Short answer: For routine cleaning across compatible grill surfaces, CitruSafe BBQ Grill Cleaner is the strongest all-purpose choice. For removable grates covered in severe, baked-on buildup, choose Carbona Oven Rack & Grill Cleaner if you can wait overnight, or Easy-Off BBQ Cleaner for a faster, more hands-on deep clean. For a stainless-steel exterior, use Therapy Stainless Steel Cleaner rather than a grate degreaser.

The safest choice depends on what your grill is made of. Stainless steel, porcelain enamel, cast iron, aluminum, painted steel, plastic, and faux-stainless finishes do not all tolerate the same chemicals or abrasives. Read your grill manual and the cleaner label before applying anything—especially to the lid, painted panels, burner area, or aluminum parts.

How these 13 grill cleaners were evaluated

This is a research-based comparison, not a new hands-on test by this publication. Bob Vila’s grill-cleaner testing evaluated seven named products in real post-cooking grill and smoker situations, considering cleaning performance, time, odor, protective equipment, rinsing, grill temperature, versatility, and value. Good Housekeeping reports laboratory testing of more than two dozen grill cleaners, while a separate Good Housekeeping report covered eight formulas, including Dawn Powerwash, Goo Gone, distilled white vinegar, and Carbona. Good Housekeeping’s grill-cleaner coverage and the related Yahoo report provide additional comparison points.

The rankings below combine those reported results with manufacturer directions and surface-compatibility cautions. The products were not all tested in the same laboratory or under identical conditions, so a product labeled “best” for grates is not automatically the best choice for a painted lid or stainless-steel cabinet.

Best grill cleaners of 2026 at a glance

Product Best for Application and dwell time Surface guidance Main limitation
CitruSafe BBQ Grill Cleaner Routine all-purpose cleaning Cool-surface spray; soaking and scrubbing may be needed Moderate grease on compatible grates and exterior surfaces May need extra work on carbonized residue
Easy-Off BBQ Cleaner Budget heavy-duty grate cleaning Spray on removed, cool grates; ventilate and rinse carefully Use conservatively on removable grates only unless the current label says otherwise Strong odor and greater PPE and surface-risk concerns
Therapy Stainless Steel Cleaner Kit Stainless-steel exteriors Spray-and-wipe polish with supplied microfiber cloth Compatible stainless-steel exterior surfaces Not a heavy-duty degreaser and not for grates
Weber Grill Grate Cleaner Manufacturer-branded grate care Cool-grill application; follow the current label Use on compatible grate materials Less effective on the most stubborn burned-on residue
Parker & Bailey BBQ Grill Cleaner & Degreaser Broad grease coverage Spray, allow product time to work, scrub, rinse, and dry Grates, interiors, exteriors, drip pans, baskets, and tools when label-approved Can streak shiny metal; may irritate eyes
Kona Safe/Clean Grill Cleaner Low-odor, natural-style cleaning Water-based spray; about 20 minutes for baked-on food Multiple cooking surfaces and accessories when permitted Longer dwell time and continued scrubbing
Goo Gone Grill & Grate Cleaner Fast-acting foam Foam on a cool grill, work in, then rinse before food contact Metal grates, racks, drip pans, and compatible grill surfaces Do not use on aluminum or faux stainless steel
Carbona Oven Rack & Grill Cleaner Severe buildup on removable grates Cold grates in supplied bag; use the full 16.8-ounce bottle and wait eight hours Removable racks and grates that fit safely in the bag Overnight process; thorough rinsing is essential
Rock Doctor Master Grill & Grate Cleaner Heavy-duty foam cleaning Foam-activated application on cool grates Strong reported performance on cold porcelain and stainless-steel grates Not for aluminum or painted surfaces
Dawn Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray Readily available light-duty cleaning Short spray-and-scrub routine on a cool surface Use only where the grill manual and dish-spray label permit Not designed for severe carbon buildup
Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner General-purpose alternative Spray, scrub, and rinse food-contact surfaces thoroughly Cooking surfaces only where the current label approves the use Not equivalent to a dedicated grill cleaner
Zep Heavy-Duty Oven & Grill Cleaner Category-level heavy-duty alternative Follow the current package directions exactly Do not assume compatibility with any particular grill material Current U.S. grill-surface directions were not sufficiently verified
Distilled white vinegar Low-cost maintenance and light residue Apply only where permitted, then wipe and rinse Surface-specific; acidic cleaners can be unsuitable for some finishes Too mild for heavy grease and carbon

The best choices by cleaning job

Best overall for routine cleaning: CitruSafe BBQ Grill Cleaner

CitruSafe BBQ Grill Cleaner is the most balanced choice for ordinary grease, cooking residue, and maintenance on compatible grill surfaces. Bob Vila’s testing identified it as the overall pick. Its citrus-derived D-limonene degreaser gives it more cleaning power than a household wipe-down product without the especially harsh odor associated with some heavy-duty formulas.

#1 Best Overall
Goo Gone Grill and Grate Cleaner Spray - Cleans & Degreases BBQ Cooking Grates, Racks, Pelle, Electric Smokers, 24 Oz
  • Grill Cleaner - Super-strength gel cleans your grill and is safe on food-prep surfaces
  • Grease Remover - Quickly cleans and removes grease from your grill and grates
  • Biodegradable - Super-strength gel is biodegradable and reduces smoke/flare-ups
  • Works On - Caked-on food, baked-on deposits, carbon and grease, do not use on aluminum or faux stainless steel
  • Safe For Use - On metals, cooking grates/racks, drip pans, grill interiors/exteriors

The manufacturer describes the formula as nonflammable, noncorrosive, nontoxic, biodegradable, and phosphate-free, and directs users to apply it to a cool grill. Those are product-specific claims, not a guarantee that it is safe for every part of every grill. Check the manual before using it on painted steel, porcelain enamel, plastic trim, or specialty finishes.

CitruSafe is best when you can give the cleaner time to work. Moderate grease may release after a short dwell and scrub, but baked-on residue can require soaking, repeated applications, and mechanical help. It is therefore a better routine cleaner than a one-step solution for years of carbon buildup.

Best budget heavy-duty grate cleaner: Easy-Off BBQ Cleaner

Easy-Off BBQ Cleaner is the pick for a low-cost, aggressive clean of removable grates. Bob Vila reported strong performance against grease and baked-on residue, making it useful when a mild spray is no longer enough.

The important restriction is where it is used. The reported testing limited it to grates that had been removed from the grill, rather than the grill interior or exterior, because the formula can damage some surfaces. Do not treat Easy-Off BBQ Cleaner as permission to spray ordinary oven cleaner throughout the grill, and do not assume the BBQ version is suitable for painted panels, porcelain enamel, aluminum, plastic, burner components, or every grate coating.

Plan for ventilation, chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, and careful rinsing. Its odor is notably stronger than that of the low-odor options. It is a practical deep-cleaning choice when price matters, but the extra precautions and surface limitations make it less convenient than CitruSafe for routine maintenance.

Best for a stainless-steel exterior: Therapy Stainless Steel Cleaner Kit

Therapy Stainless Steel Cleaner Kit is a specialized exterior product, not a grill-grate degreaser. Bob Vila describes it as plant-based, lavender-scented, streak-free, and supplied with a microfiber cloth. Its purpose is to improve the appearance of a compatible stainless-steel lid or cabinet after grease and fingerprints have been removed.

Use it for the visible exterior—not for grates, cooking surfaces, or heavy carbon buildup. Stainless steel can have a brushed grain, polished finish, protective coating, or a faux-stainless appearance, so test an inconspicuous spot and wipe with the grain. If the surface is actually painted steel or plastic with a metallic finish, a stainless-steel polish may be inappropriate.

For Weber owners, Weber Exterior Grill Cleaner is the manufacturer-branded alternative for compatible Weber painted-steel, stainless-steel, and porcelain-enamel exterior surfaces. Follow the product label and your model’s manual rather than choosing solely by the word “stainless” in a product name.

Best manufacturer-branded grate option: Weber Grill Grate Cleaner

Weber Grill Grate Cleaner is a sensible choice for owners who prefer a product made for the brand’s grill-care lineup. Bob Vila describes it as nonflammable, noncorrosive, nontoxic, odorless, and intended for use on a cold grill. Weber currently lists a 16-ounce grate cleaner in its U.S. cleaning lineup, although package size and availability can change.

Its main weakness is very stubborn burned-on residue. It is better suited to regular grate maintenance than to a neglected grate with thick carbon deposits. Remove loose debris first, use it only on surfaces allowed by the current label, rinse food-contact areas thoroughly, and let the parts dry before cooking.

Rank #2
Citrusafe BBQ Grill Grate Cleaner, 23 FL OZ
  • Citrusafe BBQ Grill Grate Cleaner, 23 FL OZ

A manufacturer-branded cleaner is not automatically compatible with every surface on a Weber grill. Weber’s owner guidance says to cool the grill before cleaning and warns against oven cleaner, acidic or citrus cleaners, mineral spirits, xylene, and abrasive pads on painted, enameled, and plastic exterior surfaces. Weber’s cleaning guidance should take priority over a general product roundup.

Best for broad grease coverage: Parker & Bailey BBQ Grill Cleaner & Degreaser

Parker & Bailey is the most versatile degreaser in this comparison when the label permits use on the specific part. Bob Vila reported using it on grates, interiors, exteriors, drip pans, baskets, and tools, with strong grease-cutting performance and no oily residue after cleaning.

That broad coverage is useful during a seasonal teardown: one product can address the grates, drip tray, utensil basket, and selected interior or exterior areas. The tradeoff is finish management. The cleaner may streak shiny metal unless it is rinsed and dried completely, and the product can irritate the eyes. Wear eye protection when spraying overhead or inside a confined grill cavity, and consult the product’s current label and safety documentation before expanding use beyond the grates.

Best low-odor natural-style option: Kona Safe/Clean Grill Cleaner

Kona Safe/Clean Grill Cleaner is a good fit for people who want a water-based, nearly odorless formula. Bob Vila describes it as biodegradable, nonflammable, noncorrosive, and phosphate-free, with use across multiple cooking surfaces and accessories when permitted.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is not the fastest choice for baked-on food. Bob Vila’s reported results indicate that heavily deposited food may need about 20 minutes of dwell time followed by substantial scrubbing. That makes Kona a comfortable maintenance cleaner when odor matters more than speed, but a less efficient option for a grill that has accumulated thick carbon.

“Natural-style” does not mean universal compatibility. Verify the material of the grate and surrounding panels, keep the grill cool, and rinse food-contact surfaces according to the label.

Best fast-acting foam: Goo Gone Grill & Grate Cleaner

Goo Gone Grill & Grate Cleaner combines quick application with strong reported cleaning performance. Both Bob Vila and Good Housekeeping identified it as an effective option, and the product directions cover caked-on food, carbon, baked-on deposits, and grease on compatible metals, grates, racks, drip pans, and grill interiors or exteriors.

The application is straightforward: use it on a cool grill, allow the foam to work, scrub, and rinse before food contact. The surface exclusions are critical: do not use it on aluminum or faux stainless steel. A product that performs well on a stainless-steel grate may still be unsuitable for an aluminum drip pan or a plastic panel made to look like stainless steel.

Goo Gone is a strong middle ground between a mild routine spray and an overnight soaking system. It is particularly useful when the grate is dirty enough to need a dedicated cleaner but not so neglected that a bag soak is worthwhile.

Best overnight soak: Carbona Oven Rack & Grill Cleaner

Carbona Oven Rack & Grill Cleaner is the best choice when removable grates have severe buildup and you can wait overnight. Good Housekeeping named it the best overall product in its 2026 testing. Its supplied bag turns the cleaning job into a controlled soak rather than repeated spraying and scrubbing.

Rank #3
Weber® Outdoor Grill Spray Cleaner & Degreaser, 16 oz, Grill Cleaner | Safe, Non‑Corrosive, Effective Formula for Stainless-Steel & Cast‑Iron Grates, Smokers, Ovens & Microwaves - Grill Accessory
  • This 16 oz spray bottle of Weber Grill Grate Cleaner was engineered for use on cooking grate surfaces, including stainless steel and porcelain-enameled, cast-iron grates
  • Gentle on Your Grates: Grill cleaner spray is non-flammable, non-corrosive, and free of phosphates, so you don't have to worry; Safe for use on your cooking grate surfaces
  • Doesn't Irritate Skin: Cleaner and degreaser also features a formula specifically designed to be safe for your skin; Won't cause unwanted irritation with exposure
  • Effective Cleaning Power: There's no reason to let messes stick around; BBQ grill cleaner removes grease and grime, breaking up tough reside to get your outdoor grill clean
  • Protect Your Grill: Selecting the right grill cleaning products is the smart way to extend the lifetime of your appliance and keep it looking great and grilling delicious food for many years to come

The current directions described in the research require cold racks or grates to be placed in the supplied bag, the full 16.8-ounce bottle to be used, and an eight-hour dwell time. Keep the bag away from children and pets. After soaking, rinse the grates thoroughly before they return to the grill or come into contact with food.

Carbona is not a quick post-cook cleanup product. It is also limited by the size and shape of the bag, and it should be reserved for removable components that the product label allows. Do not use the bag method on a fixed grill interior, burner assembly, painted lid, or any part that cannot be rinsed completely.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best heavy-duty foam: Rock Doctor Master Grill & Grate Cleaner

Rock Doctor Master Grill & Grate Cleaner is a heavy-duty foam for caked-on food, grease, and baked-on deposits. The manufacturer describes it as food-surface safe and foam-activated, while Good Housekeeping identifies it as a heavy-duty pick with strong prior performance on cold porcelain and stainless-steel grates.

The restrictions matter more than the broad category name: Rock Doctor says it is not for aluminum or painted surfaces. Keep it on compatible grates and follow the label’s rinse instructions. “Food-surface safe” should not be interpreted as “leave it on the grate”; food-contact surfaces still need to be cleaned and rinsed as directed before cooking.

Choose Rock Doctor when foam cling and heavy-duty performance are more important than the mildest possible formula. Choose Carbona instead when an overnight soak is acceptable and the removable grates fit the supplied bag.

Best readily available light-duty substitute: Dawn Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray

Dawn Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray is a convenient option for routine grease and light-to-moderate residue, especially when a dedicated grill cleaner is not available. Food Network and the Yahoo/Good Housekeeping comparison include it among grill-cleaning options.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is still a dish spray, not a purpose-built carbon remover. Use it on a cool surface, scrub promptly, and rinse food-contact parts thoroughly. Check both the grill manual and the current product label before applying it to painted, enameled, anodized, or specialty finishes. It works best as part of frequent maintenance, not as the main solution for a grate with thick, blackened deposits.

Best general-purpose alternative: Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner

Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner is another practical alternative when the label specifically permits use on the cooking surface. Food Network includes it among grill-cleaning recommendations and describes it as an eco-friendly, non-toxic cooking-surface spray.

Do not treat those general descriptions as a substitute for surface instructions. Simple Green is not equivalent to a dedicated grate cleaner, and the exact product formulation and label directions matter. Spray only compatible areas, avoid uncontrolled overspray into burners or electrical parts, and rinse food-contact surfaces thoroughly before cooking.

Heavy-duty alternative with a label-verification warning: Zep Heavy-Duty Oven & Grill Cleaner

Zep Heavy-Duty Oven & Grill Cleaner appears in current grill-cleaner roundups as a heavy-duty alternative. However, the available research did not establish a sufficiently current official U.S. product page with complete directions for specific grill surfaces.

Rank #4
Goo Gone Grill and Grate Cleaner Spray (2 Pack) Cleans and Degreases BBQ Cooking Grates and Racks, Pellet and Electric Smokers- 24 Ounce
  • GRILL & SMOKER CLEANER : Super-strength gel cleans your grill and is safe on food-prep surfaces. Works great for cleaning pellet smokers and electric smokers
  • GREASE REMOVER: Quickly cleans and removes grease from your grill and grates
  • BIODEGRADABLE: Super-strength gel is biodegradable and reduces smoke/flare-ups
  • WORKS ON: Caked-on food, baked-on deposits, carbon and grease, do not use on aluminum or faux stainless steel
  • SAFE FOR USE ON: On metals, cooking grates/racks, drip pans, Weber, Traeger, Kamado, Saber and Char Broil grill interiors/exteriors

That means it should not receive a blanket recommendation for stainless steel, porcelain enamel, aluminum, painted panels, or grates. If you already own it, read the current package label and safety sheet, confirm that your exact surface is listed, and follow the required ventilation, PPE, dwell, and rinsing instructions. Until those details are verified, Carbona, Goo Gone, Easy-Off BBQ Cleaner, or Rock Doctor provide clearer use cases.

Best low-cost household option: distilled white vinegar

Distilled white vinegar is useful for light residue and maintenance when the grill manufacturer permits an acidic cleaner. Food Network and the Yahoo/Good Housekeeping report include vinegar among household approaches, but it is not a replacement for a dedicated heavy-duty degreaser.

Vinegar is especially unsuitable as a universal exterior recommendation. Weber specifically warns against acidic and citrus cleaners on certain painted, enameled, and plastic exterior surfaces. Do not assume that because vinegar is inexpensive and familiar it is safe for every lid, cabinet, coating, or grate. Use only where the manual allows it, and rinse food-contact surfaces afterward.

How to choose the right grill cleaner

1. Identify the surface before choosing the chemical

Separate the grill into zones:

  • Cooking grates: May be stainless steel, porcelain-coated steel, cast iron, or another finish. Choose a product whose label covers that material.
  • Exterior panels: May be stainless steel, painted steel, porcelain enamel, or plastic. A grate degreaser may stain, dull, or damage them.
  • Drip pans and grease trays: Often use a different metal or coating from the grates. Check for aluminum before using a product with an aluminum exclusion.
  • Burners, ignition parts, and electrical components: Avoid flooding these areas. Follow the grill manufacturer’s cleaning procedure.

Weber’s owner guidance is a useful example of why generic advice can fail: it recommends a cool grill but warns against oven cleaner, acidic or citrus cleaners, mineral spirits, xylene, and abrasive pads on painted, enameled, and plastic exterior surfaces. Your own model manual controls if it is more restrictive.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Match the cleaner to the amount of buildup

  • Light grease after regular cooking: Dawn Powerwash, Simple Green where label-approved, or distilled white vinegar where the manual permits it may be enough.
  • Moderate grease and ordinary maintenance: CitruSafe, Kona, Goo Gone, Parker & Bailey, or Weber Grill Grate Cleaner are more suitable dedicated options.
  • Thick, baked-on residue: Carbona, Easy-Off BBQ Cleaner, or Rock Doctor are the stronger choices, with different tradeoffs in dwell time, odor, PPE, and surface restrictions.
  • Exterior fingerprints and water spots: Use Therapy or a compatible manufacturer-specific exterior cleaner, not a heavy-duty grate formula.

3. Choose spray, foam, or soak based on your time

Application type Advantages Best use Tradeoffs
Spray Fast to apply and easy to use during routine maintenance CitruSafe, Weber, Parker & Bailey, Dawn, Simple Green May run off vertical surfaces and require repeated applications
Foam Clings to deposits and gives the cleaner time to work Goo Gone and Rock Doctor Still requires scrubbing and thorough rinsing
Bag soak Long dwell time softens severe buildup with less immediate scrubbing Carbona on removable grates Requires an overnight wait, space, careful handling, and extensive rinsing

4. Consider odor and protective equipment

Low-odor choices include Kona and Weber Grill Grate Cleaner, while CitruSafe has a relatively mild orange scent. Easy-Off BBQ Cleaner has a stronger odor and warrants ventilation, gloves, and eye protection. Parker & Bailey may irritate the eyes, and heavy-duty products generally deserve more cautious handling than a dish spray.

Never mix grill cleaners with vinegar, bleach, ammonia, or another household chemical. Keep children and pets away from wet surfaces, soaking bags, and discarded contaminated towels. If the label calls for goggles, gloves, or outdoor ventilation, treat those directions as requirements rather than optional suggestions.

A safe grill-cleaning procedure

  1. Read the manual and label. Identify the materials and confirm that the cleaner is approved for each part you intend to treat.
  2. Shut down and cool the grill completely. Turn off the burners and fuel supply. Unless a product’s current label expressly permits another temperature, apply cleaner only to a cool grill.
  3. Remove the grates and loose debris. Take out removable parts and scrape away food particles and loose carbon before applying liquid.
  4. Protect nearby components. Avoid uncontrolled spray on burners, ignition systems, electrical parts, insulation, and areas that cannot be rinsed.
  5. Test an inconspicuous spot. This is especially important on painted steel, porcelain enamel, coated grates, faux stainless steel, and older finishes.
  6. Apply the correct amount. Follow the label’s spray, foam, or soak instructions. Do not improvise an overnight soak with a product intended for short contact.
  7. Allow the stated dwell time. Kona may need about 20 minutes for baked-on food; Carbona’s described bag method requires eight hours. Other products should follow their current package directions.
  8. Scrub with a suitable tool. Use a scraper, nylon brush, bristle-free brush, or other tool approved for the surface. Avoid aggressive abrasion on enamel, paint, and polished metal.
  9. Rinse food-contact surfaces thoroughly. Rinsing is not optional simply because a product has a food-surface or nontoxic claim. Remove cleaner residue before cooking.
  10. Dry and inspect. Dry grates, drip pans, and shiny metal to reduce streaking and corrosion risk. Reassemble only after checking that no residue remains.

Mechanical tools can make a major difference after the cleaner loosens the residue. Because loose wire bristles can become a food-safety hazard, consider a bristle-free grill brush, grill scraper, nylon brush, or steam-cleaning tool instead of making a wire brush the default. Bob Vila’s grill-brush research discusses bristle-free alternatives and the risks of loose bristles.

What not to do

  • Do not spray a generic oven cleaner over the whole grill. Some heavy-duty formulas can damage finishes and components. Easy-Off BBQ Cleaner was treated as a removed-grate product in the reported testing, not an all-surface grill spray.
  • Do not clean a hot grill unless the exact label allows it. Heat can increase fumes, accelerate chemical action unpredictably, and damage finishes.
  • Do not assume “food-safe” means “no rinse.” Follow the label and rinse all food-contact surfaces.
  • Do not use aluminum-excluded products on aluminum parts. Goo Gone and Rock Doctor specifically carry aluminum restrictions in the research.
  • Do not use acidic or citrus cleaners on every exterior. Weber’s guidance identifies restrictions for certain painted, enameled, and plastic exterior surfaces.
  • Do not use abrasive pads indiscriminately. They can scratch or dull paint, enamel, plastic, and some stainless finishes.
  • Do not rely on a household substitute for neglected carbon. Vinegar and dish spray are maintenance options, not guaranteed replacements for a heavy-duty cleaner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use oven cleaner on my grill?

Only if the exact product label and your grill manual allow it for the specific part. Do not use ordinary oven cleaner as a universal grill treatment. In the reported testing, Easy-Off BBQ Cleaner was limited to removed grates because it can damage some surfaces, while Weber warns against oven cleaner on certain painted, enameled, and plastic exterior surfaces.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use dish soap or Dawn Powerwash on grill grates?

Dawn Platinum Powerwash can be a reasonable light-duty option for routine grease when the grill manual and current product label permit it. Use the grill while cool, scrub the residue, and rinse food-contact surfaces thoroughly. It is not the best choice for thick baked-on carbon.

What is the safest cleaner for stainless steel?

For a compatible stainless-steel exterior, Therapy Stainless Steel Cleaner Kit is the focused choice in this comparison. Use a compatible grate cleaner on stainless cooking grates instead. Check whether the surface is genuine stainless steel, painted steel, or faux stainless, and test an inconspicuous area first.

Should the grill be hot when I apply cleaner?

Generally, no. Start with a completely cool grill unless the exact product label expressly permits another temperature. Weber’s owner guidance says to cool the grill before cleaning. A cool surface also makes it easier to control overspray and avoid excess fumes.

Do I need to rinse grill cleaner off before cooking?

Yes. Rinse every treated food-contact surface thoroughly according to the product label, even when the product is described as nontoxic or food-surface safe. Dry the parts and inspect them for remaining residue before reassembly and cooking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use distilled white vinegar on my grill?

Vinegar may help with light residue when your grill manufacturer permits an acidic cleaner, but it is not a heavy-duty degreaser. Do not generalize it to every exterior: Weber specifically warns against acidic and citrus cleaners on certain painted, enameled, and plastic surfaces.

The Bottom Line

For most routine jobs, choose CitruSafe BBQ Grill Cleaner. It offers the best balance of grease-cutting ability, odor, and versatility when used on compatible cool surfaces. For removable grates with severe buildup, choose Carbona Oven Rack & Grill Cleaner for an overnight bag soak or Easy-Off BBQ Cleaner for a faster but more demanding deep clean. Rock Doctor is another heavy-duty foam option where the surface is not aluminum or painted. For a stainless-steel exterior, use Therapy Stainless Steel Cleaner Kit—or a compatible manufacturer-specific exterior cleaner such as Weber Exterior Grill Cleaner—instead of a grate degreaser. In every case, the grill manual, current product label, material compatibility, cool-surface rule, and thorough rinsing matter more than the product’s marketing category.
