A handheld induction heater applies heat to metal around a seized nut or bolt without an open flame. To choose one, check whether its coils fit the fastener and available space, then compare power, electrical supply, cooling and the model’s duty cycle. Heating claims and operating limits are manufacturer- and model-specific, so use the tool’s manual rather than treating one kit’s figures as a guarantee for another.
What an induction heater does for a seized fastener
A handheld induction heater is designed to heat suitable metal locally, including rusted nuts, bolts and other fastenings. That localized heat can help release a stuck fastener during a repair. SIP, Clarke and Induction Innovations all describe their products for this kind of work: SIP’s 1500 W kit, Clarke’s IT1500 and Induction Innovations’ Mini-Ductor II.
Unlike an open flame, the heater does not use a flame at the workpiece. That does not make the job risk-free: hot metal can still burn, and the tool’s instructions govern safe operation. Manufacturers’ comparisons with flame heating should not be read as a guarantee that every repair or setting is safe.
Choose the coil for the fastener and access
The coil has to suit both the work and the heater. A tubular or helix coil can fit around a fastener; a flat coil is intended for sheet metal or decals; and a flexible coil can help reach awkward locations. SIP and Clarke describe coil options for these different tasks. Check the manufacturer’s compatibility information before using or buying a coil: a coil that suits the job but not the heater is not a usable option.

- [15-Second Bolt Heating] Heats bolts in 15s using electromagnetic fields to break rust and corrosion bonds for easy removal. Faster, cleaner, and more precise than oxy-acetylene torches – no messy cleanup.
- [8 Coils Included] Includes 2 DIY long coils that wrap around irregular iron parts, plus 6 fixed-size coils. Ideal for removing rusted bolts, heat treatment, and automotive repairs.
- [Fast & Targeted Heating] 1200W high-power induction heating delivers precise, targeted heat to conductive metals. Faster heating than traditional methods, without damaging surrounding parts.
- [Versatile Automotive & Mechanical Use] Perfect for automotive and mechanical work. Use it to loosen threaded nuts, remove rusty screws, or heat-treat small metal parts like gears and pulleys.
- [Less Fatigue, More Efficiency] Ergonomic non-slip handle for all-day comfort. Compact design reduces fatigue and keeps you working efficiently.
- Fastener access: Check that the coil can be positioned around or near the target without being blocked by surrounding parts.
- Work type: Match the coil style to a nut or bolt, sheet metal, decal, or hard-to-reach area.
- Included accessories: Compare which coils come with the kit and whether the manufacturer lists suitable additional coils for the task.
Compare models by fit and operating limits
Rated wattage alone does not establish which heater is best for a particular repair. Compare the fastener and access, compatible coil choices, power supply for your location, cooling approach, stated duty cycle and included accessories. Read the model’s manual before work; product pages may not provide every operating limit.
| Model | Manufacturer-stated details | What to check for the job |
|---|---|---|
| SIP 1500 W kit | SIP says the kit includes four coils and heats an M8 nut to 300°C in 60 seconds. This is a manufacturer claim, not an independent test result. SIP product page | Confirm coil fit, supply requirements and work/rest limits in the manual. |
| SIP 1200 W kit | SIP says it heats an M8 nut to 300°C in 120 seconds and recommends two minutes on, followed by two minutes off. These are manufacturer-stated figures. SIP product page | Follow this model’s duty cycle and confirm the supplied coil suits the fastener. |
| Clarke IT1500 | Clarke lists 1500 W input and coils for fasteners, decals and graphics, plus flexible or U-coil applications. Clarke notes specifications may change. Clarke product page | Check current specifications, supply, coil compatibility and manual limits. |
| Mini-Ductor II (MD-700) | Induction Innovations lists automotive uses including seized nuts, bolts, bearings and sensors. Induction Innovations product page | Confirm the particular application, compatible accessories and operating instructions. |
| Telwin Inductor 6000 Aqua | Telwin describes a liquid-cooled system with adjustable power for bolts, nuts, gears, joints and screws. Telwin product page | Check whether its cooling system, supply and equipment format fit your work. |
The listed heating times are not a head-to-head comparison: the sources do not establish a controlled test across these models. Treat each number as that manufacturer’s claim for its specified example, not as a promise for other fasteners, conditions or heaters.

Respect the model-specific duty cycle
A duty cycle sets how long a tool may operate before it needs a rest. The limits differ even between handheld models: the VS240 manual specifies two minutes on and five minutes off for that 1000 W heater, while SIP recommends two minutes on and two minutes off for its 1200 W kit. Follow the instructions for the exact model you are using; do not transfer one heater’s cycle to another.
The VS240 manual also says not to reuse bolts after heating. Treat that as a meaningful, model-specific caution and follow the instructions for your own heater and repair. Heating may affect a fastener, so do not assume a heated bolt remains suitable for reuse. Read the VS240 user manual.
