The trail organization lists construction in 2026 without giving an opening date. The county’s June notice says work began the week of June 8; its November date is a schedule, not confirmation of completion.
What the November date does—and doesn’t—confirm
The county’s construction notice identifies November 2026 as the expected end of the road resurfacing project. A county update index confirms construction began the week of June 8, 2026, but does not provide a Red Arrow-specific progress report or completion confirmation. As of October 7, 2026, the published information supports describing November as the announced schedule—not saying work is nearly finished or complete.
The trail has a separate schedule. Friends of Berrien County Trails lists the Bridgman–Stevensville trail work as a 2026 project, but does not specify a November completion or public opening date. The road and trail are coordinated projects, not one shared completion milestone.
What is included in the highway reconstruction
The work covers Red Arrow Highway in Lake and Lincoln Townships, between Bridgman city limits and Stevensville village limits. The county describes drainage improvements and resurfacing, plus a four-lane-to-three-lane reconfiguration from the traffic signal at the DC Cook Nuclear Plant to the Village of Stevensville.

During construction, the county said lane closures would leave one lane open in each direction. Its notice instructs drivers to follow posted work-zone signage; traffic controls may change as work progresses. Lincoln Charter Township’s April 17, 2026 notice corroborates the project scope and schedule, but also does not establish current completion status.
Where the new bike trail will go
Friends of Berrien County Trails describes the current work as a four-mile multi-use trail segment along the west side of Red Arrow Highway, connecting Bridgman and Stevensville. The group says the trail is being designed alongside the highway reconstruction and will fit within county road right-of-way after the road loses one travel lane.

The organization lists planned trailhead parking at Haymarket Brewery and Peat’s Cider Social, with a sign and three bike racks at each site. A bike repair station is also planned at Peat’s. These are plans reported on the organization’s project page; the page does not state when the facilities or trail will open.

Friends of Berrien County Trails describes a 17.5-mile goal connecting New Buffalo with Shoreham. Its undated project page, accessed October 7, 2026, reports 9.5 miles built or existing, four miles in the current Bridgman–Stevensville project, and four miles still proposed. These are the organization’s project figures, not independent measurements.

The group says the current segment is fully funded through a $3,096,048 Michigan Transportation Alternatives grant obtained by Berrien County with support from the Southwest Michigan Planning Commission and Friends of Berrien County Trails. Berrien County is to own the new section, while Lake and Lincoln Townships are to maintain it. The organization says funding is still needed for other gaps in the broader route.

What drivers and trail users can rely on now
- Drivers: The published road schedule points to November 2026, but no reviewed update confirms the project’s present stage. Follow signs and on-site traffic controls rather than relying on an old lane-closure description.
- Trail users: The planned route is a four-mile west-side connection between Bridgman and Stevensville. The trail organization gives no confirmed completion or opening date, so do not assume it will be ready in November.
- Anyone following the schedule: Check Berrien County’s project updates and the trail organization’s Red Arrow project page for newer information. The county’s June notice and the township’s April notice are schedule announcements, not live status reports.
