Friends remembered her as caring, helpful and devoted to the community.
What happened at the construction site
The Journal, summarizing a San Miguel County incident report, reported that Johnson was touring an unfinished home on Marmot Way with her friend William Russell Armstrong. Armstrong was checking the property for his nephew.
The newspaper said a hole near the stairwell had been covered by a tarp before Johnson fell from the first floor into the basement. Armstrong was explaining plans for the kitchen cabinets and briefly turned away; he then heard her fall. According to The Journal, security camera footage corroborated Armstrong’s account.
Nearby workers, including Skieler Grooms, came to help. The Journal reported that they assisted Armstrong in pulling Johnson from a shallow trench in the basement, placed her on a tarp and performed CPR until medical personnel arrived. Johnson was declared dead at the scene.
