There is no single best central vacuum for every home. The right choice depends on whether you need a complete installation or only a replacement power unit, plus your home’s size and layout, flooring, existing inlet and wiring configuration, filtration preference, and attachment needs. The models below are manufacturer- or seller-listed examples—not independently tested rankings—so use them to narrow a fit, then confirm compatibility before buying.
Start by deciding what you need to buy
A central vacuum system is not just its power unit. A complete installation includes tubing and wall inlets; the cleaning setup also needs a compatible hose and tools. If your home already has in-wall piping, replacing the power unit is a different purchase from installing a new system.

- New build or retrofit: Plan for tubing routes, inlet locations and installation work as well as the power unit. The unit’s coverage claim does not establish that a particular layout will clean effectively.
- Existing system: Identify the old unit and the installed connections before ordering a replacement. A physically similar unit is not necessarily compatible.
- Tools and hose: Determine whether you need only a power unit or also a hose and attachment kit. Broan-NuTone lists separate hose and powered-tool attachment sets in its NuTone CVAC catalog.
What to compare before choosing a model
Air watts alone cannot settle the choice. Match the unit to the home and the system around it, and treat advertised coverage, sound and warranty figures as claims with specific terms rather than universal measures.

- Flooring and powerhead: Decide whether you need suction-only tools for bare floors, an air-driven/turbine tool, or an electrically powered carpet tool. Check that the hose, inlet and powerhead support the configuration.
- Existing connections: Confirm voltage, pipe connection, inlet style, electrical/control wiring and powerhead setup. If any detail is uncertain, use the manufacturer’s manual or ask a qualified installer to verify the match.
- Collection and filtration: Choose among bagged, bagless or hybrid maintenance arrangements, then verify the model’s exact bag and filter requirements in its manual.
- Installation space and service: Check the unit’s dimensions and location, and whether compatible parts and service are accessible where you live.
- Warranty scope: Compare parts and labor separately, and read exclusions, maintenance conditions and shipping responsibilities rather than comparing headline duration alone.
Manufacturer- and seller-listed power-unit examples
This comparison is a shortlist of published specifications, not a set of review winners. Broan-NuTone figures come from its official NuTone CVAC catalog, an undated PDF accessed in 2026. CentVac figures are listings on its power-units page. Coverage, filtration and noise figures are vendor claims; the sources do not establish a common independent test or directly comparable measurement method.

Broan-NuTone also describes a disposable bag replacement interval of approximately six months for the applicable bagged unit; check the catalog and model manual for applicability and care requirements. The listed sound numbers should not be treated as a like-for-like ranking. In its dated 05/19 product sheet for the BQ700/BQ650/BQ550, Broan-NuTone says: “Central vacuum manufacturers’ sound testing methods can vary greatly as do the decibel claims for their products.” It says those Broan products are tested in accordance with ASTM F1334-02; that statement does not establish the test method for the other models in this table. Which option may suit your situation?
For a large home
Begin with the layout and inlet plan, then use manufacturer-stated coverage only as a screening figure. The PP7001’s catalog range is 2,500–10,000 sq. ft.; CentVac lists the EOV M715H for up to 10,000 sq. ft. Those claims do not prove either unit is the best choice for a particular large home. Confirm compatibility, tool requirements and installation conditions with the manufacturer or installer.

For a replacement power unit
Prioritize a verified match to the installed piping, inlet, voltage and control wiring over a larger headline air-watt number. Ask the manufacturer or a qualified installer to confirm the replacement works with the existing hose and powerhead before you order.

For bare floors or carpet
Match the tools to your floors. Bare-floor cleaning may call for a suction-only setup; carpet can require an air-driven/turbine or electrically powered tool. Broan-NuTone’s catalog distinguishes bare-floor kits from powered carpet-and-floor attachment kits. Confirm inlet and electrical compatibility before choosing a kit.

Filtration and collection: compare the air path and upkeep
Bagged, bagless and hybrid systems differ in how debris is collected and what maintenance the owner must perform. Use the specific model manual to check filter and bag requirements, replacement intervals and correct operation.
Broan-NuTone states that its sealed HEPA models remove up to 99.97% of dust and allergen microparticles down to 0.3 micron. This is a manufacturer filtration claim; it does not establish a clinical health benefit or the performance of the complete installed system. Warranty conditions can also depend on filtration: CentralVac says on its support page that operating certain covered systems without proper filtration bags can void coverage.

Read the warranty terms, not just the headline
Warranty lengths in the table are model-specific Broan-NuTone catalog terms. They should not be equated with a different company’s limited warranty, whose coverage and costs may be structured differently.
CentralVac’s support page describes a seven-year limited power-unit warranty and says disposable bags, filters, motor-brush replacement and physical installation are excluded; the owner is responsible for return shipping. It separately describes a lifetime limited warranty under which qualifying repairs or replacements may cost up to 50% of the current published retail price, subject to other limitations. Read the full applicable terms at CentralVac support before purchase; these provisions are not universal central-vacuum warranty rules.

Before ordering or installing
- Record the existing setup, if any: Note the old unit’s model, voltage, pipe connection, inlet style, control wiring and powerhead arrangement.
- Choose the cleaning configuration: Specify bare-floor, turbine or powered carpet tools, and whether you need a hose and attachments or only the power unit.
- Confirm the match: Check manufacturer manuals or have a qualified installer verify the unit and tools against the installed system.
- Plan the installation scope: For a new build or retrofit, account separately for tubing, inlet placement and installation work.
- Check maintenance and warranty conditions: Verify the correct bags or filters, service access, exclusions and any shipping or labor responsibilities.
