Vivint is a good fit when you want a professionally installed, professionally monitored security system with smart-home controls in one app. It is not the best fit for the lowest monthly cost, easy self-monitoring, or fully reusable DIY hardware. This 2026 review examines the service model, cameras, pricing, contracts, financing, and the questions to ask before signing.
Verdict: Vivint is worth considering if convenience matters more than price
Vivint is a managed home-security service, not simply a box of smart-home gadgets. It combines professional system design and installation, 24/7 professional monitoring, a central Smart Hub, sensors, cameras, app control, and optional automation devices.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
That makes Vivint home security a reasonable choice for a homeowner who wants someone else to install and manage the system, values monitored response, and wants security and automation in one app. It is a weaker fit if your priorities are the lowest monthly bill, self-monitoring, portable hardware, or a genuinely no-commitment purchase.
This is a researched 2026 review, not a claim of personal installation or hands-on testing. Vivint’s exact price, equipment package, financing terms, and cancellation exposure depend on the quote and agreement you receive.

What Vivint includes
A typical Vivint setup can include:
- the Vivint Smart Hub;
- door and window sensors;
- motion sensors and environmental sensors;
- indoor, outdoor, and doorbell cameras;
- smart locks;
- lighting and thermostat controls; and
- professional monitoring and app-based alerts.
The Smart Hub and Vivint app are intended to bring these functions together. Vivint support documentation describes control of supported Z-Wave lights, locks, and thermostats, along with two-way talk through compatible cameras. That does not mean every Z-Wave or third-party device will work: compatibility can depend on the exact model, hub, software, account, and installation configuration.
Vivint cameras: more than basic motion alerts
Vivint’s official camera lineup includes the Outdoor Camera Pro, Doorbell Camera Pro, Indoor Camera, and Spotlight Pro. Depending on the model and service plan, the camera proposition includes live and recorded video, night vision, two-way talk, app notifications, package protection, and Smart Deter features designed to discourage unwanted activity.
The Doorbell Camera Pro is positioned around package-theft detection and deterrence. The Outdoor Camera Pro uses light and sound deterrence. These features may be useful for a homeowner who wants a visible response to activity rather than a camera that only records an event after it happens.
Vivint announced the Outdoor Camera Pro Gen 3 for availability beginning in February 2026, with a stated price of $399.99. Vivint’s announcement describes radar and AI-based behavior detection, cloud and on-device storage, 24/7 recording, a 4K sensor with 5.3x HD zoom, and a hybrid wired/Wi-Fi network. Those are manufacturer-stated specifications, not independent test results, so they should not be treated as proof of real-world image quality or detection accuracy.
Vivint pricing in 2026: the starting number is not the installed-system price
Vivint’s official installation material advertises 24/7 professional monitoring starting at $24.99 per month on select plans. It also indicates that some plans do not require a long-term contract. That “starting at” figure should not be read as the likely total bill for a system with multiple sensors, cameras, installation, financing, and video services.
Independent 2026 reviews provide different snapshots: SafeWise reports a $24.99 monthly starting point in one configuration involving a three-year contract, while NerdWallet describes monitoring starting at roughly $30 without cameras and roughly $40 with cameras or smart-home equipment. These figures are review-date estimates, not guaranteed quotes. Offers, equipment, taxes, financing, and service selections can change the total.

- One Unified Security System, Powered by 1st-Gen aosuBase: 32GB of local storage comes ready to use, holding about 120 days of loop recording. No subscription required. Connect up to 4 cameras to one base with a stable wireless connection and centralized local storage. Recordings saved to aosuBase are event-based, triggered by detected activity.
- Multi-Cam Live View for All-at-Once Monitoring: Watch up to four live camera feeds simultaneously in the aosu app and monitor multiple areas on one screen without opening each camera individually. Live View is available through the aosu app only; the base does not support HDMI or TV output.
- 360° Coverage with Pan, Tilt, and Smart Auto Tracking: Pan and tilt to see all around your property. When activity is detected, the camera automatically follows people and other movement to keep the action in view while recording, giving you a more complete view of what happens around your home.
- 2K (3MP) Clarity with Full-Color Night Vision: Capture clear details in 2K and zoom in up to 6x for a closer look. Built-in spotlights enable full-color night vision, helping you see important color details like clothing and vehicles after dark. For more discreet monitoring, switch to infrared mode for black-and-white night vision without visible lighting.
- Quick Setup with a Pre-Paired System: Connect aosuBase to your router's LAN port with the included Ethernet cable. Cameras connect wirelessly to aosuBase instead of your home Wi-Fi. The system comes pre-paired, so simply power on the cameras and complete setup in the app without pairing each camera one by one. The cameras are designed to work with the included aosuBase, and add-on cameras connect through the base as well.
| Cost or term | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Equipment | The price of every sensor, hub, camera, lock, and automation device, and whether each item is purchased or financed. |
| Financing | APR, financing term, monthly payment, total financed amount, and credit-approval requirements. |
| Monitoring | The recurring monitoring and service charges, including what features each plan includes. |
| Video services | Any camera storage, recording, or video-subscription charge. |
| Installation | Installation, activation, service-call, or other one-time charges. |
| Taxes and fees | Recurring taxes and any other charges not included in the advertised starting price. |
| Commitment | The monitoring term, financing term, and exact early-cancellation calculation. |
| After cancellation | What happens to equipment, app access, recordings, remote control, and monitoring if service ends. |
The key comparison is the total cost over the period you expect to live in the home, not just the introductory monitoring rate.
Contracts, financing, and cancellation
Vivint’s public materials distinguish between buying equipment upfront and financing it. In certain offers, purchasing the equipment upfront can support month-to-month service. Financing or discounted equipment can instead be paired with a longer monitoring or payment commitment. The agreement presented at checkout or installation controls; a salesperson’s verbal description does not replace it.
Financing is subject to credit approval and may run for up to 60 months depending on the offer. A financing agreement and a monitoring agreement are not necessarily the same obligation, so read both documents carefully.
Do not assume there is one universal Vivint cancellation fee. The amount and process depend on the remaining term, agreement, promotion, financing arrangement, and possibly the applicable jurisdiction. Vivint support material says cancellation procedures vary. Its educational material also warns that early-termination charges in some monitoring contracts can be tied to the remaining balance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBefore installation, save copies of:
- the complete service agreement;
- the equipment invoice;
- the financing document, if applicable;
- the promotional offer; and
- any written statement about cancellation, transfers, equipment ownership, or post-cancellation functionality.
If you sell the home, do not assume the account transfers automatically. Vivint’s account-transfer policy says financed equipment may need to be paid off before an account takeover, and the incoming account holder may need to sign a new agreement for the remaining monitoring months.
What happens to Vivint equipment without service?
Vivint’s Doorbell Camera Pro terms warn that functionality is limited without a Vivint services plan, including loss of remote connectivity. That is an important distinction from many standalone cameras that continue to offer a defined local or app-based feature set after a subscription ends.
Ask specifically which functions remain available after cancellation. The answer may differ among the Smart Hub, cameras, sensors, locks, recordings, and automation devices. Do not assume Vivint equipment can be broadly reused with another provider or converted into an ordinary DIY system.

Where Vivint is strongest
Professional setup
Vivint’s main convenience advantage is that the system is designed and installed for you. You do not have to decide where every sensor belongs, pair each device, or troubleshoot the initial setup alone. That service is particularly valuable for homeowners who want coverage planned around the property rather than assembled device by device.
Recommended Free Tools
One managed security and automation experience
Vivint connects security, cameras, locks, lights, thermostats, and supported automation in one hub-and-app experience. A homeowner who wants security events to interact with the rest of the house may prefer this integrated approach to maintaining several unrelated apps.
Professional monitoring
The service is built around 24/7 professional monitoring rather than only sounding a local alarm or sending an alert to your phone. That is the central reason to consider Vivint over a self-monitored camera-and-sensor setup, although buyers should confirm exactly what response and monitoring features are included in their selected plan.
Deterrence-oriented cameras
Vivint’s camera lineup emphasizes deterrence as well as recording. Package-protection features, two-way communication, lights, sounds, and Smart Deter functions may help discourage activity at the property. The usefulness of those features will depend on placement, lighting, network reliability, settings, and the specific model.
Where Vivint is weaker
The complete price can be difficult to compare
A low monitoring starting price does not describe a complete installed configuration. Cameras, additional sensors, installation, equipment financing, recording, taxes, and service choices can materially raise the bill. A DIY system may cost less upfront, but it will not provide the same installation and managed-service model.
The system is dependent on Vivint’s service ecosystem
Remote connectivity and other camera functions can be limited without a Vivint services plan. That makes the service relationship more consequential than it is with a fully standalone camera. Consider this a trade-off: integration and support in exchange for less independence.
Long-term obligations require careful reading
Financing, promotions, and monitoring commitments can make a system harder to leave than a one-time DIY purchase. There is no responsible way to quote one cancellation amount for every Vivint customer. Read the actual agreement and calculate the maximum plausible cost before signing.

It is not designed for maximum DIY flexibility
Vivint makes sense when you want a managed system. It is less attractive if you prefer to install equipment yourself, choose any third-party device, self-monitor without a service plan, or move the hardware freely between homes and providers.
Get sales claims in writing
A 2026 BBB National Programs DSSRC inquiry involving Vivint advertising is a reason to treat promotional claims carefully and rely on written terms. It is not evidence that every current sales interaction is improper, but it reinforces a practical rule: ask for the complete quote, contract, financing details, and promotion in writing before authorizing work.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Who should buy Vivint?
Vivint is most defensible for a homeowner who:
- wants professional installation rather than a DIY setup;
- values 24/7 professional monitoring;
- wants cameras, sensors, locks, and supported automation in one app;
- is comfortable paying for an ongoing managed service; and
- expects to stay in the property long enough to make the installation and commitment worthwhile.
For that buyer, Vivint’s premium is paying for convenience, integration, and professional support—not bargain hardware.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should skip Vivint or compare alternatives first?
Compare a DIY or self-monitored system first if you want:
- the lowest possible monthly cost;
- no financing or long monitoring commitment;
- the ability to install and configure everything yourself;
- hardware that remains broadly useful after cancellation;
- complete freedom to mix brands and third-party devices; or
- a simple standalone camera or doorbell rather than a whole-home security service.
A standalone security camera, video doorbell, smart lock, or self-monitored security system may be a better fit for those goals, but compare storage fees, installation, emergency response, compatibility, and post-cancellation features rather than treating those products as equivalent to Vivint’s managed service.
Questions to ask before signing
- What is the total installed price, including every device and one-time charge?
- Am I buying the equipment or financing it?
- What are the APR, term, monthly payment, and total financed amount?
- How long is the monitoring commitment?
- What is the exact early-cancellation calculation for this agreement?
- What camera recording and storage features are included, and what costs extra?
- Which features continue if I cancel monitoring?
- Can I move the system to another home, and what must be paid before a transfer?
- Which specific locks, lights, thermostats, or other devices are confirmed compatible with this installation?
- Can I receive every promotion and sales promise in the written contract or quote?
Final assessment
Vivint’s value proposition is convenience, integration, and professional support—not low-cost hardware. The service can justify its premium for a homeowner who wants an installed, monitored security system that also controls parts of the smart home. The same managed ecosystem can feel expensive and restrictive to a technically independent or price-sensitive buyer.
The honest 2026 recommendation is conditional: consider Vivint when professional installation and monitoring are your priorities, but compare the complete written cost, financing documents, monitoring term, cancellation calculation, and post-cancellation functionality before signing.

How much does Vivint cost in 2026?
Vivint advertises professional monitoring starting at $24.99 per month on select plans, but that is not necessarily the total installed-system price. Equipment, cameras, installation, financing, recording services, taxes, and other fees can raise the bill.
Does Vivint require a contract?
Not always. Vivint’s public materials distinguish between upfront equipment purchases and financing. Some upfront-purchase offers support month-to-month service, while financing or promotional pricing may involve a longer commitment. The written agreement controls.

Can Vivint cameras work without Vivint service?
Vivint’s terms say camera functionality can be limited without a Vivint services plan, including remote connectivity for the Doorbell Camera Pro. Ask which features remain available after cancellation for each device in your quote.
What happens if I cancel Vivint?
There is no single cancellation fee for every customer. The process and amount depend on the remaining monitoring term, financing, promotion, agreement, and possibly jurisdiction. Save the signed documents and request the calculation in writing.
The Bottom Line
