The 7.5 announcement also marked Space Mushrooms taking over the project and future development from its original developer, Emmanuel Puybaret. That is useful context when evaluating the release’s project history, but it does not turn 7.5 into a major feature upgrade.

Which version is current?
Use the platform name whenever you discuss the version. As of August 18, 2026, the official desktop website still labels its downloadable desktop product 7.5, and the download page shows a May 5, 2025 update date. Apple’s Mac listing, however, shows later 7.5.x builds and version 7.6.6 in its version history.
In practical terms, “Sweet Home 3D 7.5” usually means the desktop release family. It is not safe to describe 7.5 as the newest build on Windows, macOS, mobile, web, and the App Store simultaneously. Check the official desktop page for the desktop package and the relevant platform store for a platform-specific build.

The download page also identifies Java Web Start as a way to launch version 7.5 with Java 8. This is a legacy route. Most users should start with the all-in-one installer bundled with Java rather than installing Java 8 solely for Java Web Start.

- Use the bundled-Java installer first. It avoids many problems caused by an incompatible or incorrectly configured Java installation.
- Update the graphics driver. 3D failures can result from outdated drivers or unsupported acceleration.
- Test with a simple project. Temporarily remove external furniture libraries and reduce the number of objects or high-resolution textures.
- Check macOS security prompts. If macOS blocks a downloaded application, confirm that it came from the official site or its linked SourceForge project, then approve the intended application through the system’s security settings if you trust that download.

Do not apply the “10,000 models” figure to every free installer. Should you use Sweet Home 3D 7.5?
