Southern Indiana projects recognized by construction associations include road and public-works work honored in the Associated Builders and Contractors of Indiana/Kentucky’s 2026 Excellence in Construction program, as well as Southwest Indiana homebuilding and remodeling projects recognized in a separate statewide program in 2023. These are distinct awards with different categories, so they should not be treated as one ranking.
2026 ABC Indiana/Kentucky awards include five Southern Indiana projects
The Associated Builders and Contractors of Indiana/Kentucky (ABC) held its 2026 Excellence in Construction gala on September 24, 2026, at the Kentucky International Convention Center. ABC says the annual program recognizes member-company projects and the quality, craftsmanship, and dedication of Merit Shop contractors and their teams. Its stated criteria include innovation, quality, communication, and commitment to safety. The Award of Excellence recognizes the combined work of the project team, including contractor, owner, architect, and engineer. ABC’s awards program and results identify the following projects with Southern Indiana place references.

Southwest Indiana builders won separate IBA awards in 2023
The Southwestern Indiana Builders Association (SIBA) reported in its January 2024 newsletter that three Southwest Indiana members won categories in the Indiana Builders Association’s inaugural statewide Hoosier Excellence Awards. The awards recognized homebuilding and remodeling work, rather than the infrastructure and public-works projects in ABC’s program.

SIBA reported that the IBA received nearly 100 submissions for consideration and announced the winners at a ceremony in late November 2023. That figure applies to the statewide IBA program, not to ABC’s 2026 competition. SIBA’s association site is the local source for the Southwest Indiana winners.

The Milton-Madison Bridge is a historically significant Southern Indiana project recognized in transportation awards listed by the Indiana Department of Transportation. INDOT’s 2014 awards record describes how crews built the replacement truss superstructure along the shoreline, lifted it in sections onto temporary piers parallel to the existing bridge, and slid it onto strengthened piers. INDOT says this method reduced the bridge closure to one week, compared with a yearlong closure predicted using traditional construction techniques. The record lists honors including an ASHE Great Lakes Region Project of the Year award and the NADO 2014 Excellence in Regional Transportation Award.

How to read these recognitions
- Check the association and year. ABC’s Indiana/Kentucky program in 2026, IBA’s statewide Hoosier Excellence Awards in 2023, and the Milton-Madison Bridge’s 2014 transportation honors are separate programs and records.
- Keep award levels and categories attached to each project. ABC labels its results Excellence or Merit and publishes a category for each listed project; those labels should not be collapsed into a single ordinal ranking.
- Distinguish project recognition from a contractor ranking. ABC describes its highest recognition as honoring the combined project team, while the IBA categories cited by SIBA cover particular homebuilding and remodeling work.
- Limit location claims to what the records establish. ABC’s overall competition covers Indiana and Kentucky; the five projects listed above have Southern Indiana place references in their names. The association pages do not provide full project case studies or independent location verification beyond the published records.
