The Victorinox Slotted Fish Turner Wood is a separately selected alternative, not a fifth product tested under Food Network’s protocol.

How the tested picks were evaluated

Food Network Kitchen says it measured and researched each utensil, recording materials, cleaning instructions, applicable warranty information, and initial ergonomic impressions. Its testers cooked two fish filets and two burgers in a cast-iron pan, then flipped pancakes in a nonstick pan. They assessed maneuvering in tight spaces, support under the food, possible damage to nonstick surfaces, and residue remaining after hand-cleaning between tests. These are Food Network’s tests and observations; this article does not present independent testing.

The best fish spatulas

Misen Fish Spatula: best overall

Food Network’s overall winner combines a compact shape with a flexible stainless-steel head and silicone-coated edge. In its fish-specific review, Food Network said the turner maneuvered easily in tight spaces and flipped fish filets, thick burgers, and pancakes effectively. The silicone edge is intended to be suitable for nonstick pans, and Food Network lists the tool as dishwasher-safe.

#1 Best Overall
OXO Good Grips Slotted Fish Spatula Stainless Steel, Fish Turner
  • Great for lifting, turning and transferring whole fish, filets, seafood cakes and more
  • Sturdy, oversized, stainless steel head
  • Beveled edge helps slide beneath foods
  • Slots in head allow grease to drain

There is one qualification: in Food Network’s broader spatula review updated June 15, 2026, the same utensil remained its best fish spatula, but the reviewer noted that the silicone edge slightly caught on salmon skin. That makes Misen a versatile choice rather than a guarantee of perfectly friction-free release on every filet.

OXO Good Grips Stainless Steel Fish Turner: best large option

OXO uses a large, slotted stainless-steel head with a beveled edge and a rubberized handle. Food Network found that its size could lift a whole branzino or several burger patties, while the angled, flexible head still worked between foods. Pick it when supporting a broad or heavy item matters more than having the smallest tool for a crowded pan.

Rank #2
Winco Fish Stainless Steel Commercial Spatula
  • Stainless steel - Ensures durability for long-term use
  • Slotted design - Allows efficient drainage during cooking
  • Wooden handle - Provides comfortable and ergonomic grip
  • Dishwasher safe - Enables easy and quick cleaning
  • Satin finish - Offers a classic look with smooth texture

Because the head is stainless steel, use appropriate care on coated cookware and follow your pan manufacturer’s guidance. The cited review does not state a cleaning specification or warranty for this model.

GreenPan Silicone Fish Turner: best for nonstick pans

Food Network describes the GreenPan as silicone-coated across the working surface, making it the gentlest choice in this group for nonstick cookware. Its beveled, flexible head is designed to slide under fish, while the construction resists bowing when lifting heavier burgers.

Rank #3
Fish Spatula Turner, Stainless Steel Slotted Spatulas Set, 3"x6"+4"x8"
  • [2-Size Set] The stainless steel fish spatula set includes 2 slotted spatulas with different sizes, meet your different uses
  • [Thin Curved Slotted Blade with Beveled Edge] The blade of our fish spatula is made of premuim stainless steel. Precision ground ,curved design and beveled edge make it easy to slide under food.
  • [ Flexible But Strong Blade ] This stainless steel egg turner perfectly balances flexibility and strength, performs well even in your small carbon steel or cast iron skillets, packaged in an elegant box.
  • [Comfortable Full Tang Handle] The wood handle of our frying spatulas is full tanged, will not snap easily like others, meticulously polished providing comfortable grip.
  • [Easy to Clean] With simple design, this slotted fish turner is quite easy to clean by hand.

This is the most straightforward recommendation if protecting a coated skillet is your first concern. Silicone can feel less crisp than bare metal at the edge, but the trade-off is reduced risk of scratching the cooking surface.

WÜSTHOF Gourmet 6.5-inch Offset Slotted Spatula: best splurge

Food Network praised the WÜSTHOF’s wide drainage slots, curved end, and precise maneuverability. The all-stainless construction suits stainless steel, cast iron, and carbon-steel cookware, but Food Network specifically cautions against using it on nonstick pans. It includes a limited lifetime warranty according to the review.

Rank #4
OXO Good Grips Little Fish Turner
  • Ideal for lifting, turning and transferring whole fish filets and more
  • Beveled edge slides beneath food
  • Slots in head allow grease to drain
  • Sturdy, stainless steel construction
  • Soft, comfortable, non-slip handle

At roughly $65 in the cited publication pricing, it costs substantially more than the other tested picks. That premium is easiest to justify if you value rigid stainless construction, broad drainage slots, and long-term warranty coverage.

Victorinox Slotted Fish Turner Wood: an additional wood-handle option

A Guardian writer identifies the Victorinox Slotted Fish Turner Wood as a personal favorite and describes its stainless-steel construction and wood handle. That makes it a reasonable alternative for cooks who prefer the feel and appearance of wood.

Which fish spatula fits your cookware?

For nonstick cookware

Choose the GreenPan’s silicone-coated head, or consider the Misen’s silicone-coated edge. Avoid the all-stainless WÜSTHOF on nonstick surfaces; reserve it for stainless steel, cast iron, or carbon steel.

For stainless steel, cast iron, or carbon steel

Metal edges can provide a firm, thin approach under food on uncoated pans. The WÜSTHOF is the premium option, while OXO offers a larger lifting area for whole fish or several portions.

For mixed cookware

Misen is the most adaptable of the tested choices because Food Network evaluated it on both cast iron and nonstick cookware and describes its silicone edge as suitable for nonstick pans. If your priority is maximum protection for coated pans, GreenPan’s fully silicone-coated design is the safer dedicated tool.

What to look for before buying

  • Head size: A compact head is easier to steer around a crowded skillet; a wide head supports large filets, whole fish, or multiple patties.
  • Flexibility and bevel: A flexible, beveled edge can slide beneath delicate food without forcing it. Too much flex can make heavy items feel unstable.
  • Slots: Open slots let oil drain as you lift and reduce the amount of liquid carried to the plate.
  • Surface material: Silicone is the safer default for nonstick coatings; stainless steel is better reserved for uncoated pans unless the cookware maker says otherwise.
  • Handle: Rubberized or coated grips can feel secure around heat and grease, while wood handles offer a different tactile preference but may require more careful washing.
  • Cleaning and warranty: Confirm dishwasher guidance and warranty terms for the exact model and seller. Among the cited picks, Food Network specifies dishwasher safety for Misen and a limited lifetime warranty for WÜSTHOF.

Are fish spatulas useful for more than fish?

Yes. Food Network’s test used the turners for fish, burgers, and pancakes, and its takeaway is that the category is not limited to seafood. The thin, slotted profile is also useful for eggs and other fragile foods. A Guardian writer describes using a fish turner for brownies and bar cookies, where a broad flexible edge can help lift pieces from a pan.
