Launched in the US on March 25, 2026, it combines a 2K camera, an integrated 3W solar panel, a 7,800mAh battery, two adjustable floodlights and local recording without requiring a monthly subscription.
Its strongest advantage is also its biggest installation consideration: the solar panel is built into the camera and cannot be positioned independently. Reolink says its SolarEase system can provide a day’s power from as little as one hour of sunlight, but that is a manufacturer claim rather than a guarantee for every building, season or mounting position.

What is the Reolink Solar Floodlight Cam?
The Solar Floodlight Cam is an all-in-one outdoor security unit rather than a conventional battery camera with a separate solar accessory. Its weatherproof body contains a central camera, two side-mounted floodlights and a top-mounted solar panel.
That makes it particularly relevant to construction sites, garages, outbuildings and residential properties where running a power cable would be disruptive or impractical. It is wire-free for power and installation cabling, but it still needs a reliable 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi connection. It is not a cellular camera.

Reolink launched it in the United States on March 25, 2026, with availability subsequently expanding to markets including the UK and Australia. It should now be considered a recently launched 2026 model rather than a brand-new release.
The camera sits below more capable wired and 4K models in Reolink’s range. The headline proposition is simpler: install one unit, let the integrated panel help maintain the battery, illuminate movement and save footage locally without a compulsory cloud plan.

Why the solar panel matters
The camera has a fixed integrated 3W solar panel feeding a 7,800mAh battery. Reolink claims that its SolarEase charging system can achieve up to 26% photoelectric conversion efficiency and that as little as one hour of sunlight can provide a full day of power. It also rates the fully charged battery for up to three months without solar input.
Those figures should be treated as manufacturer claims, not universal performance guarantees. Actual charging depends on:
- the direction and angle of the mounting surface;
- latitude, season and daily sunlight;
- shade from eaves, trees or neighbouring buildings;
- cloud, dirt and weather conditions;
- the number of motion events;
- how often the live view is used;
- how frequently the floodlights activate; and
- Wi-Fi strength and operating temperature.
A camera watching a quiet backyard and recording occasional motion events has a very different energy requirement from one covering a busy driveway, repeatedly switching on its lights and being viewed remotely throughout the day.

- AWARD-WINNING HOME SECURITY: The Tapo C615F KIT was rated WIRED's Best Budget Floodlight Camera in 2026 for its impressive features at a value, including pan/tilt control, convenient solar charging, and subscription-free AI detection.
- FLOODLIGHT, PAN/TILT, AND SOLAR-POWERED BATTERY CAM ALL-IN-ONE. 800-lumen motion-activated floodlight illuminates your area. Pan/Tilt delivers 360° views. Solar-powered keeps it running maintenance-free.
- ILLUMINATES AND PROTECTS: The dimmable floodlight and 2K resolution provide great clarity day and night for your space, such as your porch, yard, or driveway. 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi required.
- COMPLETE AREA COVERAGE: Enjoy 360º horizontal and 130º vertical views with pan/tilt, letting you monitor more space. The camera's field of view is greater than the mechanical pan/tilt range.
- SET IT UP ONCE. THE SUN HANDLES THE REST. Just 45 minutes of direct sunlight powers the camera for a full day of use, while the built-in battery lasts up to 140 days on a single charge during cloudy days. Solar charging requires temperatures above 32°F.
The fixed panel simplifies the installation because there is no separate panel, cable or additional bracket. However, it also restricts positioning. A separate, angle-adjustable panel can often be aimed at the best available sunlight while the camera is aimed at the area that needs monitoring. TechRadar’s independent review identified this fixed-panel arrangement as an important practical consideration.

Suppose a camera is mounted beneath a north-facing eave or under a deep overhang. The camera may have an excellent view of a doorway, but the panel could receive little useful sunlight. In that situation, the Solar Floodlight Cam may need regular USB-C charging despite its solar design.
Before drilling, check the exact panel position at different times of day. A sunny-looking wall can still be shaded by a roofline or nearby tree for most of the year. The panel also needs occasional cleaning, and the camera may need a temporary USB-C recharge if energy use exceeds solar input.

Reolink Cloud remains available as an optional service in selected countries. Cloud storage can help preserve footage if the camera or its microSD card is stolen, but availability and pricing vary by region. TechRadar reported UK pricing of roughly £2.71 per month for a single-device plan and around £2.87 for a higher tier at the time of its review; check the current Reolink Cloud plans before buying.
Local storage is not the same as off-site backup. If someone removes the camera, damages it or takes the card, footage stored only inside the camera may be lost. A Home Hub or NVR provides more centralised storage, but it adds hardware, cost and setup complexity.
How it performs in everyday use
Independent testing found the daytime image quality solid rather than exceptional. The 2K/4MP resolution is suitable for general awareness of people, vehicles and activity, but it does not provide the fine detail of Reolink’s 4K alternatives.
Night performance benefits more noticeably from the floodlights. The two adjustable lights can produce up to 1,000 lumens, with colour temperature adjustable between 3,000K and 6,000K. That output can deter unwanted activity and produce useful colour footage, although frequent activation also increases power consumption. The 110dB siren is another deterrent feature rather than a substitute for a monitored alarm system.
TechRadar found the app’s recording timeline accessible and noted the inclusion of time-lapse mode, which could be useful for monitoring construction progress, landscaping or other long-running outdoor work. The review also found that motion sensitivity may need tuning: moving objects such as washing could trigger false alerts at the default setting.
Installation checklist
Before fitting the camera, make sure you have:
- a secure wall, eave, post or other mounting surface;
- usable Wi-Fi at the intended position;
- sunlight reaching the fixed panel;
- a compatible microSD card if local recording is required;
- a phone or computer running the Reolink app or client; and
- a safe way to access the camera if the card needs to be removed.
A sensible setup sequence is:
- Charge the camera before mounting.
- Insert and format the microSD card if you intend to record locally.
- Pair the camera through the Reolink app and connect it to the strongest suitable Wi-Fi network.
- Apply available firmware updates before final installation.
- Test live view, notifications, detection and night coverage at the proposed location.
- Orient the fixed panel toward the best available sunlight while maintaining the required camera view.
- Configure person, vehicle, animal and general-motion detection according to the site.
- Set floodlight brightness, colour temperature, activation behaviour and siren preferences.
- Reduce sensitivity or create schedules if foliage, traffic, washing lines or wildlife cause unwanted alerts.
- Confirm that recordings are being written to the chosen storage destination.
Mobile app labels can change with firmware and app updates, so use the current on-screen instructions during setup.

Common problems and fixes
The battery keeps falling
First check the battery level and charging history in the app. Then inspect the panel for dirt, shade and poor orientation. Reduce unnecessary detection categories, lower floodlight brightness or activation frequency, and limit prolonged live viewing. If the mounting point receives consistently poor sunlight, move the unit, recharge it through USB-C when needed or choose a wired model or a camera with a separately positionable solar panel.

There are too many false alerts
Lower motion sensitivity, disable general-motion detection if the more specific person, vehicle and animal categories are sufficient, use schedules and adjust detection zones where supported. Avoid aiming the camera directly at trees, roads, reflective surfaces or washing lines.
The Wi-Fi connection is unreliable
Test the camera at the final position before drilling. A 2.4GHz connection generally offers better range than 5GHz, while router or mesh placement may improve reliability. A strong phone signal at the location does not necessarily mean the camera has a strong Wi-Fi connection.
For gates, farms, outbuildings or other locations without dependable Wi-Fi, a cellular model such as the Reolink Go Ultra may be more appropriate, although cellular data costs and coverage become part of the decision.
There is no footage
Check that a microSD card is installed, formatted and recognised. Also check whether the card is full, whether overwrite is enabled and whether the camera is configured for the desired event types. Local recording alone will not provide cloud history or an off-site copy.

How it compares with alternatives
Reolink Argus PT Ultra
The Argus PT Ultra offers 4K video, 355° pan and 140° tilt, making it better where the camera needs to cover a changing area. It is less suitable if the main requirement is an integrated floodlight unit.
Reolink Argus 4 Pro
The Argus 4 Pro provides 4K, 180° coverage and ColorX low-light performance. It uses a compatible external Reolink Solar Panel 2, which offers more flexibility in panel positioning but requires an additional component and a different installation.
Reolink TrackFlex Floodlight WiFi
The TrackFlex Floodlight WiFi is the stronger choice for a permanent mains-powered installation. It adds 4K dual-lens video, 6× hybrid zoom, 360° pan/tilt tracking, up to 3,000 lumens and local AI video search. It is more capable, but it needs wired power and is not the simple wire-free option.

The Go Ultra uses 4G LTE, 4K video, battery power and solar support. It is designed for remote locations without reliable Wi-Fi, but cellular connectivity introduces data-plan and coverage considerations. It also does not offer the Solar Floodlight Cam’s integrated floodlight design.
Reolink Elite Pro Floodlight PoE
The Elite Pro Floodlight PoE is aimed at more serious permanent surveillance systems, with PoE installation, 16MP dual-lens video, 180° panorama and up to 2,800-lumen adjustable floodlights. It is unsuitable where Ethernet cabling is impractical or a renter-friendly installation is required.
Who should buy the Solar Floodlight Cam?
It is a strong fit if you have a sunny, Wi-Fi-covered mounting point and want a single unit that combines outdoor lighting, motion alerts and local recording. It is especially appealing when avoiding a mandatory monthly subscription matters more than having cloud backup.
It is less suitable for shaded walls, locations with weak Wi-Fi, heavy-use sites needing dependable 24/7 recording, or buyers who require 4K detail, optical zoom, pan/tilt or subject tracking. It is also the wrong choice if the fixed panel cannot be aimed toward useful sunlight.
