Verdict: The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra is the better-equipped machine, while the S8 Pro Ultra is worth considering only at a substantial discount or if you prefer a simpler, camera-free robot. Both are 2024-era models, so the right choice in 2026 depends on the live price versus newer flagships—not on launch-year “new flagship” labels.
The MaxV adds camera-and-structured-light obstacle recognition, edge-cleaning hardware, hot-water mop washing, automatic detergent dosing, adaptive dirt response, voice control and remote viewing. The Pro retains the core vacuuming, mopping and Ultra-dock automation, plus larger onboard dust and water capacities.

What “MaxV” actually adds
More capable obstacle recognition
The MaxV combines an RGB camera with structured light and Reactive AI recognition. That is a meaningful upgrade for floors with cables, toys, bowls and other clutter. It is not a guarantee against every obstacle: small or reflective objects, dark items, clutter beneath furniture and pet waste can still defeat a robot. The Pro’s infrared system is better suited to relatively open, predictable rooms.

Detecting and skillfully bypassing objects with its 3D structured light technology, the robot vacuum creates detailed maps for precise navigation thanks to its PreciSense LiDAR navigation system.
Reach into edges and corners
Its FlexiArm side brush extends toward walls, while Edgewise mopping brings the pad closer to edges. These features address a common robot limitation: a visible strip of dust along baseboards and in corners. The Pro does not have these MaxV-exclusive mechanisms.
Hot-water washing and detergent dosing
The MaxV dock washes mop pads with water heated to 60°C and meters detergent from a 580 ml tank. Roborock says that tank can last more than three months, but real duration depends on frequency, settings and home size. Hot water can help with greasy residue; it does not make the dock maintenance-free, and only use cleaning fluid approved for the applicable model and warranty.

- 𝟴𝟬𝟬𝟬𝗣𝗮 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Engineered to deliver unmatched cleaning performance, the roborock QV 35A robot vacuum with 8000Pa powerful suction effortlessly captures embedded dirt, stubborn debris, and pet hair from deep within carpets, rugs, and hard-to-reach corners, leaving every surface spotless.
- 𝗔𝗹𝗹-𝗶𝗻-𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Designed for ultimate convenience, the advanced docking station automatically empties dust into a sealed 2.7L bag that lasts 7–9 weeks, refills the water with a 4L tank for 3552 sqft coverage, thoroughly washes mopping pads and dries them, ensuring the robot vacuum and mop always ready for the next cleaning. To maintain optimal operation, the dirty water tank should be cleaned regularly.
- 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲-𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: The upgraded asymmetrical side brush is SGS-certified for a 0% hair tangling rate, while the full-rubber spiral main brush effectively prevents hair and debris from wrapping around it, perfect for homes with pets or hair. Just say goodbye to hair tangles with the innovative robot vacuum.
- 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Equipped with the Reactive Tech system, the QV 35A robot vacuum detects and avoids obstacles like furniture, cords, and shoes with precision. It also intelligently identifies no-go zones, such as stairs or tight spaces, to prevent getting stuck and ensure uninterrupted cleaning.
- 𝗗𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝟭𝟬𝗺𝗺 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝘁: Elevate the floor care and scrub away tough stains with two 200RPM high-speed rotating mopping pads. The 30 adjustable water levels help the robot vacuum cleaner adapt to all floor types, from delicate hardwoods to tiles. The 10mm lift feature allows it to seamlessly transition to low-pile carpets, ensuring no wet messes and complete cleaning versatility.
Adaptive cleaning and smart controls
Roborock’s DirTect system can adjust cleaning and mop re-washing when it detects heavier dirt. The MaxV also supports targeted “Add Area” and “Skip Area” controls, a built-in “Hello Rocky” assistant, remote viewing and video calling. These are convenience and automation advantages rather than proof of superior stain removal.
Vacuuming, mopping and rugs
Hard floors and pet hair
Both machines use DuoRoller designs intended for mixed flooring and hair pickup. The MaxV’s 10,000 Pa figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measure of carpet pickup, noise or pet-hair removal. Brush condition, floor texture and the number of passes still matter.

Dried stains
The MaxV has the stronger hardware package for frequent mopping: dual VibraRise 3.0 vibration modules, Roborock’s advertised rate of up to 4,000 scrubs per minute, adaptive dirt response, hot-water pad washing and detergent dosing. Actual results on dried stains depend on water flow, pad condition, floor texture and repeated passes; neither robot replaces manual scrubbing for every set-in spill.
Carpets and thresholds
Both robots lift their mopping assemblies. MaxV materials describe clearance of up to 20 mm, but thick, shaggy or tasseled rugs can still cause tangles or navigation problems. Test the exact rugs, thresholds and floor transitions during the return period.

Capacity: where the Pro Ultra still has an advantage
The Pro has a 350 ml robot dustbin and 200 ml internal water tank, versus 270 ml and 100 ml in the MaxV. For a normal docked run, auto-emptying and automatic refill reduce the practical difference. Larger capacities matter more in a large home, on disconnected floors, or whenever the robot cannot reliably return to its station. The MaxV partly compensates with a larger 4 L clean-water dock tank versus 3.5 L for the Pro.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Dock automation does not eliminate maintenance
Owners of either Ultra dock should still:
- Refill clean water and empty the dirty-water tank.
- Inspect the dust bag or dock bin.
- Clean the wash tray, filters and dock water pathways.
- Remove hair from the DuoRoller and side brush.
- Inspect mop attachments and replace worn pads, filters, bags and brushes.
- Keep sensors and the MaxV camera area clean.
- Increase drying time in humid conditions if pads remain damp or develop an odor.
The MaxV manual explains several apparent “failures”: auto-emptying may be disabled in Do Not Disturb mode, a robot that returns without cleaning may not empty, and clogged filters, incorrect dock components or improperly installed water lines can stop functions. A refill-and-drainage dock variant can connect to household plumbing, but it is not included in every package and requires suitable installation.

When carpets are detected, the Dual Spinning Mops and mop bracket automatically lift to prevent wetting long-pile carpets. During recharging, the main and side brushes are raised to avoid dirt transfer onto the floor, delivering a quiet and pristine mopping experience.
Camera, privacy and placement considerations
The MaxV camera enables remote viewing and video calling, which can help check pets or a room while away. It is also a legitimate privacy objection. The supplied product materials confirm those functions but do not establish one universal camera-disable, data-retention or privacy setting for every country and firmware version; check the current regional app, policy and manual before buying.
Place either dock near power with a clear route for the robot and on a surface protected from possible dirty-water spills. Plumbed versions need compatible water and drainage access. Do not assume a wood floor, carpet or tight alcove is suitable without checking the applicable regional installation guidance.
Which model should you buy?
Choose the S8 MaxV Ultra when
- Your floors contain cables, toys, bowls or frequent clutter.
- Cleaning along walls and into corners matters.
- You mop often and value hot-water washing and automatic detergent dosing.
- Remote viewing or voice control is genuinely useful.
- The verified price gap over the Pro is modest.
Choose the S8 Pro Ultra when
- It is substantially cheaper than the MaxV.
- You do not want an RGB camera or remote-viewing feature.
- The larger robot dustbin and internal water tank fit your layout.
- Your rooms are relatively uncluttered and you mainly need dependable vacuuming, mopping, auto-emptying, drying and refill.
Compare newer models instead when
- Either S8 is priced close to a current-generation flagship.
- You need the newest navigation, dock automation or performance platform.
- You cannot accommodate the dock, manage dirty water or perform periodic cleaning.
- You expect guaranteed pet-waste avoidance or flawless handling of unusual thresholds.
Where the S8 Max Ultra fits
The S8 Max Ultra is the middle option in this family. Roborock’s comparison indicates that it shares several Max-series dock and edge-cleaning upgrades but omits the MaxV’s intelligent voice assistant and remote viewing. In practical terms: MaxV is the most feature-rich, Max Ultra supplies much of the newer cleaning hardware without the camera-oriented extras, and Pro Ultra is the older, simpler bargain candidate.
2026 value check
The MaxV launched in the United States at $1,799.99 in April 2024; the S8 Max Ultra launched at $1,599.99. Those are launch MSRPs, not current prices. The 2026 market report places the MaxV below newer premium Roborock platforms in advertised suction and dock capability, so verify live price, stock, warranty, dock type and return terms before treating either S8 as the best buy. If a current flagship costs about the same, the newer model is usually the safer value.

Bottom line
Buy the S8 MaxV Ultra when you want the S8 family’s strongest obstacle sensing, edge reach, mopping automation and smart features, and its verified 2026 price is well below newer flagships. Buy the S8 Pro Ultra only when the discount is large, you prefer no camera, or its larger onboard capacities solve a specific layout problem. Neither is “new” in 2026; price, privacy and the condition of your floors should decide.
