Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Review: Still Worth Buying in 2026?

The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra remains a highly automated robot vacuum and mop, but its 2026 value depends on a deep discount. Here are its strengths, limitations, maintenance demands, and best alternatives.

Verdict: The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra remains one of the most automated robot vacuum-and-mop systems you can buy, but its original $1,799.99 flagship positioning no longer makes it an automatic recommendation. It is most compelling at a substantial discount, especially for pet owners who value obstacle recognition, remote camera features, vibrating mopping, automatic detergent dosing, and Roborock’s highly integrated dock.

Independent testing suggests a trade-off rather than a clean victory over newer rivals: the S8 MaxV Ultra identifies hazards better than the Roborock Qrevo Curv, while the Curv performs better in some hard-floor and mopping tests and handles taller thresholds. The S8 MaxV Ultra is a strong discounted buy—not necessarily the best current robot vacuum at full price.

What is the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra?

The S8 MaxV Ultra is a premium robot vacuum-and-mop system built around two components: the cleaning robot and the 8-in-1 RockDock Ultra. The robot combines LiDAR navigation, 3D structured light, an RGB camera, dual main rollers, a vibrating mop, a side brush, and onboard water and dust containers. The dock charges the robot and automates much of the work that normally makes robot mops inconvenient.

  • 𝟭𝟴,𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗣𝗮 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - Engineered for strong everyday cleaning performance, the robot delivers powerful suction to effortlessly lift dust, crumbs, cat litter, stubborn debris, and pet hair from hard floors, carpets, and corners, helping keep every room fresh and spotless with less effort
  • 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 - Built for homes with pets and long hair, the zero-tangle side brush, all rubber main brush, and easy-to-clean omnidirectional wheel help reduce hair wrap and simplify maintenance, making daily cleanup easier and less time-consuming
  • 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 - From kitchen splashes and cereal crumbs to pet paw prints and everyday footprints, the advanced dual mop system tackles daily messes with ease while adjusting water flow for cleaner, fresher floors throughout your home
  • 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝟯.𝟴 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 - Powered by smart obstacle detection, the robot precisely avoids shoes, toys, and furniture legs while gliding smoothly under beds and sofas to clean hidden dust in low-clearance spaces for more complete coverage

Roborock lists a maximum suction rating of 10,000 Pa, DuoRoller Riser brushes, VibraRise 3.0 mopping, FlexiArm edge coverage, Reactive AI 2.0 obstacle recognition, SmartPlan cleaning, hot-water mop washing, warm-air drying, automatic detergent dispensing, dust emptying, and water refilling. These are manufacturer specifications and features—not a guarantee that it will outperform every newer robot with a higher published suction number. Suction figures are not standardized enough to replace independent pickup testing. See Roborock’s feature documentation for the stated specifications.

Vacuuming performance

Hard floors

The S8 MaxV Ultra is well suited to homes with hard floors, where its repeated passes, dual rollers, side brush, and configurable cleaning routines can handle everyday dust, crumbs, and pet debris. The robot can increase cleaning intensity and return to the dock to empty or wash its mop during a run, reducing the need to intervene.

However, the 10,000 Pa figure should not be treated as a standardized performance score. A higher number on a newer model does not automatically mean better real-world pickup, and the S8 MaxV Ultra’s feature set does not guarantee that it will remove every particle from grout, cracks, or irregular flooring.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Carpets and pet hair

The DuoRoller Riser system is designed to improve pickup while allowing the main brushes to lift when the robot detects a mop-sensitive surface. The robot can vacuum while mopping and can lift the mop modules for carpet, but carpet settings and map accuracy still matter. Dark, patterned, thin, tasselled, or high-pile rugs can be harder to identify correctly than conventional low-pile carpet.

For pet owners, the S8 MaxV Ultra offers a useful combination of dual rollers, scheduled cleaning, automatic emptying, and claimed object recognition. Hair can still wrap around rollers and the side brush, so “self-emptying” does not mean the brush assembly never needs attention. Buyers whose main priority is deep carpet cleaning should compare newer models rather than assuming the S8 MaxV Ultra remains the category leader.

Mopping performance

VibraRise 3.0 uses a vibrating mop system that Roborock advertises at up to 4,000 scrubs per minute. The mop modules can lift for carpet, and the robot can return to the dock for washing according to the selected cleaning settings. This is a more sophisticated approach than a robot that simply drags a damp cloth across the floor.

It should be viewed as maintenance mopping rather than a replacement for manual cleaning. Routine dust, light paw prints, and everyday marks are the system’s natural use case. Dried food, grease, heavily textured floors, and deep grout can still require a hand mop or spot treatment.

The dock should be placed against a wall on a hard and even floor (wood, tile, concrete, etc.). Avoid placing it on soft surfaces (carpet, mat, etc.) and in narrow areas. Ensure that the location has a strong WiFi signal for an optimal experience with the mobile app. The height difference at any point on the drainage pipeline from the ground is recommended not to exceed 50cm(1.6ft). The installation distance for the water refill and outlet pipes is recommended within 6 meters(19.7ft).
  • 𝗨𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝗹-𝗶𝗻-𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗗𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮: The RockDock Ultra revolutionizes cleaning with automatic hot water mop washing (up to 140°F) that effortlessly dissolves stubborn stains from the mop. Its intelligent dirt detection ensures optimal mop-washing time and returns to heavily soiled areas for thorough cleanliness. The automatic detergent dispenser provides over 3 months of cleaning support with a single fill, while automatic dust collection, water replenishment, and a self-cleaning base ensure hassle-free maintenance, saving you precious time.
  • 𝗨𝗻𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: With unparalleled 8000Pa suction, unleash the formidable cleaning power of the S8 Max Ultra to achieve spotless perfection in your home. The upgraded mop features dual vibration modules that can easily manage dust, dirt, and dry stains through high-speed scrubbing at 4000 times per minute.
  • 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Experience intelligent cleaning with the S8 Max Ultra's Reactive 3D Obstacle Avoidance and PreciSense LiDAR technology. Detecting and skillfully bypassing objects with its 3D structured light technology, the robot vacuum creates detailed maps for precise navigation thanks to its PreciSense LiDAR navigation system.

Roborock says the dock can wash the mop with water up to 140°F under its internal-test conditions. That describes the clean-water temperature claim; it should not be read as a guarantee that every part of the mop pad remains at 140°F throughout the wash cycle. Roborock also describes a heating module capable of heating the clean sink to 60°C in its comparison documentation. See the US product page and model comparison.

In RTINGS’ current comparison, the Qrevo Curv has the advantage in some hard-floor and mopping categories. That makes the S8 MaxV Ultra’s mopping appeal more about its complete system—vibration, lifting, washing, drying, detergent dosing, and app control—than an across-the-board cleaning win. Read the RTINGS comparison.

Edge cleaning and obstacle avoidance

The FlexiArm side-brush design is intended to extend cleaning coverage toward walls and furniture. In practice, the robot can still leave a narrow untouched strip where baseboards, ledges, furniture legs, or room geometry prevent it from positioning close enough. “Edge-to-edge” should be understood as a design goal, not a guarantee that no border will remain.

Navigation combines PreciSense LiDAR with 3D structured light and an RGB camera. Roborock says the system can recognize objects including shoes, pet waste, and floor mirrors. In RTINGS’ comparison, the S8 MaxV Ultra identified and avoided hazards more effectively than the Qrevo Curv.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That advantage has limits. Thin cables, socks, small toys, dark objects, reflective surfaces, poor lighting, and clutter can still cause problems. Camera-based recognition also does not guarantee pet-waste avoidance. Before an unattended run, remove charging cables, toys, socks, pet bowls, and other low objects. Do not treat the claimed pet-waste feature as permission to test the robot unsupervised around a real accident.

How autonomous is the RockDock Ultra?

The dock is the S8 MaxV Ultra’s biggest practical advantage. It can:

  • Empty the robot’s dustbin automatically.
  • Refill the robot’s water supply.
  • Collect dirty mop water.
  • Wash the mop with heated water.
  • Dry the mop with warm air.
  • Dispense cleaning solution automatically.
  • Charge the robot.
  • Clean parts of the dock’s washing system.

Roborock lists a 580ml automatic detergent tank and estimates that it can last more than three months under its usage assumptions. Your result will vary with cleaning frequency, detergent settings, floor area, and the amount of mopping.

Additionally, the anti-tangle omnidirectional wheels eliminate the need for manual hair removal, significantly boosting cleaning efficiency and making maintenance effortless.
  • 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: The FlexiArm Riser Side Brush & Mop automatically extends to reach difficult corners and low spaces under furniture, sweeping away dust with ease. As it detects corners and edges, the mop extends to provide thorough, efficient cleaning. • 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆-𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗟𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀: The innovative AdaptiLift Chassis, featuring left/right wheels and omnidirectional wheels, effortlessly navigates obstacles up to 4 cm high, including thresholds and U-shaped furniture legs. When carpets are detected, the Dual Spinning Mops and mop bracket automatically lift to prevent wetting long-pile carpets. During recharging, the main and side brushes are raised to avoid dirt transfer onto the floor, delivering a quiet and pristine mopping experience.

The dock reduces routine work; it does not eliminate ownership work. You still need to refill clean water, empty dirty water, replace dust bags, clean the tray and water channels, inspect brushes and wheels, remove hair, wash or replace mop pads, and clean sensors. The user manual also includes procedures for clearing the air inlet and manually emptying the robot dustbin when auto-emptying performance falls.

What the robot does automatically—and what you still do

Automated task Owner’s remaining responsibility
Dust emptying Replace the dust bag and clear blockages
Mop washing and drying Rinse the dock tray and inspect pads for residue or odor
Water refilling Refill the clean-water tank
Dirty-water collection Empty and rinse the dirty-water tank
Brush lifting Remove wrapped hair and debris
Navigation and mapping Clear clutter and correct maps or no-go zones

Maintenance and running costs

A practical maintenance routine is more realistic than calling the system maintenance-free. The following is an editorial recommendation rather than a fixed schedule from Roborock:

Task Suggested cadence Purpose
Refill clean-water tank As needed Keeps mopping available
Empty dirty-water tank As needed Reduces stagnant water and odor
Inspect mop pads Weekly Maintains contact and stain removal
Rinse dock tray Weekly or when dirty Prevents residue buildup
Remove hair from rollers and side brush Weekly Protects pickup and movement
Clean sensors and camera area Monthly or when navigation worsens Supports mapping and obstacle recognition
Replace filters and other consumables When the app or manual indicates Maintains airflow and hygiene

The system also creates recurring costs for dust bags, mop pads, filters, brush components, and approved cleaning solution. Roborock’s manual says the solution is not included and advises using only Roborock-recommended solution in the cartridge. Do not add bleach, vinegar, disinfectant, or arbitrary household floor cleaner.

Camera, pet monitoring, and privacy

The S8 MaxV Ultra is unusual among the compared S8 models because it includes an RGB camera, remote viewing, video calling, two-way voice interaction, and Roborock’s intelligent voice assistant. For a pet owner, remote viewing can be useful for checking whether an animal is home, locating the robot, or seeing why a cleaning run stopped.

The same camera is a meaningful privacy trade-off. Buyers who only want vacuuming and mopping may reasonably prefer a model without remote viewing. Before enabling the feature, review the app’s current permissions, privacy controls, and disclosures. The available product information does not by itself establish where video is stored, how long it is retained, or every detail of cloud processing, so those should not be assumed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

App, mapping, and connectivity

The Roborock app provides initial mapping, room naming, room-specific cleaning, schedules, no-go zones, no-mop zones, carpet settings, suction and water-flow controls, mop-wash frequency, cleaning history, firmware updates, and remote features. SmartPlan is intended to adapt cleaning plans to the home and previous cleaning habits.

The prominent setup caveat is connectivity: the user manual specifies 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, not 5GHz. Dual-band routers may support 2.4GHz, but the setup can still fail if the phone or router steers the process to the wrong band. A VPN, network isolation, changed Wi-Fi credentials, or an incorrect password can also interfere.

Recommended first-use setup

  1. Place the dock on a level, hard surface near a power outlet.
  2. Leave the clearance specified in the current manual and ensure the robot can enter and exit.
  3. Install the mop cloths, side brush, dust bag, and detergent cartridge if you plan to use automatic dosing.
  4. Fill the clean-water tank and place the robot on the dock.
  5. Install the Roborock app and connect through a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
  6. Clear cables, socks, toys, bowls, and other small objects.
  7. Run the first mapping cycle from the dock.
  8. Confirm room names, carpet areas, no-go zones, and no-mop zones.
  9. Run a short test clean before scheduling unattended cleaning.

Roborock’s manual advises starting the robot from the dock and not moving the dock during cleaning. If the battery runs low, the robot should return to the dock and resume when appropriate.

Important limitations

Thresholds

RTINGS lists a maximum threshold capability of approximately 1.9cm (0.7in) for the S8 MaxV Ultra in its comparison data. Measure raised door strips, floor transitions, and rug edges before buying. A home with tall thresholds may be better served by the Qrevo Curv, which RTINGS lists at approximately 3.8cm (1.5in) in the same comparison.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Rugs and wet-cleaning risk

Mop lifting helps protect carpets, but it does not remove the need for correct carpet detection. Add carpet or no-mop zones manually when rugs are dark, patterned, thin, tasseled, or high-pile, or whenever even slight dampness is unacceptable.

Dock size and noise

The dock needs a permanent location with room for the robot to approach and room for you to remove its tanks. Measure width, depth, height, front clearance, cabinet-door clearance, and outlet access before purchase. Expect auto-emptying and mop washing to sound different—and potentially louder—than routine robot cleaning. “Quiet” is not a meaningful blanket verdict without measurements for each cycle.

S8 MaxV Ultra versus the alternatives

Roborock Qrevo Curv

The Qrevo Curv is the closest practical comparison in the supplied independent testing. The S8 MaxV Ultra has the edge in hazard identification and offers a distinctive camera, remote-viewing, and vibrating-mop package. The Qrevo Curv performs better in some hard-floor and mopping tests and offers substantially greater threshold clearance in RTINGS’ data.

Choose the S8 MaxV Ultra when obstacle recognition, pet monitoring, VibraRise mopping, and the Roborock feature set matter most. Choose the Qrevo Curv when hard-floor cleaning, mopping results, taller transitions, or newer hardware matter more.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

S8 Max Ultra and S8 Pro Ultra

These older S8-family alternatives may be worth considering at clearance prices, but they do not offer the same complete feature set. In Roborock’s comparison, the S8 MaxV Ultra is the model in this group with the intelligent voice assistant and remote-viewing capability. Check the exact dock, mop, camera, and detergent features rather than assuming the similar names indicate identical systems.

Newer 2026 models

Newer Roborock and competing models may offer stronger carpet performance, higher published suction figures, more current anti-tangle hardware, or better threshold handling. TechRadar’s 2026 roundup highlights the Qrevo Curv as a leading choice for many buyers, citing 18,500 Pa suction, obstacle handling, threshold performance, and an automated dock. Tom’s Guide highlights the Qrevo Curv 2 Pro for deep carpet cleaning and lists 25,000 Pa suction, while noting that mopping may not be its strongest area.

Those figures should be treated as comparison points, not proof that a newer model is better in every category. The S8 MaxV Ultra can still be the better fit for someone who specifically wants its camera-based obstacle recognition, remote pet features, vibrating mop, and automatic detergent dispensing.

Common problems and recovery steps

The robot will not connect

Confirm that the phone and router are using 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, check the password, temporarily disable a VPN, and check whether network isolation is enabled. The manual says Wi-Fi is disabled if the robot waits more than 30 minutes for a connection; if that happens, reset the robot’s Wi-Fi and try again.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The robot cannot find the dock

Make sure the task began from the dock, the dock has not moved, the entrance is unobstructed, and the robot can see and approach it. A nearly depleted battery or a blocked route can also prevent a successful return.

Auto-emptying is weak

Check that the dust bag is installed correctly and not full. Inspect the robot dustbin, dock inlet, and air inlet for compacted debris. The manual specifically advises manual dustbin emptying and air-inlet cleaning when auto-emptying performance declines.

The mop remains wet or smells

Confirm that drying is enabled and that the washing cycle completed. Clean the dock tray, check that the dirty-water tank is not full, inspect the mop pads, and verify that the dock has power and airflow. The manual states that drying starts automatically after mop washing or after cleaning is completed.

Edges remain dirty

Check whether furniture, irregular baseboards, an inaccurate map, or disabled edge-cleaning settings prevent the robot from reaching the boundary. Some untouched edge is a physical limitation, not necessarily a fault.

Who should buy the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra?

  • Buy it if you have pets and mostly hard floors. The camera, obstacle recognition, scheduling, automatic emptying, and mopping system address the messes and interruptions that make frequent cleaning difficult.
  • Buy it if it is heavily discounted. The product becomes far more compelling around the $799.99 price signal than at its $1,799.99 launch positioning, though the cited listing was out of stock.
  • Buy it if you already use Roborock. Existing familiarity with the app and ecosystem can make the upgrade easier.
  • Compare carefully if your home has high thresholds. The approximately 1.9cm threshold result in RTINGS’ comparison is a real constraint.
  • Compare carefully if deep carpet is your priority. Newer models may be stronger in this category.
  • Avoid it if you do not want a camera. The S8 MaxV Ultra’s remote-viewing features are optional in value but unavoidable as part of the hardware.
  • Avoid it if you want a maintenance-free appliance. Water tanks, dock channels, mop pads, filters, rollers, dust bags, and cleaning solution still require attention.
  • Consider the refill-and-drain version only if plumbing is practical. Roborock also sells an S8 MaxV Ultra with a refill and drainage system, but it is intended for homeowners who can permanently connect the dock to water supply and drainage—not most renters or apartment dwellers. See the official product page for current availability and pricing.

Final verdict

The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra is still a capable, unusually automated robot cleaner. Its best qualities are not captured by the 10,000 Pa specification: the obstacle-recognition system, camera features, vibrating mop, automatic detergent dosing, hot-water mop washing, and polished dock-and-app integration make it convenient for busy pet-owning households.

But it is an older flagship, and its value depends heavily on price. At or near $1,799.99, compare newer Roborock models and the Qrevo Curv first. At a substantial discount, it becomes a strong choice for buyers who prioritize automation and hazard recognition over the very newest carpet, threshold, or anti-tangle hardware. Just remember that the dock automates maintenance—it does not abolish it.
