The Sony BRAVIA 3 was a compelling deal at $648 for the 65-inch model—but it does not automatically make TCL, Hisense, Roku, or other budget TVs a mistake. The discounted Sony offers strong processing, Google TV, Dolby Vision, and useful PlayStation features. However, its 60Hz panel, frame dimming, and lack of listed VRR leave some budget-brand alternatives better equipped for HDR and serious gaming.
The deal was published on January 30, 2026. Its reported prices may no longer be available, and Sony’s direct product page now lists the 65-inch K-65S30 as no longer available.

The reported Sony BRAVIA 3 deal
The deal covered Sony’s 2024 entry-level BRAVIA 3 television, also identified as the S30 series. The strongest value was the 65-inch K-65S30 at a reported $648, compared with a stated regular price of $799. The original coverage reported these prices:
Recommended Free Tools
| Size | Reported deal price | Reported regular price |
|---|---|---|
| 50-inch | $548 | $598 |
| 55-inch | $548 | $699 |
| 65-inch | $648 | $799 |
| 75-inch | $798 | $1,099 |
| 85-inch | $998 | $1,599 |
These were reported sale prices, not a guarantee of current availability or the lowest prices ever. By August 2026, Sony’s product page showed the 65-inch model as “item no longer available,” while a Walmart listing had recently surfaced at $598. That suggests remaining inventory, retailer-specific pricing, or marketplace stock rather than a broadly available Sony promotion.

The BRAVIA 3’s argument is less about having the most impressive hardware and more about how Sony processes everyday content. Its X1 processor and 4K X-Reality PRO are intended to clean up and upscale lower-resolution material. That may matter more when watching cable, broadcast television, DVDs, older streams, or compressed sports feeds than when watching high-quality native 4K video.
Sony also offers Google TV, Dolby Vision compatibility, and a familiar software ecosystem. PlayStation owners get Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode, while Sony Pictures Core promotions may include movie credits and limited streaming benefits. Eligibility, titles, redemption rules, and promotional terms vary, so treat those extras as bonuses rather than permanent subscription value.

Those are legitimate reasons to prefer the Sony, but the available deal coverage does not establish that it universally outperforms similarly priced TCL or Hisense televisions. There are no supplied controlled measurements for brightness, contrast, black levels, input lag, uniformity, viewing angles, or processing superiority.
The limitations that matter
The BRAVIA 3 remains an entry-level LCD television despite its Sony branding:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- 60Hz panel: It is not a 120Hz television.
- No listed VRR: Buyers seeking variable-refresh-rate gaming should look elsewhere.
- Frame dimming: It lacks the more precise contrast control of full-array local dimming or Mini-LED hardware.
- LCD black levels: It cannot match an OLED in dark-room contrast.
- Basic audio: Dolby Atmos support does not turn the 10W + 10W speakers into a cinematic surround system.
- Older model: A 2024 television sold in 2026 may be clearance stock, making comparison with newer models especially important.
Sony’s “Motionflow XR 240” marketing label should not be confused with a 240Hz native panel. The native refresh rate remains 60Hz.
Sony versus budget-brand alternatives
| If you care most about… | More sensible direction |
|---|---|
| Upscaling, broadcast TV, and Sony’s processing style | BRAVIA 3 |
| HDR brightness and contrast | TCL or Hisense Mini-LED/local-dimming model |
| 4K/120 gaming or VRR | A 120Hz TV with VRR and suitable HDMI 2.1 support |
| Largest screen for the money | Whichever brand has the strongest verified sale price |
| OLED-level black levels | OLED, usually at a higher price |
| Simple ecosystem continuity | The platform that matches your existing devices |
A discounted Mini-LED TCL or Hisense may produce brighter HDR highlights and deeper contrast. A 120Hz gaming television may be a better choice for Xbox Series X, PS5 Pro, or PC users. Conversely, the Sony may make more sense for a household watching mostly cable and older content, using Google TV, or wanting a familiar PlayStation-oriented interface.
Independent comparison coverage also places the BRAVIA 3’s direct-LED, 60Hz design and lack of local dimming against more advanced budget hardware rather than treating Sony as automatically superior. See What Hi-Fi’s comparison context for that distinction.

Who should buy the BRAVIA 3?
- Viewers who watch cable, broadcast channels, older HD content, or heavily compressed streams
- Buyers who specifically prefer Sony’s processing and Google TV
- PlayStation owners who want Sony’s Auto HDR Tone Mapping and ALLM but do not need 4K/120 gaming
- Shoppers who find the 65-inch model around the reported $648 price from a reputable seller
- Large-screen buyers who can verify that a discounted 75-inch or 85-inch unit is new, authorized stock
Who should skip it?
- Gamers who require 4K/120, VRR, or high-refresh-rate PC play
- Viewers who prioritize bright-room HDR impact and strong local contrast
- Buyers specifically seeking Mini-LED or full-array local dimming
- Anyone paying close to $800 when a newer or better-equipped television is available
- Shoppers who sit far off-center and have not checked the television’s viewing-angle performance
What price makes sense?
At the reported $648 price, the 65-inch BRAVIA 3 is a reasonable processing-and-software deal if those qualities matter to you. The reported $798 75-inch price could be attractive for size-conscious buyers, provided the inventory is factory-new and covered by a satisfactory warranty. The 50-inch price was less compelling because it represented only a $50 reduction, while the 55-inch price offered a larger stated discount.
Near Sony’s listed $799.99 price, the value argument becomes weaker. At that point, compare current 65-inch Mini-LED, local-dimming, and 120Hz models before choosing the older Sony. Do not assume that the original sale price remains live or that a marketplace listing has the same warranty as Sony or an authorized retailer.
Bottom line
The Sony BRAVIA 3 is a good discounted option for traditional TV viewers, Google TV users, Sony loyalists, and casual PlayStation players. Its processing, Dolby Vision support, software, and ecosystem features explain why it could look more polished than a basic budget TV.
But it is not a universal budget-brand killer. Its 60Hz panel, frame dimming, lack of listed VRR, and modest speakers remain meaningful compromises. Buy it when the discount is substantial and its strengths match your viewing habits; otherwise, a similarly priced Mini-LED or 120Hz budget television may deliver more performance per dollar.
For current stock and pricing, check the Sony product page and compare the seller and condition on any retailer listing, including Walmart’s listing or Best Buy’s listing.
