Check the complete model number against the recall list for the country where the range was sold. If it is listed, Samsung’s U.S. remedy is a free, model-compatible knob lock or cover. Until it is installed, keep the cooktop clear, keep children and pets away from the controls, and confirm every knob is off before leaving home or going to bed.
What the August 2024 Samsung range recall covers
On August 8, 2024, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Samsung Electronics America announced a voluntary recall of certain Samsung slide-in electric ranges with front-mounted knobs. A person or pet can bump a knob and turn on a burner; if something on the cooktop catches fire, the result can be a house fire. The CPSC classified the remedy as a repair. The U.S. recall covers about 1,120,905 ranges sold from May 2013 through August 2024 at Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, other appliance stores, and Samsung.com. The CPSC says prices varied by model from $1,250 to $3,050. Its recall notice reports more than 300 unintentional-activation incidents since 2013, approximately 250 fires, at least 18 fires with extensive property damage, approximately 40 injuries (eight requiring medical attention), and seven fires involving pet deaths. These are figures reported by the CPSC in the U.S. recall notice, not current totals or a combined U.S.-Canada count.

Compare the complete model identifier, including its suffix, with the official list for the market where the appliance was sold. A similar-looking model or a shared model prefix is not enough to establish that your range is included.

Where to find the model label
Look inside the upper-left corner of the oven door or inside the lower storage drawer or bin. Read the full identifier carefully, then compare it character by character with the relevant country list.
What to do if your range is listed
U.S.: request Samsung’s free knob kit
For a listed U.S. range, contact Samsung to request the free set of knob locks or covers compatible with your model. Samsung says the remedy depends on the model. Contact Samsung at 833-775-0120 (9 a.m.–8 p.m. Eastern, Monday–Friday), email [email protected], or use Samsung’s range knob kit support page. Follow Samsung’s model-specific directions for the kit and installation.

Canada: follow the Canadian notice
Canadian owners should use the Samsung Canada contact route in Health Canada’s notice; its listed telephone service hours differ from the U.S. hours above. Canadian law prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold, or given away in Canada.
Precautions while waiting for the remedy
- Keep children and pets away from the range knobs.
- Check that every knob is off before leaving home or going to bed.
- Keep the cooktop clear whenever the range is not in use. The CPSC’s notice states: “Never place, leave, or store anything on the top of your range.”
- If your affected range is Wi-Fi enabled, turn on the “Cooktop On” SmartThings alert so your phone can notify you when a burner is activated.
Samsung said consumers may continue using their slide-in ranges while waiting for the kit, while warning them to watch for accidental activation and to leave nothing on the cooktop when it is not in use. The CPSC’s separate precautions above remain important while awaiting the remedy.
