There is no single best BISSELL vacuum for every home. Choose the BISSELL PowerForce Helix for the most balanced carpet-cleaning performance, the Featherweight Stick for inexpensive quick cleanups, the Zing Bagged Canister for bare floors and cleaner disposal, or the CrossWave Cordless Max for sealed hard floors and wet spills.
These are different kinds of machines—not interchangeable rivals. The CrossWave is a vacuum-mop hybrid, while the other three are dry vacuums. Your floor type, tolerance for maintenance, and need for portability matter more than the word “best” on a product list.
Quick comparison
| Pick | Best for | Type | Main strength | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PowerForce Helix | Carpet and general cleaning | Corded upright | Height-adjustable powered floorhead | Plasticky build; no brushroll shutoff |
| Featherweight Stick | Cheapest quick-clean option | Corded stick/upright | Extremely light and compact | Poor carpet cleaning |
| Zing Bagged Canister | Bare floors and cleaner disposal | Bagged canister | Maneuverability and contained emptying | Short cord; replacement bags required |
| CrossWave Cordless Max | Wet hard-floor messes | Cordless vacuum-mop | Vacuums and washes floors | More maintenance; weak carpet performance |
The category recommendations and specifications below are based primarily on RTINGS’ BISSELL roundup, updated April 22, 2026. RTINGS says it has tested 11 BISSELL vacuums among more than 105 vacuums overall. This article does not claim independent hands-on testing.
Is BISSELL a good vacuum brand in 2026?
BISSELL is a sensible brand for shoppers who want a low purchase price, broad model variety, or a machine designed around pet hair and hard-floor messes. It is not uniformly excellent. Across its lineup, affordability can come with compromises in plastic quality, filtration, floorhead design, specialized tools, or long-term refinement.
#1 Best Overall
- EVERY PURCHASE SAVES PETS. BISSELL proudly supports the BISSELL Pet Foundation and its mission to help save homeless pets.
- POWERFUL SUCTION WITH SCATTER-FREE TECH. Engineered to capture messes on hard floors with less scatter and powerful suction on carpets. Enjoy a convenient, highperformance clean in one machine.
- COMPACT & LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN. Weighing less than 8 pounds, this vacuum is easy to carry and store. Perfect for dorms, apartments, and small living spaces without sacrificing cleaning power.
- REMOVABLE EXTENSION WAND. Features a quick-release wand to easily clean abovefloor surfaces like curtains, upholstery, and baseboards. Tackle dirt and debris in tight spaces with ease.
- EASY EMPTY DIRT CONTAINER. The bagless design allows for quick and mess-free emptying with the push of a button. Keep your hands clean and your home debris-free.
Many BISSELL models are bagless, which avoids recurring bag purchases but usually makes disposal dustier and more hands-on. The company also sells fundamentally different products under similar family names, so brand reputation is a poor substitute for comparing the exact model.
RTINGS’ broader assessment is that BISSELL vacuums are generally budget-friendly and inexpensive to maintain, but often have plasticky construction, mediocre bare-floor pickup, and limited specialized tools. That makes BISSELL competitive when value and convenience are the priorities, but less compelling for buyers seeking premium construction, advanced filtration, or the strongest all-surface performance.
1. BISSELL PowerForce Helix: best overall BISSELL for carpet
Best for: Homes with substantial carpeting and shoppers who want a conventional upright at a budget-conscious price.
The PowerForce Helix is the most defensible “best overall” choice among the tested BISSELL models because it offers the most useful balance for general carpet cleaning. That does not mean it is the best vacuum at any price—or the right choice for every floor.

Key specifications
- Upright, corded, bagless design
- Dirt capacity: 0.40 gallon / 1.50 liters
- Weight: 10.36 pounds / 4.70 kilograms
- Five floorhead height-adjustment levels
- Washable pre-motor filter
- Reported RTINGS bare-floor pickup score: 6.1
Why it stands out
Its powered brushroll and height adjustment give it a meaningful advantage over straight-suction machines on carpet. RTINGS reports good large- and medium-debris pickup on carpet, although fine debris embedded in carpet is a weaker point.
The height settings are useful when moving between carpet types. A floorhead set too low can become difficult to push on plush carpet, while a head set too high may lose cleaning effectiveness. Still, the fixed-angle head and bulky upright body make it less maneuverable under furniture and around tight obstacles.
Important compromises
- No brushroll shutoff: The rotating brush can scatter debris or be a poor fit for some delicate bare floors and rugs.
- Mediocre build quality: RTINGS identifies concerns around the floorhead wheels, brushroll plate, and dustbin.
- Dusty emptying: Removing the bagless dustbin can release a cloud of collected pollutants.
- Awkward brushroll service: Hair removal and brushroll access can be inconvenient because the brush guard must be removed.
- Limited maneuverability: Its fixed head and bulky form are less comfortable in crowded rooms.
Buy it if: Carpet is your priority and you value cleaning capability more than premium materials or easy handling.
Skip it if: Your home is mostly hardwood or tile, you have delicate rugs, or you want a sealed, low-dust emptying system. A canister with a hard-floor tool or an upright with brushroll control would be a better fit.

Best for: Small apartments, dorms, kitchens, stairs, crumbs, and quick daily pickups.
The Featherweight Stick earns its place by being exceptionally light and compact, not by delivering full-size vacuum power. It is a convenient spot-cleaning tool and a poor substitute for a serious carpet vacuum.
Rank #2
- EVERY PURCHASE SAVES PETS. BISSELL proudly supports the BISSELL Pet Foundation and its mission to help save homeless pets. When you buy a BISSELL product, you help find a home for a pet in need.
- FULL-SIZE POWER IN A COMPACT DESIGN. Experience the powerful suction of a full-size vacuum in a compact, lightweight machine weighing less than 10 lbs. Ideal for apartments and dorms.
- QUICK RELEASE EXTENSION WAND. The integrated quick-release wand allows you to easily transition from floor cleaning to vacuuming upholstery, curtains, and high corners.
- MULTI-SURFACE CLEANING. Features scatterfree technology to capture messes on hard floors and powerful suction for carpets. A versatile solution for whole-home cleaning.
- EASY-EMPTY DIRT TANK. The bagless design makes maintenance simple. Dispose of dirt and debris with a single button press, keeping your hands clean.
Key specifications
- Corded, bagless stick/upright-style design
- Dirt capacity: 0.12 gallon / 0.45 liter
- Weight: 3.00 pounds / 1.36 kilograms
- Straight-suction floorhead without a powered brushroll
- Reported RTINGS bare-floor pickup score: 6.4
- Limited accessories, primarily a crevice tool
What it does well
At three pounds, the Featherweight is easy to grab for crumbs, tracked-in dirt, stairs, and small kitchen messes. Its straight-suction head is appropriate for many bare-floor touchups, and it can handle lighter household debris and some pet hair adequately.
Where it falls short
The motor struggles with heavy debris, and carpet-cleaning performance is poor. The short power cord is inconvenient in larger rooms, while the predominantly hollow-feeling plastic construction reinforces that this is a basic utility vacuum rather than a durable whole-home machine.
Buy it if: You need an inexpensive secondary vacuum for quick cleanup or live in a small space with mostly bare floors.
Do not buy it as your only vacuum if: Your home has substantial carpeting, embedded pet hair, heavy debris, or multiple large rooms.
If you only need to clean tiny messes, RTINGS also points to the BISSELL AeroSlim/TurboSlim as a more compact handheld alternative. That is a different category, so it should not be treated as a replacement for the Featherweight’s limited floor-cleaning reach.
3. BISSELL Zing Bagged Canister: best BISSELL canister
Best for: Bare floors, low-pile carpet, mobility-conscious users, and people who prefer a compact canister with contained disposal.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The Zing Bagged is the strongest fit here for shoppers who value maneuverability and a cleaner emptying process. Its bagged design keeps collected debris contained, but its straight-suction floorhead limits its usefulness on thick carpeting.
Key specifications and test results
- Bagged canister design
- Dirt capacity: 0.74 gallon / 2.80 liters
- Weight: 9.92 pounds / 4.50 kilograms
- Reported RTINGS scores: 7.3 bare floor, 7.5 low-pile carpet, and 7.3 high-pile carpet
- Straight-suction floorhead
- Button-operated cord rewind
The compact body and lightweight construction make the Zing relatively easy to pull around rooms, and its bag and filter access are simple. Bagged disposal is generally more hygienic than dumping a bagless bin because you have less direct contact with dust and debris.
Those benefits come with recurring bag costs and the possibility of running out of bags. The power cord is short, so larger homes may require frequent outlet changes. Despite its respectable reported test scores, this is not a premium canister or a powered-carpet specialist. Straight suction is a poor match for thick, dense carpet or heavily embedded debris.
Rank #3
- EVERY PURCHASE SAVES PETS. BISSELL proudly supports the BISSELL Pet Foundation and its mission to help save homeless pets. When you buy a BISSELL product, you help find a home for a pet in need.
- SWIVEL STEERING & MANEUVERABILITY. Maximize control with swivel steering that makes it easy to navigate around furniture and obstacles, providing a smoother cleaning experience.
- SCATTER-FREE TECHNOLOGY. Confidently clean hard floors with scatter-free technology that captures messes instead of pushing them around. Includes specialized pet tools for upholstery.
- TRIPLE ACTION BRUSH ROLL. Engineered to loosen, lift, and remove embedded pet hair and dirt. The specialized bristles work effectively across multiple surface types.
- EDGE-TO-EDGE CLEANING POWER. Tackle dirt and debris along baseboards and corners with edge-to-edge suction capabilities, ensuring no mess is left behind in hard-toreach spots.
RTINGS identifies the bagless Zing as a comparable alternative. It can reduce recurring bag costs, but filtration and dust disposal are inferior to the bagged version.
Recommended Free Tools
Buy it if: You mainly clean bare floors or low-pile carpet and prefer a compact machine that is easier to empty cleanly.
Skip it if: You have thick carpeting, dislike buying consumables, or want a powered brushroll for embedded debris.
4. BISSELL CrossWave Cordless Max: best BISSELL for wet hard-floor cleaning
Best for: Sealed hard floors, households with dry debris and liquid spills, and users who specifically want vacuuming plus floor washing.
The CrossWave Cordless Max should be considered the best BISSELL vacuum-mop—not the best conventional cordless vacuum. It vacuums debris, dispenses cleaning solution, and scrubs hard floors, making it a specialist for kitchens, entryways, and other sealed-floor areas.
Key specifications and test results
- Cordless, bagless upright-style vacuum-mop hybrid
- Dirt capacity: 0.13 gallon / 0.50 liter
- Weight: 11.57 pounds / 5.25 kilograms
- Reported RTINGS scores: 6.6 bare floor, 5.5 low-pile carpet, and 5.3 high-pile carpet
- Approximately 40 minutes of battery life according to RTINGS
- Detergent dispensing for wet hard-floor cleaning
It can handle both dry and wet messes on hard floors, eliminating the need to sweep before mopping every spill. Its cordless design also avoids outlet changes during a cleaning session.
Why it is not a universal vacuum
The fluffy brushroll provides less carpet agitation than the powered brushroll in a conventional upright, so it cannot match the PowerForce Helix for deep carpet cleaning. The brushroll speed cannot be adjusted or stopped, and loose rug tassels or similar obstructions can jam the floorhead.
It also carries the highest maintenance burden of the four picks. After use, expect to clean the dirt compartment, brushroll, filter, and water tank, then allow washable parts to dry fully before reuse. Neglecting those steps can contribute to odors and performance problems.
Buy it if: You have mostly sealed hard floors and regularly deal with food spills, muddy paw prints, or other wet messes.

How to choose the right BISSELL
Match the vacuum to your floors
- Mostly carpet: Choose a powered upright with height adjustment. Among these picks, that means the PowerForce Helix.
- Mostly bare floors: Choose the Zing Bagged for conventional dry vacuuming, or the CrossWave if washing and spill cleanup are important.
- Mixed floors: Look for brushroll control, height adjustment, or a floorhead designed for both surfaces. The PowerForce Helix’s lack of brushroll shutoff is a meaningful limitation.
- Tile and grout: Prioritize pickup without scattering, edge cleaning, and the ability to lift debris from grooves. A wet/dry model may help with kitchen spills, but it adds cleaning work. See RTINGS’ tile-floor guidance for the relevant considerations.
Consider carpet depth
Straight-suction machines such as the Featherweight and Zing are not ideal for thick carpet. Height adjustment can improve pushability and contact, but do not assume that a higher advertised wattage or amp rating guarantees better real-world carpet pickup.
Choose bagged or bagless deliberately
Bagged models offer cleaner disposal, better containment during emptying, and less direct contact with collected debris. They require replacement bags and should be evaluated using the exact model number.
Bagless models avoid recurring bag purchases and often have washable filters and visible dustbins. However, emptying can release dust, and filters and bins need more hands-on cleaning. A washable filter is not automatically the same as HEPA filtration or a sealed allergen system.

Corded vacuums avoid charging limits and battery aging, but require outlet changes. Cordless models are easier to deploy but must be recharged, and their runtime varies by mode and condition. The CrossWave’s approximately 40-minute figure is useful context, not a guarantee for every home or cleaning setting.
Budget for maintenance
Before buying, check the cost and availability of replacement bags, filters, belts, brushrolls, cleaning formulas, and batteries. Confirm compatibility by exact model number: BISSELL’s similar names and trims can use different parts.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.BISSELL model names: what the labels mean
BISSELL uses labels that describe a configuration rather than guaranteeing identical features across the entire family:
- Swivel: Usually indicates a pivoting floorhead.
- Rewind: Automatic cord retraction.
- Lift-Off: A detachable canister or body configuration.
- Turbo: Often indicates a powered floorhead.
- XRT: A higher-capacity cordless battery designation.
- Slim: A lighter or more compact version of an existing design.
Similarly named trims may differ in tools, brushroll design, filtration, battery, and included accessories. Verify the exact model number before comparing prices or ordering replacement parts.
BISSELL versus Shark, Eureka, Dyson, and Miele
Shark is generally the more attractive choice for shoppers willing to spend more on sturdier construction and stronger all-around performance, although some models can be harder to service around the brushroll.
Best Value
- POWERFUL SUCTION. Dirt, fur & dust don’t stand a chance against the Pet Hair Eraser Allergen Lift-Off vacuum’s suction power.
- LIFT-OFF DETACHABLE POD. Conveniently clean anywhere in your home, even hard-to-reach areas, with the lightweight canister and quick-release extension wand.
- HEPA SEALED ALLERGEN SYSTEM. This vacuum captures dust allergens inside the vacuum so they don’t escape back into the air you breathe.
- TANGLE-FREE BRUSH ROLL. Cut the hassle, not the hair. This vacuum is designed to handle hair and fur.
- SCATTER-FREE TECHNOLOGY. Vacuuming hard floors shouldn't be a headache. Strong suction and scatter-free technology makes cleaning a breeze.
Eureka occupies a similar budget position and can be a credible alternative, particularly when large-debris pickup is the priority. Dyson typically costs substantially more but generally targets stronger performance and build quality. Miele is a higher-end bagged alternative for shoppers who value construction and filtration more than the lowest upfront cost.
For many households, the most sensible alternative to a CrossWave is a separate dry vacuum plus a mop. That combination can provide better deep carpet cleaning and occasional wet cleaning, though it requires storing two tools.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which BISSELL vacuum is best for carpet?
Among the four models covered here, the PowerForce Helix is the most sensible carpet-focused choice because it has a powered brushroll and five height settings. It still has mediocre build quality, no brushroll shutoff, and weaker fine-particle carpet pickup than its larger-debris performance.
Is the BISSELL CrossWave Cordless Max a replacement for a vacuum?
It can replace some vacuuming and mopping on sealed hard floors, but it is not a universal replacement. Its carpet performance is weaker than a conventional powered upright, and it requires regular tank, brushroll, filter, and dirt-compartment cleaning.
Is the BISSELL Featherweight good for a whole house?
Usually not. It is excellent for quick, lightweight cleanup but has poor carpet performance, a short cord, limited attachments, and a weak motor for heavy debris. Treat it as a secondary or small-space vacuum.
Is a bagged BISSELL better for allergies?
A bagged design generally contains dust better during disposal, but do not assume a specific BISSELL model has HEPA or sealed filtration without verifying its current documentation. Bagged versus bagless is only one part of an allergy-focused purchase.
What should I buy instead of a CrossWave?
If you mainly need dry vacuuming or deep carpet cleaning, choose a conventional upright, canister, or cordless stick instead. If wet cleaning is occasional, a separate dry vacuum and mop may offer better overall capability with less maintenance after each use.
The Bottom Line
Choose by cleaning job: PowerForce Helix for carpet, Featherweight for quick inexpensive pickups, Zing Bagged for bare floors and cleaner disposal, and CrossWave Cordless Max for sealed hard-floor wet messes. None is the universal winner, and the CrossWave should not be selected merely because it is cordless.
