If your Samsung washer leaves water in the drum, first check that the machine is level and the drain hose is undamaged and installed as your model’s manual specifies. If the washer has an emergency drain hose, you can drain the standing water safely before cleaning its filter—but not every Samsung washer has that hose or a removable filter. Follow the manual for your exact model; the instructions and measurements below are not universal.
Start with your model’s manual
Find the washer’s model number and consult its user manual before opening a panel or removing a part. Samsung’s guidance varies by market and model: its UK guide says the instructions may not apply to all models, and some older front-loaders lack a pump filter or emergency drain hose. Samsung says its top-load washers do not have a removable pump filter. Do not force open an access panel or try to remove a component the manual does not identify. Check the installation and drain hose
Turn the washer off before inspecting it. Confirm that it sits level, then look along the drain hose for kinks, visible damage or an obstruction. Check that the hose is routed, inserted and positioned as described in your model’s manual; an airtight seal or incorrect installation can interfere with draining. US hose measurements are not universal
For US readers, Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance specifies inserting the drain hose 6–8 inches, placing it at least 18 inches high (24 inches for a wash basin), and not exceeding 96 inches (35 inches for a wash basin). Samsung also says not to use an extension kit. These are US instructions, not a standard for every Samsung washer or market. Drain standing water if your washer has an emergency hose
Only follow this procedure if the manual for your washer shows an emergency drain hose and explains how to access it. Water left after a high-temperature cycle may be hot, so let it cool before draining. Unplug the washer as directed by the model instructions. Have towels and a shallow container ready beneath the access area; drain slowly and be prepared to empty or swap the container as it fills. Clean the filter only if your model has one
After draining the water, use the manual’s procedure to remove and clean the filter. Samsung’s guidance describes cleaning it with a soft-bristle brush and checking that the pump impeller is unobstructed. Do not treat a filter as the cause of every drainage problem, and do not attempt this step if your manual does not identify an accessible removable filter. When cleaning is complete, reinstall the filter and secure the emergency-hose cap as your manual directs. An improperly seated filter or cap can lead to leaks or operating problems. Towels, a water-collection container and a small soft-bristle brush are useful supplies if the model’s procedure calls for them; no branded kit is necessary. Once the hose, filter and any cap are back in place, run a test cycle. If the washer still does not drain after the model-appropriate checks, contact Samsung support or arrange service.
