Labour Temple turns a former Seattle labor hall into a contemporary coworking and office venue, pairing preserved historic features with shared work areas, private offices, meeting rooms and event space. It reopened in 2022 after rehabilitation. Its documented features make it a distinctive adaptive-reuse project; available evidence does not establish that it objectively outperforms other Seattle coworking spaces.
A labor landmark adapted for a new use
At 2800 1st Avenue in Belltown, Labour Temple occupies the former Seattle Labor Temple. Historic Seattle says the building was a focal point for union organizing and activity in the county and was the last large functioning labor hall in Belltown. It became a City Landmark in 2008. Historic Seattle’s project history describes how labor groups moved farther from the neighborhood as the building faced deferred maintenance. The Seattle Labor Temple Association considered restoration or sale; FAUL purchased the original south building in December 2020, while a church bought the north addition.
The building welcomed its first office tenants in 2022 and reopened as Labour Temple. A 2023 sponsored post by the venue on GeekWire described the property as a three-story, 40,000-square-foot building and said its restoration focused on hybrid and in-person work. That sponsored post is the source for the size figure and the operator’s framing.
What the rehabilitation preserved and added
The project’s construction story is a balance of repair, retention and adaptation. Historic Seattle documents work on the brick and terra cotta façade, original steel windows, mahogany office doors and Labor Temple signs. Inside, the historic lobby, offices and corridors were retained or renovated, while building systems and the roof were upgraded. The project also activated a courtyard and added a rooftop terrace. Historic Seattle’s account of the project also notes meeting and event rooms and participation in the Belltown Art Walk.

How to decide whether it fits
- Choose occasional or recurring access by frequency: a day pass suits a one-off visit, while Startup or All Access is structured for repeat weekday use.
- Check the meeting-room economics: All Access includes $300 in monthly meeting-room credits, but the value depends on whether you will use those credits.
- Match privacy and team size: a dedicated desk, private office and team suite serve different needs; confirm availability and the full quoted cost directly.
- Separate mail needs from workspace needs: Virtual Office is the listed mail-and-address option; check its payment schedule and service terms before subscribing.
- Verify the practical details: confirm current prices, plan inclusions, hours, access arrangements and any day-pass terms with the venue before making a decision.
