For most buyers, the Lasko FH500 is the best all-around space heater of 2026 because it combines ceramic heat with a tower fan, thermostat-oriented controls, a timer, and year-round usefulness. The right choice depends on what you value most: the compact Dreo Atom 316 is the better value, Dreo’s Whole-Room Heater 714 is the strongest quiet-circulation candidate, Dyson’s AM09 is the premium heat-and-cool option, and the Vornado MVH is worth considering only after confirming that you are buying the current 2025 variant rather than the discontinued original.

This is a comparison of portable electric space heaters for indoor residential use. It is not a claim that one model is safest or best for every room. Heating speed, heat distribution, controls, noise, portability, electrical use, surface temperature, stability, and current availability matter more than the wattage printed on the box alone.

#1 Best Overall
- 2 in 1 heater fan: This ceramic heater offers dual heating modes (1500W/750W) plus a cool air fan, making it ideal for both winter and summer. With automatic thermostat control, it cycles on and off to maintain your preset temperature without any manual adjustment. A practical and thoughtful gift for working from home, or for family, friends, and colleagues during the cold season.
- Multi-protection safety system: These heaters are made of V0 flame retardant material avoiding any fire hazard. Automatic safety shut-off system will shut the heater off when the heater overheat. The tip-over protection system will automatically shuts off with a loud beep if knocked over by accident and it will come back on automatically if it is up righted.
- Portable and Powerful: The mini heater with build in carry handle helps to reinforce the potential of rather low electrical bills by using at the place where you need when you don't want to warm the full house with other centralized heaters.
- Quiet and fast heating: The ceramic space heater is impressively quieter than most conversation levels, which is quiet enough for most people to use in a bedroom while sleeping or working. With PTC heating tech and high speed fan, it is rated to heat up to 200 square feet in seconds, which would cover most bedrooms, offices, bathrooms and smaller living rooms.
- Upgrade abs material: Upgrade abs material applied, which is more flame resident. The room heater with six feet lead cord and 2 prong connection has a long lasting life. The space heater for indoor use makes a noticeable difference and works well in small to medium rooms when positioned properly.

1. Lasko FH500: best overall
The Lasko FH500 is the most versatile recommendation in this group. It is a 1500W ceramic heater built into a tower-fan design, so it can provide heat in colder months and circulate air when you do not need heating. Tom’s Guide selected it as its top pick for most people in its 2026 space-heater roundup.
Lasko lists three heat settings, four fan speeds, an eight-hour timer, a remote control, and Auto-Eco temperature maintenance. The unit also has cool-touch housing, overheat protection, and an ETL listing according to the manufacturer. Those controls make it a practical choice for a bedroom, home office, living area, or other room where you want more than a basic on/off heater.
Choose it if: you want one appliance for winter heating and warm-weather air circulation, prefer a tower footprint, and value remote and timer controls.
Think twice if: automatic tip-over shutoff is a requirement for your household. Lasko’s official product information says the FH500 has no tip-over switch, so do not assume that its other safety features include tip-over detection. Keep it upright on a stable floor and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
For shoppers comparing listings, search for the exact Lasko FH500 model rather than assuming that every Lasko tower heater has the same controls or safety equipment.
2. Dreo Atom 316 DR-HSH006: best value
The compact Dreo Atom 316 DR-HSH006 is the value pick for buyers who want straightforward personal or small-room heat without paying for a larger appliance. Good Housekeeping named it its best-value heater and measured a 7°F increase in a medium room after 30 minutes at maximum power. That is a laboratory result from Good Housekeeping’s testing—not a guarantee for every room, temperature, or building.
Good Housekeeping also measured the heater at 47.9 dB from six inches. The outlet reports cool-touch housing, a timer, tip-over protection, and a fan that continues for 30 seconds after shutdown to help dissipate heat.

- Powerful heat that fits everywhere: DREO space heaters for indoor combines Hyperamics 1500W advanced PTC system with a new heat funnel design to deliver heat within seconds and enhance warm air circulation for up to 200% farther reach than traditional heaters.
- Unbreakable safety:DREO goes beyond the unexpected to deliver peace of mind with every room heater. The innovative tilt-detection sensor improves accuracy and reliability for better tip-over protection, and built with V0 flame retardant materials, overheat protection, and safety plug, all certified by ETL.
- Ultimate temperature control: The enhanced NTC chipset brings more precision to turn your space heater with thermostat into a smart heating powerhouse, allowing you to set heat on a wider range from 41-95℉ with 1℉ increments, saving you energy while keeping you comfortable.
- Cozy quietness: No more choosing between quiet or warmth, DREO's heater for bedroom warms quietly thanks to its brushless DC motor with frictionless performance and a winglet fan design that reduces turbulence, reducing noise to only 34dB.
- Fits into your lifestyle: This portable heater handle makes it easier to carry and is equipped with multiple heating levels and modes to heat as you like (Power heat, ECO, Fan Only). It also features handy extras for a hassle-free experience (remote control, 12-hour timer, mute, child lock, and memory function).
Choose it if: you need a compact heater for a desk, bedroom, office, or nearby personal comfort; you want a low-cost option; or portability matters more than maximum air circulation.
Think twice if: you need to distribute heat across a large or unusually drafty space. A compact heater can be useful for spot heating, but no portable 1500W heater should be treated as a guaranteed substitute for a building’s permanent heating system.
3. Dreo Whole-Room Heater 714: best current quiet whole-room candidate
The Dreo Whole-Room Heater 714 is the best fit here for readers who prioritize oscillation, adjustable temperature control, and quiet operation. Dreo lists a 1500W PTC heating system, 3D oscillation, an adjustable thermostat, six speeds, and eight-layer safety protection.
Dreo claims operation as quiet as 34 dB and lists stated coverage of 161 to 269 square feet. Treat both figures as manufacturer specifications, not independently verified test results. Actual sound and heating performance depend on the selected mode, room layout, insulation, outdoor temperature, furniture placement, and where you sit relative to the heater.
Choose it if: you want heat to move across more of a room instead of toward one fixed spot, and you prefer a wide range of fan and thermostat settings.
Think twice if: you need independently measured noise or room-coverage data before buying. Also remember that “whole-room” is a product description, not a promise that the unit will heat every room to the same temperature.
4. Dyson Hot+Cool AM09: best premium heater/fan combination
The Dyson Hot+Cool AM09 is aimed at buyers who want a polished, year-round appliance rather than the lowest-cost way to add heat. Dyson’s support materials document heating and cooling modes, thermostat control, oscillation, airflow control, a sleep timer, remote operation, and personal and diffused airflow modes.
Rank #3
- CUSTOMIZABLE HEATING OPTIONS: Choose from three settings to suit your needs - High (1500W), Low (900W), or Fan Only for air circulation without heat.
- COMPACT & PORTABLE: Weighing just 3 lbs and sized at 7.5“L x 6.3”W x 9.5“H, this space heater is easy to move and perfect for your Home, Office.
- Built-in Tip-Over Protection, Overheat Protection, and a Power Indicator Light for safe operation.
- RAPID HEATING TECHNOLOGY: Ceramic heating provides fast and efficient heat in minutes with only 43 dB noise level, keeping you warm quickly on cold days.
- NOT FOR HUMID ENVIRONMENTS: Please avoid using this heater in Bathrooms, Laundry Rooms, or other high-moisture areas.
Its strongest advantage is functional flexibility: it can serve as a heater in winter and a fan in warmer weather, with more airflow-control options than a basic ceramic heater. That can make sense when storage space is limited or when you prefer one appliance instead of separate seasonal devices.

Choose it if: design, year-round use, remote operation, and configurable airflow justify a premium purchase.
Think twice if: you are shopping primarily for inexpensive supplemental heat. The dossier does not establish a specific energy-saving advantage, room-size guarantee, or independently verified quietness claim for the AM09. Check current U.S. stock, the exact AM09 model generation, warranty terms, and seller before ordering.
5. Vornado MVH: best compact whole-room design, with a major availability caveat
Good Housekeeping selected the Vornado MVH as its best overall model and reported three heat settings, a relative thermostat, cool-touch operation, portability, automatic tip-over and overheat shutoff, and a five-year warranty.
Availability is the reason this model ranks fifth here rather than being presented as an uncomplicated winner. Vornado’s original MVH product page says that the original model is discontinued and unavailable for purchase, while Vornado’s current catalog and owner-guide index include an MVH 2025 variant. Those are not necessarily the same product.

Choose it if: you locate a clearly identified current MVH 2025 listing with a valid warranty and a reputable seller.
Think twice if: the listing says only “MVH,” appears refurbished, lacks a model number, or is selling the discontinued original. Confirm the label, packaging, seller, warranty, and return policy before paying. If no current listing is available, choose a current Vornado model rather than relying on an outdated product page.

How these heaters should be compared
Heating speed and distribution
A heater that warms the air near your legs quickly may be excellent for a desk but less effective at distributing heat through a room. Oscillation, fan speed, outlet position, room shape, drafts, insulation, and thermostat cycling all affect the result.
Tom’s Guide says its testing measures heating at multiple distances, room temperature after 20 minutes, electrical use at minimum and maximum settings, surface temperatures, floor temperature, noise, and safety features. Good Housekeeping reports testing heating, electrical usage, heat distribution, noise, portability, stability, tip-over protection, surface temperature, flammability, and safety sensors. Those methods are more informative than comparing wattage alone.

Most of the models in this comparison are 1500W-class heaters. That does not make them inherently energy efficient. A rough operating-cost calculation is:
cost = kilowatts × hours of operation × electricity price per kilowatt-hour
A 1500W heater uses 1.5 kilowatts while running at full output. Your actual cost depends on your electricity rate, runtime, thermostat cycling, selected setting, room conditions, and whether the heater runs continuously. A thermostat or eco mode may reduce runtime, but it does not change the basic electrical cost whenever the heating element is operating at full power.
Noise
Use measured numbers only when the testing source provides them. Good Housekeeping measured the Dreo Atom 316 at 47.9 dB from six inches. Dreo’s 34 dB figure for the Heater 714 is a manufacturer claim. The other models should not be assigned a precise noise level here without comparable independent testing.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Controls and convenience
Remote controls and timers are useful when the heater remains in one room. Thermostats and eco modes can reduce unnecessary runtime, but they do not remove the need for supervision. Oscillation helps spread airflow; it does not guarantee uniform room temperature. If you move a heater often, prioritize a stable carrying handle and a cord that can be inspected easily.

Safety and certification
Look for recognized certification marks such as UL, ETL, or CSA, along with automatic overheat protection and tip-over shutoff where available. These features reduce certain risks but do not make a portable heater risk-free. The Lasko FH500, for example, should not be described as having tip-over shutoff because Lasko’s product page says it has no tip-over switch.
Portable space-heater safety: the rules that matter
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s February 12, 2026 guidance emphasizes the three-foot rule: keep a portable heater at least three feet from combustible materials. CPSC reports that portable heaters were involved in an average of about 1,600 fires, 70 deaths, and 160 injuries annually during 2019–2021.
- Place the heater on a stable, level floor surface where it cannot be knocked over.
- Keep it at least three feet from curtains, bedding, clothing, paper, furniture, children, and pets.
- Plug it directly into a wall outlet. Do not use an extension cord or power strip.
- Inspect the plug and cord before each use. Stop using the heater if either is damaged, hot, frayed, or loose.
- Turn it off when leaving the room and do not run it while sleeping.
- Never cover the heater or use it to dry clothing.
- Keep the air intake and outlet unobstructed.
- Follow the model’s instruction manual, especially for clearance, thermostat operation, cleaning, and storage.
Which one should you buy?
- Choose the Lasko FH500 if you want the most broadly useful heater/fan combination and can place it securely without relying on a tip-over switch.
- Choose the Dreo Atom 316 if price, compact size, and nearby personal heat are your priorities.
- Choose the Dreo Heater 714 if adjustable airflow and manufacturer-rated quiet operation are more important than independently measured noise data.
- Choose the Dyson AM09 if you want a premium appliance that handles both heating and cooling.
- Choose the Vornado MVH only after verifying that the listing is the current 2025 variant and includes a valid warranty.
What to verify before ordering
- Match the exact model number in the listing to the manufacturer’s current product information.
- Check whether the item is new, refurbished, used, or discontinued.
- Confirm the seller, return policy, warranty, current price, and stock on publication or purchase day.
- Check whether the product has the safety features you specifically require, especially tip-over shutoff.
- Plan a direct wall-outlet location with at least three feet of clearance before bringing the heater home.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best space heater overall in 2026?
For most buyers, the Lasko FH500 is the best overall space heater of 2026 because it combines 1500W ceramic heat with a tower fan, multiple heat and fan settings, a remote, an eight-hour timer, and Auto-Eco temperature maintenance. It does not have a tip-over switch, according to Lasko, so stable placement is essential.
Which 2026 space heater is the best value?
The Dreo Atom 316 DR-HSH006 is the best value pick in this comparison. Good Housekeeping measured a 7°F temperature increase in a medium room after 30 minutes at maximum power and measured 47.9 dB from six inches. Results vary by room and conditions.
Does a 1500W space heater save energy?
No. A 1500W electric heater uses 1.5 kilowatts while operating at full output. Cost depends on runtime, electricity rates, thermostat cycling, the selected setting, and room conditions. Eco modes may reduce runtime but do not make the heating element intrinsically efficient.
How can I use a portable space heater safely?
Keep it on a stable floor, at least three feet from combustible materials, and plugged directly into a wall outlet. Do not use a power strip or extension cord, cover the heater, dry clothing on it, leave it running unattended, or operate it while sleeping.
Is the Vornado MVH still available?
The original Vornado MVH is marked discontinued and unavailable on Vornado’s original product page, while Vornado’s current catalog includes an MVH 2025 variant. Confirm the exact model number, seller, warranty, and condition before buying.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Lasko FH500 is the strongest all-purpose choice, while the Dreo Atom 316 offers the clearest value. Pick the Dreo Heater 714 for adjustable, broad circulation; the Dyson AM09 for premium year-round heating and cooling; and the Vornado MVH only when you have confirmed that the listing is the current 2025 variant. Whatever you buy, direct-wall-outlet use, stable placement, three feet of clearance, and turning the heater off when unattended matter more than small differences in features.
