surfaces.
- Inspect before repeating. If the tile becomes cloudy, sticky, dull, discolored, or otherwise changed, stop and consult the flooring manufacturer.
A clean, reusable microfiber mop or spray mop can make application easier, particularly with a ready-to-use product such as Bona. It is an accessory rather than a reason to choose one cleaner over another; the pad should be washed or replaced regularly so it does not spread soil.
What not to do
- Do not assume a product labeled for “tile” is suitable for every tile material or grout condition.
- Do not use acidic products on a floor whose manufacturer warns against acids.
- Do not treat “neutral pH” as proof of compatibility with every stone or finish.
- Do not mix cleaners, especially disinfectants with other household chemicals.
- Do not turn Safer Choice certification into a claim that a product is non-toxic or risk-free.
- Do not transfer a disinfecting claim from one product version, fragrance, dilution, or surface to another.
- Do not use a general floor cleaner to improvise a grout-haze or restoration treatment.
- Do not leave concentrated cleaner on the floor longer than the label directs.
Our verdict
Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner is the strongest all-around recommendation for routine cleaning of many sealed tile floors because it combines ready-to-use convenience with a pH-neutral, rinse-free formulation and broad hard-surface positioning. Choose Lysol when label-directed disinfection is the specific need, Quick Shine when scent is important, Better Life when a plant-based positioning is a priority, and Zep when a concentrated deep-cleaning product is appropriate.
The most important buying decision is still compatibility. Tile, grout, sealers, and finishes vary, so the correct product is the one approved for your particular floor and used exactly as directed—not necessarily the one with the most aggressive stain-removal claim.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best cleaner for tile floors?
For many sealed ceramic or porcelain tile floors, Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner is the best everyday choice in this lineup. Verify the tile, grout, sealer, and finish instructions first; it is not automatically suitable for every natural stone or unsealed surface.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCan I use disinfectant on tile and grout?
Only when the disinfectant label covers the specific hard, nonporous surface and you can follow its dilution and required wet contact time. A disinfectant claim should not be extended to porous stone or unsealed grout without label and manufacturer support.
Is a pH-neutral tile cleaner safe for natural stone?
Not automatically. Neutral pH is one compatibility factor, but natural stone type, sealer, finish, and manufacturer instructions also matter. Confirm that the exact product is approved for the exact stone.
Are these cleaners safe for pets?
Do not interpret any general pet-friendly or plant-based positioning as a veterinary guarantee. Keep pets away from wet cleaner, prevent licking, ventilate as appropriate, and allow the floor to dry before restoring access.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Pick Bona for everyday sealed tile, Lysol for label-directed disinfection on suitable nonporous surfaces, Quick Shine for scent, Better Life for a plant-based positioning, and Zep for concentrated deep cleaning. Before using any of them, confirm that the current label and your flooring manufacturer approve the combination.
