Its most visible feature is an upgraded AI Vision system in select Family Hub refrigerators, which Samsung says can recognize a wider range of fresh and packaged foods using cloud intelligence and Google Gemini-related capabilities. Bixby voice control and SmartThings add recipe suggestions, remote monitoring and appliance coordination.
The practical qualification is important: these features vary by model, region, language and software version. Food recognition can be incomplete or wrong, and many connected functions require Wi-Fi, a Samsung account and compatible appliances.

What Samsung announced
Samsung presented its 2026 kitchen lineup at KBIS 2026 in Orlando from February 17–19. The announcement covered several product categories rather than a single refrigerator launch:
- Bespoke AI refrigerators: updated Family Hub models, new three-door French Door refrigerators and zero-clearance-fit designs.
- Cooking appliances: Smart Slide-in Ranges, induction and gas variants, ovens and over-the-range microwaves.
- Cleaning appliances: Bespoke AI dishwashers.
- Connected services: SmartThings monitoring and control, Bixby voice interaction and Home Appliance Remote Management for monitoring, diagnosis and support.
- Dacor products: premium wine storage and concealed-kitchen designs shown alongside the Bespoke range.
Samsung said its new U.S. Bespoke AI kitchen appliances became available through Samsung.com and select nationwide retailers on April 9, 2026. Availability, pricing and configurations are model-specific, so the exact model number matters more than the broad “Bespoke AI” label. See Samsung’s U.S. availability announcement for the current product context.

The Family Hub refrigerator remains the centerpiece
Family Hub refrigerators combine a large touchscreen with cameras, recipe features, shopping and household-management tools. The 2026 upgrade focuses on AI Vision, a camera-based system intended to identify food inside the refrigerator, maintain ingredient lists and help generate meal or recipe suggestions.
Samsung previously described AI Vision as recognizing up to 37 types of fresh food and up to 50 user-registered packaged-food items. For the newer system, Samsung says Google Gemini and cloud intelligence expand recognition to more packaged products and regionally specific ingredients. Samsung also announced plans to recognize some processed foods without separate manual registration and to identify user-labeled food stored in personal containers. Those are announced capabilities, not a guarantee that every supported item will be recognized correctly in every kitchen.
The system can be useful for a household that routinely forgets what it has bought. It may reduce the effort of maintaining an ingredient list and make recipe discovery easier. It should not be treated as a complete grocery database, expiration tracker or food-safety system.
What AI Vision can—and cannot—recognize
Camera-based recognition depends on what the refrigerator can see and what the software supports. Samsung’s product information and launch materials identify several limitations:
- Food in the door bins or freezer may not be identified by the earlier system.
- Hands, packaging, containers or crowded shelves can block the camera’s view.
- Unrecognized items may appear as “unknown”.
- Recognition can be incomplete or inaccurate, requiring manual correction.
- Packaged-food support may depend on registration, packaging and the specific model.
- Capabilities vary by device, country, language and software version.
For allergy management, strict dietary requirements or reliable expiration control, verify the refrigerator’s list manually rather than relying on AI Vision. Samsung’s product documentation also describes earlier recognition limits and the need for connected services.
What Bixby adds
Bixby lets users control compatible appliance functions by voice and ask kitchen-related questions, including requests for recipe suggestions based on available ingredients. The 2026 update adds improved voice recognition and personalized responses through Voice ID and Now Brief-style widgets. Depending on the supported model and account setup, these may include reminders, calendar information and other personalized content.
This is an assistant, not an autonomous chef. Users still need to check ingredient lists, recipes, cooking temperatures and appliance settings. Voice features can also vary by language, dialect, country, operating system and software version.

How SmartThings connects the kitchen
SmartThings is the connective layer across Samsung’s compatible appliances. Depending on the model, it can let users:
- Monitor appliance status remotely.
- Review or adjust certain settings.
- Receive maintenance and status alerts.
- Track energy use.
- Connect recipes and cooking settings with compatible Samsung ranges, ovens, cooktops and microwaves.
- Manage multiple appliances from a phone.
“Works with SmartThings” does not mean every appliance exposes the same controls. Wi-Fi, the SmartThings app and a Samsung account are required for the cited connected functions, and compatibility depends on the appliance and market. Without Wi-Fi, core refrigeration and cooking functions may continue, but remote monitoring and some AI services may not.
The new hardware
Three-door French Door refrigerators
The new Bespoke AI three-door French Door models add additional refrigerator configurations, including zero-clearance-fit designs intended to sit more closely within certain kitchen layouts. Clearance requirements still need to be checked against the exact installation instructions; “zero clearance” does not eliminate the need to verify ventilation, door swing and surrounding cabinetry.
Smart Slide-in Ranges
Samsung’s new Smart Slide-in Ranges include gas, induction and other configurations. The announced gas models include a burner rated at up to 23,000 BTU. Buyers must confirm whether a specific model requires gas, induction or electric service and whether the existing kitchen has the correct connection, ventilation and dimensions.

- WiFi CONNECTIVITY: Wi-Fi connectivity on your fridge isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s essential for safety and energy conservation. You’ll get immediate notifications if the temperature drops due to a power outage or if you accidentally leave the door open.
Ovens, microwaves and dishwashers
Samsung also showed connected ovens, over-the-range microwaves and Bespoke AI dishwashers. Their controls and integrations differ by model. A recipe that can send settings to one compatible oven, for example, should not be assumed to work with every Samsung cooking appliance.
AutoView refrigerators
Samsung said additional AutoView glass-door refrigerator models would arrive later in 2026. A product shown or announced for a later release should not be treated as currently available without checking Samsung’s current U.S. listing.

Dacor is Samsung’s premium built-in kitchen brand, not simply another Bespoke product tier. At KBIS, Samsung highlighted a 24-inch Undercounter Wine Cellar, a Wine Column and a Built-in Wine Dispenser that holds up to four bottles with dual temperature zones. It also showed concealed or “hidden kitchen” concepts incorporating a refrigerator, cooktop and dishwasher.
These products are aimed at luxury kitchen projects and built-in installations. The KBIS presentation does not establish that every displayed Dacor concept is broadly available nationwide, and it does not provide a universal price. Buyers should check Dacor’s official site or an authorized showroom for the exact product and installation requirements.

Samsung’s 2026 timeline
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| February 17–19, 2026 | Samsung showcased Bespoke AI and Dacor kitchen products at KBIS in Orlando. |
| April 9, 2026 | Samsung announced U.S. retail availability for new Bespoke AI kitchen appliances through Samsung.com and select retailers. |
| May 11, 2026 | A software update began rolling out to select U.S. Bespoke AI refrigerators with 32-inch Family Hub screens. |
| During 2026 | Samsung said the update and additional model support would expand in phases. |
The refrigerator update matters because some existing owners may receive expanded AI Vision, smarter Bixby voice control and personalized Now Brief widgets without buying a new refrigerator. It is limited to select 32-inch Family Hub models and regions; it is not an update for every Samsung smart refrigerator. Samsung describes the rollout in its U.S. announcement.
Is the AI worth paying for?
It may be worthwhile for households already committed to Samsung’s ecosystem, but AI alone is not a strong reason to choose an appliance.
It could make sense if you:
- Already use Samsung phones, TVs or SmartThings devices.
- Want a shared kitchen screen for recipes, notes and calendars.
- Frequently forget what is in the refrigerator.
- Value remote status alerts and appliance monitoring.
- Are remodeling and want coordinated Samsung appliances.
- Accept account setup, Wi-Fi dependence and occasional manual correction.
Consider simpler alternatives if you:
- Want the lowest-cost refrigerator, range or dishwasher.
- Prefer appliances that work fully offline.
- Dislike cameras, microphones, cloud processing or account requirements.
- Have unreliable Wi-Fi or a kitchen layout that blocks refrigerator cameras.
- Expect inventory recognition to be complete and consistently accurate.
- Live in a market or use a language not fully supported by the feature.
A standard refrigerator plus a phone or tablet for recipes may provide many of the practical benefits without putting a screen, camera and microphone into the refrigerator. Conversely, the value of SmartThings increases when several compatible appliances are installed together.
Privacy, installation and ownership checks
Samsung’s announcements alone do not establish the complete data-retention or processing policy for every AI feature. Before buying, review the applicable Samsung privacy documentation and determine which functions process information locally and which depend on cloud services. If you are uncomfortable with voice or camera features, check whether they can be disabled without affecting basic appliance operation.

For a kitchen remodel, also consider the non-AI details that often matter more over the appliance’s life:
- Exact dimensions, cabinet depth and door-swing clearance.
- Gas, electrical and ventilation requirements.
- Delivery, installation, haul-away and possible conversion costs.
- Warranty terms, local service coverage and replacement-part availability.
- Whether the exact model supports Family Hub, AI Vision, SmartThings and the promised software update.
- Whether the feature is available in your country and preferred language.
- Whether the retailer is authorized and whether the listing identifies the full model number.
Bottom line
Samsung’s 2026 Bespoke AI strategy is broader than a marketing screen on one refrigerator. It combines expanded food recognition, voice interaction and connected appliance control across a growing kitchen ecosystem. The most tangible upgrade is AI Vision on select Family Hub refrigerators, while the new refrigerator, range, oven and dishwasher designs address kitchen layout and coordinated installation.
But the technology remains assistive. Recognition can fail, some refrigerator areas may be excluded, and advanced features depend on compatible hardware, accounts, Wi-Fi, software and regional support. Choose the appliance for its capacity, fit, cooking performance, serviceability and price first; treat the AI as a useful extra only after confirming that your specific model supports the functions you actually want.
