Samsung’s AI Hybrid Cooling refrigerators are real, but the launch was in 2025—not 2026. Samsung announced the compressor-and-Peltier cooling system on December 19, 2024, showed it at CES 2025, and announced a broader global rollout on March 24, 2025. The technology now appears on selected Bespoke refrigerator models, with features, prices, and availability varying considerably by country and model.
The important distinction is that AI Hybrid Cooling is a cooling system. Samsung’s screens, food-recognition cameras, SmartThings controls, and Family Hub software are related smart-appliance features, not interchangeable names for the cooling technology.
What Samsung actually announced
Samsung’s original announcement described new refrigerators built around AI Hybrid Cooling, a system that combines a conventional compressor with a Peltier semiconductor cooling module. The products debuted publicly at CES 2025, followed by a broader rollout announcement covering selected four-door, French-door, and side-by-side models.
That means “Samsung unveils new refrigerators for 2025” describes a launch cycle rather than a new 2026 announcement. As of 2026, the products and technology are available in selected markets, but buyers must verify the exact model code and local specification sheet.

How AI Hybrid Cooling works
In plain English, the refrigerator does not replace its compressor with an AI-controlled semiconductor. Instead, it uses two cooling technologies for different demands:
- Normal cooling: The compressor handles ordinary refrigeration.
- Higher or anticipated demand: The Peltier module can provide supplemental cooling when the refrigerator detects or predicts a temperature increase.
- Predictive control: Samsung says an algorithm monitors usage and can anticipate a temperature rise of approximately five minutes from events such as loading groceries, cleaning, repeated door openings, or hot weather.
- Defrost management: Samsung’s Hybrid Precise Cooling feature is designed to reduce temperature swings during automatic defrost cycles.
A Peltier module cools through the temperature change created by electrical current and does not use refrigerant itself. The concept is similar to using an auxiliary motor in a hybrid vehicle: the primary system remains in place, while the secondary system assists when needed.
The CES Innovation Award listing also describes the compressor-plus-Peltier design as intended to improve cooling power, interior space, and energy optimization. An award, however, is not independent proof that the refrigerator will outperform every conventional model.
What benefits does Samsung claim?
More stable temperatures and freshness
Samsung says Hybrid Precise Cooling helps limit temperature fluctuations during defrosting by using residual heat from the Peltier module. The company cites testing in which pork lasted up to 1.4 times longer and salmon up to 1.2 times longer with the feature enabled.
Those are Samsung-reported test results, not a guaranteed extension of household food shelf life. Actual results depend on the food’s freshness at purchase, storage temperature, packaging, humidity, door openings, refrigerator cleanliness, and the food’s size and condition.
Selective energy management
Samsung says the system is designed to use the Peltier module selectively rather than continuously. The company also promotes an AI inverter compressor and AI Energy Mode through SmartThings.

- Zero Clearance Fit Installation
- AI Inverter Compressor With 10 Year Warranty
- All-Around Cooling
Samsung claims its AI inverter compressor has 4.1 times greater inertia than its conventional F3 compressor, based on internal testing. It also says AI Energy Mode can reduce energy consumption by up to an additional 10% under its stated comparison conditions.
That does not mean every AI Hybrid Cooling refrigerator will use less electricity in every home. Energy performance varies by model, climate, temperature settings, door-opening habits, connectivity, and whether the energy-saving mode is enabled. Samsung also warns that some precise-cooling functions can increase energy use in certain circumstances.
More interior capacity
For one refrigerator, Samsung claimed 900 liters of capacity, shelves up to 60 mm deeper, a 13.8% larger loadable area, and room for up to 240 beverage cans. These figures are model-specific and should not be applied to the entire Samsung range.
When comparing refrigerators, check total capacity as well as the refrigerator/freezer split, shelf depth, door-bin space, counter-depth design, and installation clearances. A larger published capacity does not automatically mean more convenient usable storage.
AI Hybrid Cooling is not the same as Samsung’s other AI features
Samsung uses “AI” across several different refrigerator functions. The exact feature set depends on the model and region.

Does the refrigerator need Wi-Fi?
The basic refrigeration hardware should still operate as an appliance without an internet connection. However, many connected features require:
- Wi-Fi;
- a Samsung account; and
- the SmartThings app for Android or iOS.
These requirements can apply to AI Energy Mode, SmartThings Energy, AI Home functions, recipes, food-management tools, and other connected services. Buyers who want a refrigerator that works with minimal software should treat these requirements as a significant consideration.
Which refrigerator designs received the technology?
Samsung’s global announcements referenced selected:
- four-door refrigerators;
- four-door French-door refrigerators;
- side-by-side refrigerators; and
- other regional Bespoke configurations.
AI Hybrid Cooling is not included across Samsung’s entire refrigerator catalog. Two refrigerators with similar “Bespoke AI” branding may have different cooling systems, displays, cameras, capacities, energy labels, warranties, or door designs.
U.S. model and price snapshot
The following are price signals observed on Samsung U.S. pages in August 2026. They may be promotional, unavailable by ZIP code, or changed since retrieval. They should not be treated as universal launch prices or proof that every listed model includes AI Hybrid Cooling.
| Model | Published details | Price signal observed | Buying caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| RF90F29AEWAA | 29 cu. ft.; AI Family Hub, AI Vision Inside, and Auto Open Door. | $3,299 sale price versus a displayed $4,699 comparison value. | Confirm cooling features, availability, and installation terms for your ZIP code. |
| RF29DB960012AA | 29 cu. ft.; Beverage Center, dual ice maker, Ice Bites, and Flex Zone. | $1,799 sale price versus a displayed $3,599 comparison value. | The Samsung page showed delivery and pickup unavailable at the time observed. |
| RF29DB9900QDAA | 29 cu. ft.; AI Family Hub and AI Vision Inside. | Price signals ranged from about $3,499 promotional pricing to $4,999. | The difference reflects changing page and promotion states, not a fixed price. |
| RF23DB9600QLAA | 23 cu. ft.; four-door Flex configuration and Beverage Center features. | $3,699 observed. | The linked Samsung page contains inconsistent capacity wording; use the model code and live specifications. |
For the RF29DB960012AA page, Samsung listed 704 kWh per year, a 17.4-cu.-ft. refrigerator compartment, and an 11.6-cu.-ft. freezer compartment. It also listed one year of general parts-and-labor coverage, five years of parts and labor for the sealed refrigeration system, and ten years of compressor parts coverage with five years of compressor labor. Component-specific warranties should not be confused with a full-appliance warranty.
Availability is highly regional
A model sold in the United States may not match one sold in Korea, Europe, or another market. Differences can include:
Rank #4

- installation requirements.
Check the exact model code on the local Samsung product page. Do not assume that a refrigerator with “AI,” “Bespoke,” “Family Hub,” or “Vision” in its name includes AI Hybrid Cooling.
Kitchen-fit and installation checklist
Samsung described a Kitchen Fit design requiring approximately 4 mm of side clearance and 20 mm of top clearance for certain configurations. Those figures are not a substitute for the installation guide for the exact model.
Before ordering, verify:
- Opening dimensions: Measure height, width, and depth, including trim and baseboards.
- Delivery path: Measure doors, hallways, stairs, elevators, and turns.
- Door swing: Confirm hinge-side clearance and whether doors can open fully beside walls or cabinets.
- Counter depth: Check whether the refrigerator will protrude and whether the published depth includes handles.
- Water connection: Confirm the water-line location and any required shutoff access.
- Ventilation: Follow the manufacturer’s required clearances.
- Auto Open Door placement: Account for walls, pets, children, door-bin loads, and sensor settings.
- Services: Confirm delivery, installation, leveling, haul-away, and return terms before checkout.
Samsung warns that Auto Open Door can activate unintentionally through contact from a person, child, or pet. It also does not necessarily close the refrigerator automatically, so it should not be treated as a substitute for checking that the door is sealed.

One important 2026 Bespoke ownership issue
Samsung’s U.S. product page for the RF90F29AEWAA states that changeable panels for Bespoke AI refrigerators would no longer be available beginning July 1, 2026. Buyers choosing a Bespoke refrigerator for long-term panel customization should confirm current replacement-panel availability rather than assuming that the feature will remain supported indefinitely.
Who should buy an AI Hybrid Cooling refrigerator?
It may make sense if you:
- care about temperature stability and food preservation;
- have confirmed that the exact model includes AI Hybrid Cooling;
- will use SmartThings, energy controls, recipes, food management, or Family Hub;
- are comfortable with a premium appliance and connected-device account; and
- can obtain suitable delivery, installation, and service support.
A conventional refrigerator may be better if you:
- want simple refrigeration with minimal software;
- will not use a screen, camera, recipes, or voice controls;
- have difficult clearance or delivery conditions;
- are concerned about electronics and connected-service dependence; or
- would pay a large premium for features that do not solve a real household problem.
For a cooling-focused purchase, compare the exact cooling specification, Energy Guide label, storage layout, ice-maker design, warranty, and service network. For a smart-home purchase, separately evaluate screen usefulness, camera limitations, account requirements, language support, software support, and privacy preferences.
Bottom line
Samsung’s AI Hybrid Cooling is a technically distinctive compressor-and-Peltier design intended to respond more precisely to changing cooling demands. Samsung reports benefits for temperature stability, freshness testing, energy management, and interior space, but those claims are model-specific and primarily based on Samsung’s own or commissioned testing.
The safest buying rule is simple: evaluate the exact refrigerator model, not the “AI” label. Confirm that AI Hybrid Cooling is explicitly listed, then compare capacity, energy use, installation fit, warranty coverage, current price, service availability, and whether the smart features are genuinely useful to your household.
