Ring does sell current outdoor cameras marketed as Retinal 4K, but not every upgraded Ring camera records in 4K. The Outdoor Cam Pro, Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) and Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) are the main consumer 4K models. Ring’s newer, more affordable Spotlight Cam (2nd Gen) and Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen) use Retinal 2K instead.
There is another important distinction: a camera’s stated 4K capture capability is not the same as unlimited, permanently stored 4K recordings. Reviewing missed events and saving or sharing footage requires Ring Protect, according to Ring’s product information.

Ring’s current outdoor-camera lineup lists both Retinal 2K and Retinal 4K products. That means “upgraded Ring cameras” should not automatically be read as “4K Ring cameras.”

What Ring actually launched
There are two separate product stories behind Ring’s current camera expansion.
Premium Retinal 4K cameras
Ring currently markets the Outdoor Cam Pro, Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) and Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) as Retinal 4K cameras. Ring’s January 2026 CES announcement also discussed Retinal 4K options for Ring Elite, an enterprise-oriented system rather than a standard residential camera.
The CES announcement did not represent one single consumer launch of every 4K model. It is more accurate to describe Ring’s lineup as expanding to include several Retinal 4K products while keeping lower-priced 2K models in the range.
The newer mainstream 2K refresh
On May 13, 2026, Ring announced the Spotlight Cam (2nd Gen) and Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen) with Retinal 2K. Ring said those cameras would become available on June 3, 2026, with US launch pricing starting at $169.99.
The Spotlight Cam (2nd Gen) adds a dual-chamber battery design, compatibility with the Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack and a 550-lumen spotlight. The Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen) uses Retinal 2K and provides 2,000-lumen floodlight illumination.

Rank #2
- Capture it all with Retinal 4K video — See every detail of your home or business in full view — powered by Retinal 4K. (Video quality may vary based on internet bandwidth and device temperature.)
- Zoom in 10x — Catch details even at a distance with up to 10x Enhanced Zoom.
- See true color, even in low light — With Low-Light Sight, just a little ambient light gives you true color video. In total darkness, your camera switches to crisp black-and-white to keep details sharp.
- Get precise alerts, not interruptions – Receive real-time phone alerts, delivered by radar-powered 3D Motion Detection.
- Connect to who’s there – See and respond to activity with Live View & Two-Way Talk.
What “Retinal Vision 4K” means
“Retinal Vision 4K” is Ring’s product-marketing terminology, not a separate industry-standard video format. Ring defines Retinal 4K as video captured at 3840 × 2160 pixels. At the same field of view, that is four times the pixel count of 1080p.

Ring also describes Retinal 4K as a wider image-quality system involving camera tuning, image sharpness, color accuracy and low-light processing. Those performance advantages are Ring’s claims and should not be treated as independent test results.
Higher resolution is most useful when the camera covers a large area or when footage may need to be cropped. It does not guarantee that a distant face, number plate or package label will be identifiable in every scene.
Which Ring cameras record in 4K?
Outdoor Cam Pro
The Outdoor Cam Pro is the straightforward choice for 4K outdoor coverage without an integrated spotlight or floodlight. Ring lists plug-in, wired and Power over Ethernet configurations.
- Retinal 4K at 3840 × 2160 pixels
- 140-degree horizontal and 85-degree vertical field of view
- Night vision
- Up to 10× enhanced zoom
- 3D Motion Detection
- US plug-in starting price shown: $199.99
It suits a garden, side passage, yard or general exterior location where existing lighting is sufficient or a separate light is preferred.
Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen)
The Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) combines 4K video with motion-triggered lighting and an audible deterrent.

This is a better fit for a gate, narrow driveway, side entrance or path where targeted illumination is useful.
Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen)
The Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) is designed for larger outdoor areas. It combines Retinal 4K video with radar-powered 3D Motion Detection and two bright floodlights.
- Retinal 4K at 3840 × 2160 pixels
- Up to 10× enhanced zoom
- Two integrated floodlights
- Radar-powered 3D Motion Detection
- US wired price shown: $279.99
Installation is more involved than mounting a basic plug-in camera, particularly where an existing electrical point is unavailable. Check the current product page for the exact configuration, stock and plug-in pricing.
Ring Elite is a separate category
Ring’s CES 2026 announcement described Ring Elite as a scalable, enterprise-oriented system with configurations ranging from approximately 140 to 360 degrees and Retinal 4K options. It is intended for larger properties and commercial deployments, not simply as another consumer outdoor camera.
Ring’s CES announcement provides the relevant context.
Does a Ring 4K camera save 4K recordings?
Do not assume that buying a 4K camera automatically provides unlimited, permanent 4K cloud recordings.
Rank #4
- This bundle contains 4 Indoor Cam Plus, White.
- Capture it all with Retinal 2K video — See every detail of your home or business in full view — powered by Retinal 2K. (Video quality may vary based on internet bandwidth and device temperature.)
- Zoom in 4x — Catch details at a distance with up to 4x Enhanced Zoom.
- True color, even in low light — With Low-Light Sight, just a little ambient light gives you true color video. In total darkness, your camera switches to crisp black-and-white to keep details sharp.
- Get real-time alerts, not interruptions — Receive real-time alerts on your phone when motion is detected.
These are separate parts of the system:
- 4K capture capability: the camera is specified at 3840 × 2160 pixels.
- Live view: the stream you see while actively viewing the camera.
- Event recording: clips generated by motion or another supported event.
- Cloud retention: how long recorded events remain available under the applicable Ring service.
- Download and sharing: access to saving or sharing footage through the service.
Ring’s product information says Ring Protect is required to review missed videos or images and to save or share videos and photos. Without the relevant service, buyers should not expect unlimited cloud recording.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe available product information confirms the camera resolution but does not establish every recording’s bitrate, codec, frame rate, retention period or whether all service tiers preserve footage in identical quality. Live-view quality and recorded-event quality can also be affected by Wi-Fi, compression, lighting, the viewing device and app behavior.
Is 4K worthwhile for a home?
4K is most valuable when you need to inspect detail across distance or crop a wide scene. It is less valuable when a camera is close to the subject and the scene is already well covered by 2K.
Choose 4K when:
- The camera covers a long driveway, large yard or broad approach.
- You may need to crop footage around a face, package, vehicle or number plate.
- The mounting position is relatively far from the likely subject.
- You have reliable Wi-Fi or Ethernet/PoE.
- You accept the higher camera price and separate recording-service cost.
2K may be enough when:
- The camera watches a normal porch, patio or short side path.
- The camera is close enough to the subject for its field of view.
- Price matters more than maximum detail.
- Battery operation or simpler installation is the priority.
- Your network connection makes higher-resolution streaming unreliable.
Ring’s “up to 10× enhanced zoom” is a maximum claim, not a guarantee of usable identification at ten times the distance. Digital enlargement can magnify blur, glare and compression artifacts.
Choosing the right model
| Use case | Most suitable choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| General 4K coverage | Outdoor Cam Pro | 4K resolution without requiring an integrated light |
| Side entrance, gate or path | Spotlight Cam Pro | 4K, targeted spotlights and a siren |
| Driveway or broad yard | Floodlight Cam Pro | 4K with two floodlights and motion detection |
| Typical close-range home monitoring | Retinal 2K Spotlight or Floodlight model | Lower entry price where 2K detail is sufficient |
| PoE or wired installation | Outdoor Cam Pro or Spotlight Cam Pro | Ring lists wired and PoE configurations for these models |
| Large commercial property | Ring Elite | Enterprise-oriented coverage and configurations |
Installation and network considerations
Resolution cannot correct poor positioning. Before choosing a camera, check the likely subject distance, mounting height, field of view, available power and the direction of sunlight or artificial glare.
- Power: plug-in, wired and PoE versions differ substantially in installation difficulty and flexibility.
- Network: 4K streams and event uploads benefit from a reliable connection. PoE can simplify connectivity where Ethernet is already available.
- Lighting: a strong backlight, reflective surface or poorly positioned floodlight can reduce useful detail.
- Mounting: a camera aimed too high, too low or across the wrong approach may produce less useful evidence than a well-positioned 2K camera.
- Professional installation: Ring advertises installation starting at approximately $129 per device, with the final price depending on the device and job.
Costs beyond the camera
The camera price is only part of the decision. Ring Protect is a separate recurring-cost checkpoint if you need to review missed events or save and share recordings. Current US Protect prices and retention terms are not included here because they were not verified in the supplied product information.
Best Value
- Capture it all with Retinal 4K video — See your home or business in the ultimate clarity with Retinal 4K.
- Zoom in up to 10x — Catch details at a distance with up to 10x Enhanced Zoom.
- See, hear and speak to visitors on camera — With Live View & Two-Way Talk with Audio+, you’ll be able to interact with who’s there in real time, right from your phone.
- Tailored detection for more exact alerts — 3D Motion Detection pinpoints motion on your property so you’ll receive more precise alerts and fewer interruptions.

Ring pages also show bundles, including combinations of the Outdoor Cam Pro with the Spotlight Cam Pro or Floodlight Cam Pro. A bundle can make sense when two different areas need different types of coverage, but promotions and list prices change. Check the current offers page before buying.
Possible accessories listed by Ring include an Outdoor Cam Pro lens cover at $9.99, an indoor/outdoor USB-C power adapter at $39.99, Ring Beacon at $49.99 and reflective security stickers at $5.99. These prices may change.
Important limitations
- 4K does not guarantee night-time identification. Ring makes low-light and image-processing claims, but those are not a substitute for independent testing in your location.
- Zoom is not lossless detail. “Up to 10×” does not mean every distant object will be clear.
- Cloud storage is not automatically included forever. Recording review, saving and sharing depend on Ring Protect.
- Power type affects placement. A wired floodlight camera is not interchangeable with a battery or plug-in model.
- Prices and stock vary. US prices differ from UK and European pricing, bundles and availability.
- Privacy depends on cloud use. Buyers who specifically want local storage without cloud dependence should check whether Ring meets that requirement before purchase.
Ring’s UK comparison page illustrates why regional naming, pricing and configurations should be checked locally.

Bottom line
Ring’s Retinal 4K cameras are real current products, but the branding should not obscure the practical differences. The Outdoor Cam Pro, Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) and Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) are the main consumer 4K choices. The newer affordable Spotlight Cam and Floodlight Cam refresh uses Retinal 2K.
Choose 4K when distance, wide coverage and cropping matter. Choose 2K when the camera is close to the subject and price, simpler installation or battery flexibility matters more. In either case, placement, lighting, network quality, power and the Ring Protect recording requirement may affect the result more than the Retinal label alone.
