The license arrangement covered independent suspension systems and powertrains for vehicles with two, three or four axles. The Wisent 8×8 was cited as an early example, but available sources do not establish whether the agreement remains in force today.
What did the Rheinmetall–Timoney agreement cover?
An October 15, 2010 account by Indian Defence Review described a license agreement between Munich-based RMMV and Gibbstown-based Timoney Technology. Under the reported arrangement, Timoney would develop and produce independent suspension systems and powertrains for new RMMV all-wheel-drive vehicles fitted with independent suspension.
The scope was described as covering two-, three- and four-axle configurations. The intended result was a family of high-mobility vehicles designed for military requirements, building on Timoney powertrain technology used in the Wisent. The report characterized the cooperation as applying to military logistics and tactical vehicles; it did not identify specific production volumes or a complete list of vehicle models.
Why was the Wisent 8×8 named?
The 2010 account identified the “new Wisent,” an 8×8 all-wheel-drive armored vehicle, as the first example of the cooperation. It said the vehicle had undergone intensive qualification trials in the Bundeswehr’s GFF 4 procurement program and described its handling and off-road performance favorably, attributing its ability to manage challenging terrain to its chassis.

That is the publication’s account of the trials, not independently presented test data. The article gives no quantified mobility results, trial protocol or comparative performance figures, so it supports identifying the Wisent as the reported early example—not making broader claims about measured superiority or the performance of every system covered by the license.
What did the companies say at the time?
The article attributed the agreement’s strategic rationale to Dr. Gerhard Skoff, identified as a member of RMMV top management. He said the deal was a step toward positioning RMMV as a leading supplier of military wheeled vehicles and that Timoney’s advanced-chassis expertise would support its ambitions in the all-terrain military market.

It also quoted Timoney CEO Shane O’Neill describing the company as excited to work closely with RMMV and emphasizing the importance of matching vehicle configuration to mission requirements. These quotations are reproduced from the 2010 secondary account; the source does not establish them as a verified transcript of an original company release.
Is the agreement still active?
The available evidence does not establish the current status of the 2010 RMMV–Timoney arrangement. Timoney’s news page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists more recent drivetrain and vehicle collaborations, including a February 2025 selection as hybrid-electric powertrain supplier for Milrem Robotics’ 8×8 HAVOC robotic combat vehicle. Those announcements show continuing activity in mobility engineering, but do not confirm that the RMMV license remains active.

Nor should the historical agreement be treated as evidence about other current Rheinmetall vehicles. Rheinmetall describes the Boxer as a modular armored 8×8 with all-weather off-road capability and identifies it as a joint product of KNDS and Rheinmetall; the page does not connect Boxer to the Timoney systems in the 2010 report. Rheinmetall’s Vehicle Systems division covers logistics and tactical vehicles, including military trucks and wheeled armored vehicles, but likewise does not establish continuity of the Timoney agreement.

Here, the phrase refers specifically to the independent suspension and powertrain systems that Timoney was reported to develop and produce under license for RMMV all-wheel-drive vehicles. It is not a named consumer product or a single chassis model. The report’s distinction matters: the agreement concerned underlying vehicle engineering across axle configurations, while the Wisent was the named 8×8 example.

The same article described RMMV as a joint venture of Rheinmetall AG and MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG established at the beginning of 2010. That is historical corporate context from the period, not a statement about the companies’ present structure.
