Check the machine’s exact model and serial number through RYOBI or TTI Outdoor Power Equipment, then request the free official repair kit if your unit is included.
Stop using the washer first
If you own a RYOBI brushless electric pressure washer with model number RY142300, RY142300VNM, or RY142711VNM, stop using it until you check the model and serial number. Some of these machines were recalled because a capacitor can overheat and burst, ejecting parts toward the operator or nearby people.

On August 28, 2025, TTI Outdoor Power Equipment recalled approximately 764,000 units in the United States and approximately 16,000 additional units in Canada. The official remedy is a free repair kit—not safety glasses, a replacement hose, or a generic capacitor purchased separately.

The recall covers certain green brushless electric pressure washers with a spray nozzle, a detergent tank with a blue cap, and accessory storage. The affected models are:

A model-number match alone does not prove that a machine is recalled. You must also compare its complete serial number with the applicable range or verify it through RYOBI’s official recall checker.

Serial numbers can be difficult to read, so record every letter and number carefully. Do not omit leading characters, substitute similar-looking letters and numbers, or rely on an abbreviated serial number from a retailer receipt.

How to check whether your RYOBI pressure washer is recalled
- Unplug the pressure washer and stop using it. Do this before checking the recall, particularly if the machine is one of the three listed models.
- Locate the data label. RYOBI’s recall-check guidance identifies the underside of the tool, while the U.S. safety notice describes the data plate as being on the side of the motor housing. Inspect the underside and motor-housing area rather than assuming it is in only one location.
- Write down the exact model and serial number. Photographing the label can help prevent transcription errors.
- Use RYOBI’s official recall checker. The checker uses a model-number selection and serial-number verification process. Use the official RYOBI recall page or recall-support route rather than an old retailer listing, marketplace description, or an unverified social-media post.
- Contact recall support if the result is unclear. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission lists TTI Outdoor Power Equipment at 800-597-9624, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
If the checker confirms that your unit is included, do not operate it while waiting for the remedy. If you cannot read the label or your serial number appears close to—but not clearly inside—a listed range, treat the machine as unsafe to use until RYOBI or TTI confirms its status.
Why was the RYOBI pressure washer recalled?
The capacitor can overheat and burst. A burst capacitor can forcefully eject components, creating a projectile and impact hazard for the person operating the pressure washer and anyone nearby.

The reported problem is more serious than a pressure washer that simply loses power or performs poorly. The CPSC reported 135 overheating reports, including 41 explosions, and 32 injuries or fractures involving fingers, hands, faces, and eyes.
A unit that has operated normally is not necessarily safe. The recall exists because the hazardous failure can occur later; the absence of an earlier incident does not clear a machine.
What is the recall remedy?
Owners of confirmed affected units can request a free repair kit. The kit includes:
- a replacement capacitor;
- shipping; and
- installation instructions.
According to the recall information from the CPSC and Health Canada, proof of purchase is not required. Follow the official claim process and use the instructions supplied with the kit. RYOBI also provides a capacitor-repair instructional video for the affected 2300 PSI and 2700 PSI models.
Can you install the repair yourself?
The official remedy materials include installation instructions, but the article’s safety advice is not to improvise. Do not install a capacitor obtained from a marketplace or generic parts seller simply because its electrical specifications appear similar. The recall kit and official instructions are the verified remedy for the recalled configuration.

If you are not comfortable working on electrical equipment, ask RYOBI or TTI how to obtain appropriate service instead of opening the machine and experimenting. Keep the pressure washer unplugged until the approved repair has been completed or the manufacturer gives you different instructions.

The affected units were sold at Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores nationwide and online from approximately July 2017 through June 2024. The reported price was approximately $300 to $400.
Retailer, purchase date, and appearance can help you identify a machine, but they do not replace the model-and-serial-number check. A pressure washer bought secondhand, received as a gift, or purchased online can still be included.
Canadian owners: do not use the U.S. ranges as a substitute
The Canadian recall notice uses country-specific serial-number ranges that differ from the U.S. ranges, including differences in prefixes and endpoints. If the machine is in Canada, use the Canadian recall notice or contact TTI Outdoor Power Equipment directly. Do not conclude that a Canadian unit is safe merely because its serial number does not fit one of the U.S. ranges.
Health Canada also states that recalled products must not be redistributed, sold, or gifted in Canada. In practical terms, do not pass an affected pressure washer to a friend, list it online, or return it to circulation while waiting for a remedy.

What not to do
- Do not keep using the machine because it has not failed yet. The capacitor hazard can occur without a prior warning.
- Do not treat protective equipment as a repair. Goggles, gloves, or other accessories do not eliminate the burst-capacitor hazard.
- Do not install a generic capacitor. Use the official recall kit and instructions or obtain appropriate service.
- Do not assume a hose, nozzle, trigger handle, pump protector, or surface cleaner addresses the defect. Those items do not repair the capacitor problem.
- Do not rely on a retailer listing or marketplace description. Verify the actual model and serial number on the machine.
- Do not sell, give away, or redistribute the unit. This is specifically prohibited for recalled products in Canada and is unsafe anywhere while the unit’s status or remedy is unresolved.
What if the machine is not in the listed ranges?
If the official checker confirms that the model and serial number are not included, the 2025 pressure-washer recall does not identify that particular unit as affected. Keep the confirmation for your records if one is provided, and continue to follow the operating and maintenance instructions for your model.
RYOBI’s recall notices page contains multiple historical recalls involving other products, including mowers, hedge trimmers, blowers, snow blowers, chargers, batteries, and sanders. Those notices are separate. Do not apply this pressure-washer serial-number list to another RYOBI product, and do not combine unrelated recalls with this one.

A new pressure washer is not required to resolve this recall. First verify the existing unit and obtain the free remedy if it is included. Only after that process is complete should you compare a replacement machine or accessories for a different project or capacity requirement.
For a future purchase, compare pressure rating, flow rate, electrical requirements, hose and connector compatibility, storage, and the manufacturer’s current safety notices. Retail catalogs may show other RYOBI pressure washers and accessories, but a catalog listing is not evidence that a product is an approved recall remedy or compatible with the recalled unit.
