For most U.S. households, the Ninja Precision Temperature Kettle is the best all-purpose choice because it combines a large 1.7-liter capacity with variable-temperature control, one-touch programs, a live temperature display, and a keep-warm function. The OXO Brew Adjustable Temperature Kettle is the better choice if you want single-degree control in a standard-spout kettle; the Cuisinart PerfecTemp CPK-17P1 is the simpler tea-focused value pick; and the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro is the right tool for pour-over coffee.
There is no objectively best electric kettle for every buyer. A 0.9-liter gooseneck kettle optimized for coffee pours is not a better family kettle than a 1.7-liter standard-spout model. This ranking is for current U.S. 120-volt products, with prices and availability checked against the supplied research snapshot on August 10, 2026. Prices can change, and some manufacturers sell visually similar models under different model numbers.
Important safety note: several 1.5-liter Zwilling Enfinigy kettles were recalled in the United States in May 2026 because their handles can loosen or separate. The recalled models do not appear in this ranking; check the exact model number before buying or using any Enfinigy kettle.

Their results were not produced under one shared laboratory protocol, so boil times and temperature readings should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
Our 10 picks
1. Ninja Precision Temperature Kettle: best overall for most households
Buy it if: you want one kettle that can boil a large amount of water quickly and also handle tea or coffee at a selected temperature.
#1 Best Overall
- Smart Voice & App Control: Govee electric kettle supports Bluetooth or WiFi connection, which is more stable and faster than kettles that can only be connected through Bluetooth, as the control range is not limited by distance. You can Schedule a time to boil your water.
- 4 Easy Presets & Keep-Warm Control: Govee smart kettle allows you to brew coffee and tea like a pro, with an app that lets you set your precise desired temperature from 104 °F to 212 °F. In addition, the Keep-Warm function automatically maintains water temperature for a full 2 hours. Make Electric Gooseneck Kettle your optimal brewing partner.
- Rapid Boil: 1200w quickly heats 0.8L water in only 3-5 minutes to help you enjoy a cup of coffee in no time. This electric kettle features a ready tone that beeps three times when the water reaches the preset temp, which you can turn off on the app.
- Precision Pour: The long gooseneck spout design has a powerful but precise stream for an optimal pour overflow rate. The pour over kettle's balanced body build and counterbalanced handle provide a sturdy grip, encouraging a slower pour.
- Built for Taste and Safety:Made of 304 food-grade stainless steel, Govee electric tea kettle comes with an NTC temperature sensor that automatically shuts off when the water reaches the desired temperature. The electric kettle with Boil Dry Protection will automatically shut off when the water dries out.
The U.S. Ninja Precision Temperature Kettle is the broadest compromise-free option in this group. It holds 1.7 liters, uses 1,500 watts, offers seven one-touch programs, supports manual temperature selection, shows the live water temperature, and can hold temperature for 30 minutes. It also has automatic shutoff and boil-dry protection. Ninja claims that it can boil one cup in as little as 90 seconds; that is a manufacturer claim and depends on starting temperature, water volume, voltage, and elevation.
Tom’s Guide named it the best overall kettle after testing the models in its guide, emphasizing its capacity, speed, and temperature features. Those strengths make it a sensible default for households that make tea, instant coffee, oatmeal, ramen, French press coffee, or several mugs in succession.
Trade-offs: this is not a small or especially light kettle. The manufacturer lists it at about 4.8 pounds, before adding water. Also verify the exact current product number: the research identifies KT200 but notes that a newer outlet listing may use a different SKU. Do not assume every Ninja Precision Temperature Kettle listing is the same U.S. model.
Bottom line: choose the Ninja when you need capacity and flexible temperature control more than the smallest footprint or the lightest body.
See Ninja’s current specifications.
2. OXO Brew Adjustable Temperature Kettle: best standard-spout precision kettle
Buy it if: you want precise temperature selection but prefer a conventional spout that pours quickly and works for general kitchen tasks.
The OXO Brew Adjustable Temperature Kettle lets you select any temperature from 104°F to 212°F in one-degree increments. It has a 1.75-liter capacity, a real-time display, a cordless kettle body, and a 30-minute keep-warm function. OXO lists the current price at $119.99.
This is the strongest choice for a buyer who finds tea presets too limiting but does not want a gooseneck coffee kettle. You can set a precise temperature for green tea, French press coffee, or pour-over water, then use its standard spout to fill a pot or several mugs without the slow flow of a gooseneck.
Bon Appétit selected the OXO as its overall pick after testing and retesting 26 kettles. Its testers found the low-temperature readings ran approximately one degree high in part of their testing. That is a small error for ordinary brewing, but it is a reminder that a one-degree display setting does not guarantee laboratory-level accuracy.
Trade-offs: there are no dedicated black-, green-, white-, or oolong-tea buttons. You choose the temperature yourself. If you want one-button tea settings, the Cuisinart or Breville IQ is more convenient.
Bottom line: the OXO is the better precision kettle than the Ninja if you favor a polished standard-spout design and single-degree adjustment over one-touch presets.

3. Cuisinart PerfecTemp CPK-17P1: best midrange kettle for tea
Buy it if: you regularly drink different types of tea and want preset temperatures without paying premium gooseneck-kettle prices.
The Cuisinart PerfecTemp CPK-17P1 has a 1.7-liter capacity, 1,500 watts, and six preset buttons for tea and coffee. Its other features include a 30-minute keep-warm period, two-minute lift-off memory, automatic shutoff, boil-dry protection, a removable scale filter, BPA-free construction, and a limited three-year warranty. Cuisinart lists it at $129.95.
Food Network and Reviewed both favor the Cuisinart family for its preset tea temperatures, speed, capacity, and straightforward operation. The presets are especially useful if multiple people in a household make different teas and do not want to look up temperatures each time.
The two-minute lift-off memory is a practical detail: you can lift the kettle to pour and return it to the base without immediately losing the selected program. That is different from assuming that every keep-warm feature continues after the kettle leaves its base.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Trade-offs: preset temperatures are less flexible than the OXO’s one-degree control. The stainless-steel construction may also be heavier and hotter to touch than a double-wall design. BPA-free does not mean plastic-free, so buyers concerned about water-contact materials should inspect the manufacturer’s disclosures rather than infer them from the label.
Bottom line: this is the practical tea pick when you want a large kettle, dedicated programs, and a substantial warranty without moving to Breville’s premium pricing.
See Cuisinart’s specifications and warranty information.
4. Fellow Stagg EKG Pro: best gooseneck kettle for pour-over coffee
Buy it if: you brew pour-over coffee and want a slow, controllable stream rather than a fast general-purpose pour.
Recommended Free Tools
The Fellow Stagg EKG Pro is built around pouring control. It has a 0.9-liter capacity, a gooseneck spout, single-degree temperature control from 104°F to 212°F, temperature-hold options, altitude adjustment, a brew timer, clock, scheduling, and firmware updates. Bon Appétit lists a two-year warranty that can be extended to three years with registration.
The narrow spout makes it easier to control flow rate and placement over a coffee bed. That control is valuable for pour-over brewing, where a fast or uneven stream can disturb the bed and make repeatable brewing more difficult.
Rank #2
- ADJUSTABLE TEMPERATURES & REAL-TIME DISPLAY: Designed for style, performance and convenience, the Electric Kettle has touch-screen controls with pre-programmed temperature settings that include White Tea, Green Tea, Oolong Tea/Coffee & Boil. Temperatures can also be adjusted using the + and - buttons as well as displaying temperatures in real time. There is also an audible indicator beeps twice to let you know when selected temperature is achieved.
- DUAL-WALL COOL TOUCH BODY: The food grade #304 Stainless-steel interior coupled with a cool-touch body and Borosilicate glass results in a beautiful modern design. There’s also a hinged, stainless-steel lid for easy access for filling and cleaning and a mesh filter is built into the lid to ensure an accurate and debris free pour.
- KEEP WARM feature maintains desired water temperature for up to 2-hours with auto shut off and boil-dry protection.
- BPA FREE: The Elite Gourmet Touch-Screen Electric 1.7L Water Kettle has a #304 food-grade stainless-steel interior, cordless base and BPA-free parts that heat water at the touch of a button.
- FAST, CONVENIENT & EASY: 1100 watts of power will quickly heat up to 1.7 liters of water in less than 10 minutes. Enjoy hot beverages like tea, coffee, hot chocolate or enjoy delicious soups or broth or add hot water to instant oatmeal, cereals, ramen and even baby formula without the long wait.
Do not confuse the EKG Pro’s app support with full remote operation. Fellow says the app is used for firmware updates and pairing; it does not remotely turn the kettle on or off. The exact Stagg EKG, EKG Pro, and Pro Studio variants also differ, so check the model name, controls, base, and warranty on the listing.
Trade-offs: 0.9 liter is small for a family, the pour is deliberately slow, and the premium price is hard to justify if you mainly boil water for tea bags or cooking. Fellow also says its EKG kettles are not fully plastic-free: the interior is 304 stainless steel, but other materials, including silicone and plastic components, remain part of the construction.

5. Fellow Clyde: best simple premium kettle
Buy it if: you want an attractive, well-specified kettle that boils water without temperature menus, apps, or a gooseneck.
The Fellow Clyde is a 1.5-liter, 1,500-watt boil-only kettle with one-touch operation, a drip-free spout, a heat-resistant silicone handle, automatic shutoff, and boil-dry protection. Fellow lists a two-year standard warranty, extendable to three years after registration, and a $99.95 price.
Its appeal is simplicity. There is one primary job—boiling water—and the controls do not require choosing a tea profile or navigating a display. The 1.5-liter size is large enough for several drinks while remaining less bulky than many 1.7- or 1.8-liter models.
Trade-offs: it cannot set or maintain a brewing temperature below boiling. The body is stainless steel, but the lid and base include plastic and the handle uses silicone overmolding. It is therefore not a plastic-free kettle, even though stainless steel is prominent in the construction.
Hard-water maintenance matters. Fellow warns that limescale can cause delayed temperature readings, overboiling, inaccurate temperatures, and reduced heating efficiency. The company also sells replacement bodies and bases for some current products, but Clyde components are not universally interchangeable with Stagg or Corvo components.
Bottom line: Clyde is worth considering when design, handling, and simple operation matter more than variable temperature.

6. Mueller Ultra 1.8L: best inexpensive large-capacity kettle
Buy it if: you want a large glass kettle for the lowest practical price and only need boiling water.
The Mueller Ultra listed by the manufacturer has a 1.8-liter borosilicate-glass body, a stainless-steel filter, a cordless base, automatic shutoff, boil-dry protection, and a removable lid. The listed price was $34.99. Food Network’s testing of a 1.8-liter Mueller model found that it boiled three cups in just over three minutes.
That capacity is useful for several mugs, oatmeal, instant noodles, or adding hot water to a cooking pot. The glass body also lets you see the water level and mineral buildup without opening the lid.
Trade-offs: this is a boil-only kettle with limited published evidence about long-term durability. Glass is more vulnerable to impact and thermal shock than stainless steel, and the body, water, and steam can become hot. The exact model designation should be confirmed because inexpensive kettles are frequently sold under similar names.
Bottom line: Mueller is the value choice for capacity, not for temperature precision, insulation, or premium long-term serviceability.
Check Mueller’s current product listing.
7. Cosori Electric Tea Kettle: best inexpensive glass kettle
Buy it if: you want an inexpensive glass kettle with a visible water chamber and no plastic inside the water path on the current listed version.
Cosori’s current product page lists a 1.7-liter borosilicate-glass kettle rated at 1,500 watts, with automatic shutoff, boil-dry protection, a wide opening, and no plastic inside the water chamber. The listed price was $25.99 when checked.
Model identification is unusually important here. Cosori sells multiple glass-kettle versions with different capacities and features. Tom’s Guide tested a 1.4-liter Cosori variant, not necessarily the same model as the current 1.7-liter listing. Its testers reported occasional lid leakage, slow pouring, and difficult cleaning. Those observations should not automatically be assigned to every Cosori glass kettle, but they are valid reasons to confirm the exact SKU before purchasing.
Trade-offs: the listed version is boil-only, glass can break, and mineral stains are easy to see. A claim that no plastic contacts water also does not establish that the kettle is completely free of plastic or silicone elsewhere.
Bottom line: Cosori is a strong low-budget candidate if visible boiling and a glass chamber matter more than refined pouring or variable temperature.

8. Breville IQ Kettle BKE820XL: best premium preset kettle
Buy it if: you want dedicated tea temperatures and premium controls, but do not need the automatic tea basket in Breville’s Tea Maker.
The Breville IQ Kettle BKE820XL is a seven-cup-class kettle with five temperature settings for black, green, white, and oolong tea, plus French press coffee. Breville’s current direct price is $179.95. Reviewed describes it as fast, easy to use, and programmable.
The IQ Kettle occupies the space between a basic preset kettle and a specialized coffee or tea appliance. Its preset approach is easier than manually selecting a temperature, while the larger capacity is more useful than a small gooseneck kettle for households.
Trade-offs: it overlaps heavily with the less expensive Cuisinart PerfecTemp. The higher price is justified only if the Breville’s controls, fit and finish, pouring behavior, temperature performance, or warranty are materially better for you. Do not buy it merely because the brand is premium.
Bottom line: choose the Breville IQ when you value a premium preset interface and are willing to pay substantially more for it.

9. Breville Tea Maker BTM800XL: best for serious loose-leaf tea
Buy it if: you want the appliance to control both water temperature and the steeping process for loose-leaf tea.
The Breville Tea Maker BTM800XL is not merely an electric kettle. Its manual specifies five tea programs—green, white, oolong, herbal, and black—with preset temperatures and steep times. A powered tea basket automatically lowers into the water and raises when the programmed steep is complete. Food Network tested it as its choice for serious tea drinkers.
This automation can produce more repeatable results than heating water in a normal kettle and timing a tea infuser separately. It is the most purpose-built option here for someone who drinks loose-leaf tea often and wants a repeatable routine.
Trade-offs: the appliance is larger, more expensive, and more complex than a normal kettle. It is a poor value for someone who boils water for tea bags, coffee, or cooking. More mechanisms and parts also mean more cleaning and more potential maintenance than a simple kettle.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBottom line: buy the Tea Maker only if automatic loose-leaf brewing is the reason you are shopping; otherwise, the Cuisinart or Breville IQ is more practical.
See Breville’s product page and read the BTM800XL manual.
10. Aarke Kettle: best design-led premium kettle
Buy it if: the kettle will remain visible on your counter and you want insulated construction with a small set of useful presets.
Aarke’s North American listing specifies five temperatures—104°F, 170°F, 185°F, 200°F, and 212°F—along with double-wall construction, memory for the last setting, stainless-steel construction, a stainless-steel filter, and a wide opening for cleaning. Its maximum fill is 1.2 liters.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The relatively small capacity and double-wall body make it a better fit for a design-conscious one- or two-person kitchen than a large household. The last-setting memory also reduces the amount of repeated button pressing for regular tea routines.
Trade-offs: this is expensive for a 1.2-liter kettle, and it is not completely plastic-free. Aarke says water contacts stainless steel and food-grade silicone, while steam can contact plastic in the lid structure. The official page in the supplied research is an en-CA storefront, so verify U.S. availability, model number, warranty, and currency before publication or purchase.
Bottom line: Aarke is a style-and-insulation purchase, not the capacity or value winner. Food Network called it the fastest kettle in its comparison, but also noted that the advantage was only a few seconds over less expensive models.
See Aarke’s North American listing and support and descaling guidance.
How these kettles were evaluated
The independent sources behind this roundup use different protocols. Food Network measured the time to boil three cups of room-temperature water, listened for alerts, checked whether kettles held temperature, evaluated pouring and dripping, emptied the kettles, and tested multiple temperature settings where available. Tom’s Guide tested different water volumes and considered speed, capacity, pouring, noise, footprint, cord storage, limescale filters, and safety. Bon Appétit emphasized standard-spout versus gooseneck behavior, temperature accuracy, taste, materials, and longer-term use. Good Housekeeping reports more than 1,000 data points covering speed, ease of use, design, capacity, measurements, and warranty information.
Those results are useful but not a substitute for one controlled head-to-head lab test. This article does not invent a new boil-time, decibel, exterior-temperature, or accuracy result for models whose published evidence does not provide one. Where a number comes from a manufacturer, it is labeled as a manufacturer claim; where an observation comes from an editorial test, the source is linked.
Rank #4
- 6 TEMPERATURE PRESETS. The variable temperature electric kettle brings water up to the perfect temperatures to make green, white, oolong, black and delicate herbal teas and French press coffee. The kettle beeps when the selected temperature is reached.
- HOLD WATER AT YOUR SELECTED TEMPERATURE. Press the keep warm button to maintain the desired temperature for as long as 30 minutes or until the electric tea kettle is removed from the base for serving.
- DURABLE, BPA-FREE, FOOD-GRADE STAINLESS STEEL INTERIOR: The BPA-free stainless steel interior of this electric water kettle provides years of long-lasting performance, is easy to clean and has a MAX fill line for easy filling.
- FAST BOIL WITH 1500 WATTS: Rapidly bring water to a boil so you can make yourself a quick cup of tea, hot cocoa or coffee without the long wait — perfect for hectic mornings or anytime you need hot water fast.
- PEACE OF MIND WITH AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF AND BOIL-DRY PROTECTION: The automatic shutoff feature with boil-dry protection keeps the stainless steel electric kettle from scorching.
A properly controlled in-house comparison would test each current U.S. 120-volt model at 250 mL, approximately 710 mL, 1 liter, and its maximum usable fill. The tester should use the same water and starting temperature, record room conditions, repeat each measurement at least three times, and compare the kettle’s ready signal with an independent thermometer. Variable-temperature models should be checked at several settings immediately after the ready signal and again after five minutes. Keep-warm tests should measure 15-, 30-, 45-, and 60-minute temperatures and determine whether lifting the kettle resets the cycle.
Pour tests should record full-kettle weight, one-handed handling, fast and slow flow, dripping, lid leakage, emptying, handle heat, and exterior temperature. Noise tests need a fixed distance and a consistent background level. Cleaning tests should record the lid opening, filter removal, interior access, dishwasher instructions, descaling method, and whether the kettle can be emptied completely.
How to choose the right electric kettle
Choose capacity before features
- 0.9 liter: suitable for one or two coffee brews, but inconvenient for families and cooking.
- 1.2 to 1.5 liters: a practical middle range for one or two people or moderate tea use.
- 1.7 to 1.8 liters: better for several mugs, oatmeal, ramen, and kitchen tasks, although a full kettle becomes heavy.
Nominal capacity is not the same as comfortable working capacity. Leave the water below the MAX line and consider whether the full kettle will be easy to lift and pour.
Pay for variable temperature only when you will use it
Temperature control is useful for green, white, and oolong teas, pour-over coffee, French press coffee, and recipes that call for water below boiling. It can also prevent delicate teas from tasting harsh. It is unnecessary if you mainly make black tea, instant drinks, oatmeal, ramen, or cooking water and want the fewest controls and failure points.
Preset buttons are convenient, but they are not the same as accuracy. A green-tea button tells you the manufacturer’s chosen target; an independent thermometer is needed to determine how close the kettle actually comes.
Standard spout or gooseneck?
A standard spout pours faster and is more useful for pots, French presses, multiple mugs, and general cooking. A gooseneck spout gives finer control over a slow pour and is primarily worthwhile for pour-over coffee. It is usually smaller, slower, and more expensive. Unless pour-over is your main use, choose a standard spout.

Glass makes the water level visible and can avoid some metal-contact concerns, but it shows scale, retains heat less effectively than many insulated designs, and can break. Stainless steel is generally more resistant to impact, but a single-wall metal body can become very hot. Double-wall construction can reduce exterior heat and improve retention, but often adds weight, cost, or bulk.
Do not equate stainless steel with plastic-free construction. Water may contact stainless steel while seals, filters, sensors, or lid components use silicone or plastic. Likewise, BPA-free does not mean plastic-free or chemical-free. Ask for the exact model’s water-path materials rather than relying on a brand family name.
Keep-warm features need closer inspection
A label such as 30-minute keep warm leaves several unanswered questions: At what temperature does it hold the water? Does the timer begin after boiling? Does it continue if the kettle is lifted from its base? Does replacing the kettle restart the cycle? Does the function end after a safety timeout?
Keep warm also consumes electricity while active. For occasional use, reheating a small amount may use less energy than maintaining a full kettle. For repeated cups over half an hour, holding temperature may be more convenient. Avoid heating more water than you need.
Smart does not always mean remotely controllable
The GoveeLife Smart Electric Kettle Pro is the leading smart-kettle candidate in this comparison pool: its current official listing advertises app and voice control, four presets, a 1.7-liter capacity, 1,500 watts, one- or two-hour insulation, and a tea infuser. It needs independent testing for app reliability, temperature accuracy, and fail-safe behavior before it can displace a top-ranked pick.
By contrast, Fellow’s EKG Pro app is for firmware updates and pairing, not remote start and stop. Smart features are worth paying for only if scheduling, voice control, or an extended keep-warm function solves a real problem.
Consider hard water and cleaning
Mineral scale can affect heating efficiency, sensors, auto shutoff, water taste, and displayed temperature. Look for a removable scale filter, a wide lid opening, a clear descaling procedure, and an interior that can be reached and dried. Descaling frequency depends on local water hardness; Aarke suggests about every two months while noting that the actual interval varies by water supply.
Follow the manual’s instructions for vinegar, citric acid, or proprietary descaler. Never submerge the electrical base, and do not use abrasive tools that can damage the water chamber or seals.

Check warranties, parts, and compatibility
Compare the standard warranty, registration extensions, and availability of replacement filters, kettle bodies, and bases. Do not assume that bases from the same brand or product family interchange. Fellow, for example, states that Clyde bodies and bases are not compatible with Stagg or Corvo bases.

Zwilling Enfinigy 1.5-liter recall
Stop using the recalled models and request a refund. On May 14, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of approximately 113,440 Zwilling Enfinigy 1.5-liter and Enfinigy Pro 1.5-liter electric kettles. The handle can loosen or separate, allowing hot water to spill. The CPSC notice reports five incident reports involving the recalled products, including one second-degree burn, and 163 total reports of handles loosening or separating.
The affected U.S. model numbers are 53101-200, 53101-201, 53101-500, 53101-501, 53101-502, 53101-503, and 53101-504. Stop using an affected kettle and follow the CPSC refund instructions. The notice concerns the 1.5-liter models; do not assume that every Enfinigy kettle is included or excluded without checking its exact model number.
Use water only unless the manual explicitly says otherwise
Ordinary electric kettles are designed to heat water. Do not heat milk, soup, broth, powdered drinks, or other liquids in one unless the manufacturer expressly designed that appliance for the purpose. Food Network notes that most tested kettle manuals specify water only, and Fellow warns that milk and other liquids can scald and may void the warranty.
Look for real safety certification and built-in protections
Automatic shutoff and boil-dry protection are essential features, but they do not replace attentive use. Boil-dry protection is intended to stop heating when the kettle is empty or nearly empty; it is not permission to run the appliance without water. Keep the base dry, use a stable outlet, stay below the MAX line, and keep steam away from hands and cabinets.
UL Standard 1082 covers household brewing-type appliances, including water kettles that heat liquids above 115°F and are lifted and tilted to dispense them. Certification should be verified on the physical appliance or its documentation through a recognized mark such as UL, ETL, or CSA; do not infer certification from a retailer description.
Materials claims require precise wording
A manufacturer’s BPA-free claim is narrower than a plastic-free claim. The FDA’s current BPA information supports the safety of BPA at currently approved food-contact exposure levels, but that does not answer every question about every plastic or other substance. Avoid claims that a kettle is non-toxic, chemical-free, or universally safer unless they are supported by specific, independent evidence.

Common electric-kettle questions
Are electric kettles faster than microwaves or stovetop kettles?
Often, but the answer depends on the amount of water, starting temperature, wattage, voltage, and altitude. A 1,500-watt U.S. kettle is optimized for heating water efficiently, but a full 1.7-liter kettle will take longer than one cup. Compare only tests using the same volume and starting conditions. A microwave may be practical for a single small mug, while an electric kettle is generally more convenient and repeatable for multiple cups.
Can you heat milk in an electric kettle?
Not in a normal water kettle. Milk can foam, scorch, spill into electrical components, and create a difficult-to-clean residue. Use a saucepan or an appliance specifically designed to heat milk.
Is a gooseneck kettle useful for tea?
It can be, but most tea drinkers do not need one. A gooseneck helps when you want a slow, controlled pour, especially for pour-over coffee. A standard spout is faster and more convenient for filling mugs, pots, and tea infusers.
Does temperature control improve coffee or tea?
It can improve repeatability and prevent delicate tea from being exposed to boiling water. Green, white, and oolong teas often benefit from lower temperatures, while pour-over coffee requires a controlled target. Temperature control adds little value if you always boil water for black tea or cooking.

Which kettles have no plastic touching water?
The current Cosori listing says there is no plastic inside its water chamber. That is a model-specific manufacturer claim, not a universal statement about all Cosori kettles. Aarke says water contacts stainless steel and food-grade silicone, and Fellow explicitly says its EKG kettles are not fully plastic-free. Confirm the exact SKU, lid, filter, sensor seal, and interior materials before buying.
Are glass kettles safe?
They can be safe when used correctly and equipped with automatic shutoff and boil-dry protection, but glass can break from impact or thermal shock. Keep the body away from children, avoid sudden temperature changes unless the manual permits them, and replace the kettle if the glass is chipped or cracked.
How often should an electric kettle be descaled?
There is no universal interval because water hardness varies. Inspect the heating surface and filter, follow the manual, and descale more frequently in hard-water areas. Aarke gives about two months as a general reference while noting that local water conditions determine the actual schedule.
Does keep warm use much electricity?
It uses electricity continuously while active, although the exact consumption depends on the kettle, target temperature, insulation, room conditions, and duration. Use it for repeated cups when convenience matters, but heat only the amount you need when minimizing energy use is the priority.
Can an electric kettle be used at high altitude?
Water boils at a lower temperature at higher elevations. Some variable-temperature kettles, including the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro, provide altitude adjustment. A kettle without that feature may still heat water normally, but its boil detection and displayed temperature may not correspond to sea-level expectations.
Why does a kettle shut off before the water appears to boil?
Possible causes include a small water volume below the minimum line, scale covering the sensor, a lid that is not closed correctly, a blocked steam path, an unstable base connection, or a faulty temperature sensor. Unplug the kettle, allow it to cool, check the water level and lid, and descale it according to the manual. Stop using it if the problem continues.
What does boil-dry protection do?
It is a safety feature that interrupts heating when the kettle detects that it is empty or has too little water. It protects the heating element from operating dry, but it is not a substitute for filling the kettle correctly or following the minimum-fill line.
Are the Fellow EKG Pro and Govee smart in the same way?
No. Fellow’s EKG Pro app supports pairing and firmware updates but does not remotely start or stop the kettle. Govee’s official Smart Electric Kettle Pro listing advertises app and voice control, along with presets and longer insulation. Independent testing is still important for app reliability and fail-safe behavior.

Avoid using the recalled Zwilling Enfinigy 1.5-liter and Enfinigy Pro 1.5-liter models with U.S. model numbers 53101-200, 53101-201, 53101-500, 53101-501, 53101-502, 53101-503, and 53101-504. Check the model number on the kettle or base and follow the CPSC recall notice for a refund.
Before you buy: a short checklist
- Confirm the exact U.S. model number, not just the brand or product family.
- Verify that it is a 120-volt model intended for U.S. use.
- Choose capacity based on your normal fill, not only the advertised maximum.
- Decide whether you need manual temperature control, presets, or only boiling.
- Choose a standard spout unless controlled pour-over flow is a primary goal.
- Check the water-path materials rather than relying on BPA-free or stainless-steel marketing.
- Confirm automatic shutoff, boil-dry protection, minimum fill, warranty, and replacement-filter availability.
- Consider exterior heat, full-kettle weight, lid access, pouring drips, and hard-water cleaning.
- Check the CPSC recall database immediately before purchase and again when updating an old recommendation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best electric kettle overall in 2026?
The Ninja Precision Temperature Kettle is the best all-purpose choice in this comparison for most U.S. households because it combines a 1.7-liter capacity, 1,500 watts, manual temperature control, seven programs, a live display, and a 30-minute keep-warm function. The OXO is a better alternative if you prefer single-degree control in a standard-spout design.
What is the best electric kettle for pour-over coffee?
The Fellow Stagg EKG Pro is the best fit for pour-over coffee because its gooseneck spout and adjustable 104–212°F temperature range provide precise flow and temperature control. Its 0.9-liter capacity and slow pour make it less useful as a general family kettle.
What is the best electric kettle for tea?
The Cuisinart PerfecTemp CPK-17P1 is the best midrange tea choice because it offers six tea and coffee presets, a 1.7-liter capacity, a 30-minute keep-warm period, and a three-year limited warranty. The Breville Tea Maker BTM800XL is better for serious loose-leaf drinkers who want automatic steeping.
Can I use an electric kettle to heat soup or milk?
No. Ordinary electric kettles are designed for water. Milk and soup can foam, scorch, spill, damage the kettle, and void the warranty. Use a saucepan or an appliance designed for those liquids.
Are electric kettles with plastic parts unsafe?
A plastic part does not by itself establish that a kettle is unsafe. However, BPA-free does not mean plastic-free, and water-contact materials vary by exact model. Check the manufacturer’s materials disclosure and avoid unsupported claims such as non-toxic or chemical-free.
How often should I descale an electric kettle?
Descale according to the manual and local water hardness. Hard-water homes may need more frequent cleaning. Mineral scale can affect heating efficiency, sensors, auto shutoff, taste, and temperature readings.
Is the Zwilling Enfinigy kettle safe to buy?
Do not use the recalled U.S. 1.5-liter or Enfinigy Pro 1.5-liter models with model numbers 53101-200, 53101-201, 53101-500, 53101-501, 53101-502, 53101-503, and 53101-504. The CPSC says the handles can loosen or separate and instructs owners to stop using the affected products and seek a refund.
The Bottom Line
The right kettle depends on the job. Choose the Ninja Precision Temperature Kettle for the broadest combination of capacity and temperature control, the OXO Brew Adjustable Temperature Kettle for precise standard-spout pouring, the Cuisinart PerfecTemp CPK-17P1 for convenient tea presets, the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro for pour-over coffee, and the Mueller Ultra 1.8L or Cosori Electric Tea Kettle for inexpensive boiling. Before ordering, verify the exact U.S. model number, voltage, current price, water-contact materials, warranty, and recall status.
