As of the 16 October 2026 snapshot, Ambuja Cements, Kaynes Technology India and Steel Authority of India (SAIL) appear on the reported NSE F&O ban list. The table shows market-wide position-limit (MWPL) utilization of 87.62% for Ambuja Cements, 102.14% for Kaynes Technology and 94.91% for SAIL. Because the exchange recalculates ban status every trading day, confirm the NSE next-trade-date CSV before placing an order.

| Stock | Reported MWPL utilization | How to read the snapshot | Applicable date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kaynes Technology India Ltd | 102.14% | Above the 95% entry threshold; listed in the reported ban table | 16 October 2026 snapshot |
| Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) | 94.91% | Very close to 95%; treat the percentage as a dated reading, not a forecast | 16 October 2026 snapshot |
| Ambuja Cements Ltd | 87.62% | Included in the reported ban table; verify the exchange file for the intended trade date | 16 October 2026 snapshot |
The percentages are utilization readings, not predictions of where a stock will trade next. A stock can move into or out of the list when open interest changes, so a prior-session table cannot substitute for the exchange’s file for your trading date.
What an NSE F&O ban means
NSE describes a ban security as one whose derivative contracts have crossed 95% of its market-wide position limit. During that period, clients and members may trade the security’s derivatives only to decrease positions through offsetting trades. Increasing exposure can lead to penal and disciplinary action.

The restriction concerns futures and options. Trading the company’s shares in the cash market continues, subject to the normal rules of that market.
How the 95% trigger and 80% exit level work
NSE Clearing checks each stock’s market-wide Future Equivalent (FutEq) open interest at the end of every day. If the FutEq open interest exceeds 95% of the applicable MWPL, the stock enters the ban from the next trading day.

Normal derivative trading does not restart merely because the percentage dips below 95%. NSE Clearing says combined FutEq open interest across all exchanges must fall to 80% of MWPL before normal trading resumes. The exchange performs this check daily, so the release date depends on the measured open interest rather than a fixed number of calendar days.
Can you buy or square off Ambuja Cements futures?
Reducing or closing an existing position
During a ban, an existing Ambuja Cements futures or options position may be reduced or closed with an offsetting transaction. In practical terms, the trade must lower your open exposure rather than create a new net position.

Opening or increasing exposure
A fresh trade that increases open interest is restricted. Do not assume that a buy order is permitted simply because your broker’s order screen accepts it; confirm whether the resulting position reduces or increases your exposure and check the exchange notice for that session.
Cash-market shares
You can still buy or sell Ambuja Cements shares in the cash market. The ban is a derivatives control, not a suspension of the company’s equity trading.

What happens if a trader increases a banned position?
The NSE Clearing FAQ cited for this mechanism specifies a penalty of 1% of the value of the violating quantity, with a minimum of INR 5,000 and a maximum of INR 100,000 per entity per stock under the stated framework. Broker risk controls, margin requirements and exchange actions can also affect whether an order is accepted. Check the current exchange circular and your broker’s contract note for the treatment applicable to your account.
Why MWPL utilization changes
MWPL measures derivative open interest against a stock-specific market-wide limit. NSE’s selection criteria base that limit on 20% of shares held by non-promoters, also called the free float. As positions are opened, closed or rolled, the FutEq open interest and the utilization percentage move.

F&O eligibility is maintained using additional rolling tests, including market capitalization, traded value, quarter-sigma and deliverable value. Those tests explain how limits and eligibility are administered; they do not tell you when the next ban will occur.

- Identify the exact trading date for which you need the status.
- Open the latest NSE F&O ban-list or next-trade-date CSV and check the security name.
- Compare the exchange listing with your broker’s contract and position screen.
- If the stock is listed, enter only an order that demonstrably offsets or reduces an existing derivative position.
- Recheck after the end-of-day update if you are carrying the position into the next session.
This process matters especially for Ambuja Cements: the 16 October table reports 87.62% utilization while still displaying the stock in the ban table. That apparent mismatch is a reason to rely on the exchange’s dated status file, rather than infer permission from a single percentage.
