Yes—but it is not available to buy yet. Roborock demonstrated a Saros Rover prototype at CES 2026 climbing stairs and cleaning individual steps. The machine uses independently adjustable wheel-legs rather than the fixed-wheel chassis found on ordinary robot vacuums. As of August 18, 2026, Roborock still describes Saros Rover as a product in development with no confirmed launch date, price, retail listing, or published final consumer specifications.

What is the Roborock Saros Rover?

Saros Rover is a stair-climbing robot vacuum that Roborock publicly unveiled at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. Roborock later showed the machine again at a May 2026 event in Tokyo, but those appearances did not constitute a commercial launch.

Roborock calls Saros Rover the world’s first robot vacuum using a two-wheel-leg architecture. That superlative should be treated as the company’s description, not as an independently verified industry finding. The important distinction is that this is more than a concept shown only in a render: Roborock demonstrated a working prototype moving up and down stairs.

However, a demonstrated prototype is not the same as a finished appliance. Roborock continues to describe Saros Rover as being in development, and its launch date remains unconfirmed. There is currently no verified price, preorder, official checkout page, shipping date, or confirmed US availability.

Roborock’s CES announcement is the primary source for the product’s design and current status.

How the wheel-leg system works

A conventional robot vacuum rolls across a relatively flat floor. Its wheels can usually cope with small thresholds, but a normal staircase presents a sequence of tall vertical rises and narrow horizontal treads. Saros Rover is designed to solve that problem by replacing the usual fixed-wheel arrangement with two wheel-legs.

According to Roborock, each wheel-leg can raise and lower independently. This gives the robot additional reach and lift as it moves from one tread to the next. The body is intended to remain level while the terrain changes, rather than pitching sharply at every step.

Roborock says movement is coordinated through AI algorithms, motion sensors, and three-dimensional spatial information. The company also says the system can make small jumps, turn quickly, stop, and change direction. “Walking” is a useful shorthand for the movement, but Saros Rover is not a conventional four-legged robot: its published design is a two-wheel-leg architecture.

Does Saros Rover really clean the stairs?

Roborock says it does. The company’s announcements describe Saros Rover cleaning each stair step as it travels between floors. The Taiwanese announcement specifically describes the prototype cleaning while ascending and descending.

What was demonstrated, therefore, was not merely a robot detecting stairs or climbing them without a vacuum function. Roborock presented the machine moving over the steps while performing cleaning operations.

That claim still needs to be separated from what has actually been established. The available material does not provide independent laboratory measurements or consumer testing showing:

  • How much dust, hair, and debris it removes from each tread.
  • Whether it reaches stair edges, inside corners, and the area around the nosing.
  • How well it handles pet hair embedded in carpet.
  • Whether it cleans vertical risers, rather than only horizontal tread surfaces.
  • How it performs over a complete household staircase instead of a controlled demonstration course.
  • How consistently it repeats the task without supervision.

So the accurate conclusion is that Roborock demonstrated stair cleaning and claims step-by-step cleaning. It has not yet established that the production model will clean every part of every staircase to the standard homeowners expect from manual vacuuming.

What types of stairs might it handle?

Roborock has publicly mentioned conventional stairs, curved staircases, slopes, complex multilevel thresholds, and carpeted stairs with bullnose fronts. Those claims suggest that the mechanism is intended for more than one rigid, straight staircase design.

They should not be interpreted as a guarantee that Saros Rover will handle every stairwell. Important compatibility questions remain for:

  • Open-riser or floating stairs.
  • Very narrow, unusually deep, or unusually shallow treads.
  • Spiral stairs and sharply curved flights.
  • Polished, wet, dusty, or slippery surfaces.
  • Loose runners, unsecured rugs, or carpet transitions.
  • Stairs with unusual nosing geometry.
  • Railings, posts, toys, pet bowls, and other obstructions.
  • Landings that do not provide enough space for the robot to turn.

These are engineering questions to verify against a final manual and operating specification, not confirmed Saros Rover failures. The final product may impose minimum tread dimensions, maximum angles, surface restrictions, or requirements for a landing or nearby wall.

Is Saros Rover safe to use unattended?

There is not enough first-party information to answer that confidently. The available announcements do not establish a consumer safety certification, final operating envelope, fall-protection specification, or production user manual.

A controlled demonstration shows that the prototype can navigate a particular setup. It does not prove that a production unit can safely be left alone around children, pets, open stair edges, or unexpected objects. Before treating Saros Rover as an unattended appliance, buyers would need clear answers to questions such as:

  • What happens if one wheel-leg loses traction?
  • Can the robot detect an open riser or a missing section of tread?
  • How does it prevent a sideways fall?
  • Can it stop safely when a person or pet enters its path?
  • What happens during low battery, sensor failure, or a software fault?
  • Can it recover from a failed ascent or descent?
  • Can owners mark particular stairs or conditions as no-go zones?
  • Is the demonstration hardware representative of the final production design?

Until Roborock publishes those details and independent reviewers test the finished appliance, the sensible position is that Saros Rover has demonstrated controlled stair navigation, while unattended real-world reliability remains unverified.

Is Roborock Saros Rover available to buy?

No—not according to the available information as of August 18, 2026. Roborock’s own announcement still identifies Saros Rover as a product in development and says its launch date is unconfirmed.

There is no verified:

  • Retail price.
  • Preorder page.
  • Official Saros Rover checkout listing.
  • Shipping date.
  • US retail availability.
  • Final consumer specification sheet.

The May 2026 Tokyo event showed Saros Rover as part of a demonstration lineup, but displaying a prototype at an event should not be confused with launching a product for sale. Readers should be cautious of listings or advertisements that imply Saros Rover is already shipping.

Roborock’s Tokyo event announcement confirms the later display, but not a retail release.

Why threshold climbing is not stair climbing

Roborock describes the Saros 20’s AdaptiLift Chassis 3.0 as capable of crossing a single threshold up to 4.5 cm and a double-layer threshold measuring 4.5 cm plus 4 cm. That is useful for transitions between rooms, raised floor sections, and similar obstacles.

It is not a specification for climbing a staircase. A threshold is a single floor transition; a staircase requires repeated changes in height, reliable positioning on narrow treads, controlled turning, and protection against falls. Treating the Saros 20’s threshold figures as evidence that it can clean stairs would be misleading.

What can homeowners buy now?

Homeowners who need automated cleaning today still need to separate flat-floor automation from stair cleaning. A conventional robot vacuum can clean a floor on the level where it is operating, but it generally cannot carry itself up a staircase. A multistory home may require a robot on each floor, manual relocation of the robot, or a separate vacuum for the stairs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Saros 20 may suit a large home that needs premium flat-floor vacuuming and mopping with improved threshold crossing, but it should not be purchased as a stair cleaner. Its dock, charging, dustbin, water, and floor-access arrangements also need to be considered if the home has multiple levels.

The Saros 10 is another conventional floor-cleaning option. The official US store previously displayed a price signal of $1,299.99 against a $1,599.99 list price, but prices and promotions change and should be checked again before purchase. The same listing indicated free delivery, free returns, a one-year limited warranty, and 30-day price protection at the time captured; buyers should confirm the current terms at checkout.

Neither model replaces a handheld, stick, or canister vacuum for stair treads, risers, corners, railings, and other areas a floor robot cannot reach. A separate stair-cleaning vacuum remains the practical solution until Saros Rover becomes a real retail product and passes independent testing.

What must be confirmed before Saros Rover is a serious purchase?

A useful production model would need to prove more than the ability to climb a short demonstration staircase. Buyers should look for evidence of:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Reliable ascent and descent: repeated operation over complete household staircases.
  2. Actual tread coverage: cleaning along edges, corners, nosings, and different materials.
  3. Surface compatibility: stable performance on wood, tile, carpet, mixed surfaces, and bullnose edges.
  4. Open-edge safety: reliable handling of open risers and stair boundaries.
  5. Obstacle recognition: safe behavior around toys, pet hair, bowls, cables, railings, and people.
  6. Battery endurance: enough capacity for multiple floors without becoming stranded mid-flight.
  7. Docking strategy: a workable plan for charging, emptying dust, refilling water, and washing or drying mops across multiple levels.
  8. Recovery: a safe response when the robot cannot continue or needs assistance.
  9. Noise and speed: acceptable operation in living spaces rather than merely successful movement.
  10. Durability and support: clear warranty coverage, replacement parts, and repair options for a more complicated wheel-leg mechanism.

The unusual mechanism may also bring trade-offs. More moving parts can mean higher cost, additional maintenance, more opportunities for hair or debris to jam a joint, and potentially slower movement on ordinary floors. Cleaning a tread does not automatically mean cleaning the vertical riser or the underside of a bullnose edge. A robot that can change floors also still needs a practical way to recharge and service itself.

Verdict

Roborock’s Saros Rover is real, and Roborock demonstrated a prototype climbing stairs while cleaning individual steps. Its two-wheel-leg architecture is a meaningful departure from ordinary robot vacuums, and the company says it is intended for traditional, curved, sloped, and some carpeted bullnose stairs.

But it remains a development product. As of August 18, 2026, there is no confirmed launch date, price, retail listing, or independent evidence proving long-term cleaning performance and unattended safety. It is best understood as a promising stair-cleaning prototype—not a product homeowners can buy today and not a replacement yet for a separate vacuum on the stairs.
