Roborock introduced the Saros Rover at CES 2026 as a robot vacuum designed to climb stairs and clean each step as it goes. Its independently moving wheel-legs are intended to help it navigate stairs, slopes and other uneven surfaces. The product is still in development, however, and Roborock has not announced a launch date or retail specifications.
Can the Roborock Saros Rover climb stairs?
Roborock says the Saros Rover is designed to climb traditional, curved and carpeted stairs, including stairs with bullnose fronts. Its stated goal is to clean the steps while moving between levelsโnot simply cross a threshold or reach a different floor.

That is the manufacturerโs description of the intended design, not a verified capability across different homes. Roborock has not published supported stair dimensions or geometry limits in its January 6, 2026 announcement.

Can it vacuum each step as it climbs?
Yes, cleaning the steps during stair navigation is part of Roborockโs stated design. The Associated Press observed the Rover cleaning each step during a CES demonstration, while also noting that ascent and descent were slow. That was an event observation, not a standardized test or evidence of performance over repeated household use.

How are the AI-powered wheel-legs supposed to work?
Roborock describes two independently moving wheel-legs that can change their reach, lift and height while helping keep the vacuumโs body level as the surface changes. The company says AI algorithms use motion sensors and 3D spatial information to control movement. These are manufacturer-reported design details, not independently verified engineering specifications.
Beyond stairs, Roborock identifies slopes and complex floor transitions as intended terrain. Tomโs Guide reported seeing the Rover move on a ramp and jump during its CES hands-on. That observation demonstrates movement during a trade-show appearance; it does not establish how reliably the machine handles obstacles in a home.

What did the CES demonstration establishโand what remains unknown?
The Associated Pressโs January 7, 2026 report described slow stair ascent and descent, with the Rover cleaning each step. Tomโs Guideโs January 8, 2026 hands-on account described ramp movement and a jump. These reports offer a limited glimpse of the prototype in demonstrations, not a measure of its performance over time.

When will the Roborock Saros Rover be released, and how much will it cost?
There is no confirmed release date or supported price in the available announcements. Roborock calls the Rover a โreal product in development with an unconfirmed launch dateโ; the Associated Press also reported that no release date had been given. Roborock has not established final retail specifications, so the CES announcement should not be treated as a product available to buy.

Will it let a robot vacuum clean multiple floors without being carried?
That is the use case its stair-climbing design aims to address: moving between floors and cleaning steps along the way. Whether the Rover can do so reliably in a particular home is not yet established. Its demonstrated movement and Roborockโs design claims do not confirm performance on every staircase or remove the need to wait for final specifications and a release.
