Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The Hackster.io project published June 13, 2022 describes a locally operated voice-controlled gas-stove prototype built with an Infineon PSoC 6 microcontroller and Picovoice speech models. It is a maker demonstration—not a finished consumer appliance, a validated method for modifying a household stove, or a safety-certified product.
How the voice control works
The project uses two stages of on-device speech recognition. Picovoice Porcupine listens for the wake phrase “Hey Stove”; after activation, Picovoice Rhino recognizes speech as an intended command. The author says voice recognition operates without cloud connectivity. That describes operation of the prototype, not the entire development workflow: the walkthrough uses Picovoice Console to generate models for the PSoC 6 platform and incorporates them into a ModusToolbox project.

Hardware in the demonstrated build
| Component | Role described in the project |
|---|---|
| Infineon PSoC 62S2 Wi-Fi BT Pioneer Kit, CY8CKIT-062S2-43012 | Development board and PSoC 6 platform. |
| Infineon IoT Sense Expansion Kit, CY8CKIT-028-SENSE | Microphone and audio-codec expansion board. |
| Two servo motors | One adjusts the gas valve; the other pulls the piezo igniter lever. |
| DFRobot voice playback module, Beetle board and enclosed speaker | Separate assembly for spoken feedback; UART messages to the Beetle board select MP3 playback. |
| DC-DC buck converter and LM7809 linear regulator | Power components. The project describes a 9 V supply for the Pioneer board and 5 V for servos and playback hardware. |
| Portable gas stove and fabrication supplies | Additional parts and materials listed for the prototype. |
The author describes two PWM outputs driving the servos, a low-power timer tracking cooking time, and GPIO and LEDs indicating wake-word or intent detection. These are descriptions of the build, not independent measurements or safety tests. The DFRobot community version, dated June 16, 2022, also describes the project and credits the Hackster article; it is corroborating coverage, not independent validation: DFRobot community project page.
#1 Best Overall
- HIGH EFFICIENCY - ChangBERT Induction cooktop offers 9 preset power levels (200-1800W) and 18 preset temperature settings (120-460℉, 20F per level). With an 83% energy efficiency rating, the induction cooker is more efficient than traditional gas or electric stoves, providing quick heat-up and faster cooking times.
- CONSISTENTLY STABLE HIGH-POWER OUTPUT - Built for constant use, it features continuous-duty circuitry for non-stop cooking. The unique power control technology ensures stable high-power output, reduces the temperature of internal electronics, and facilitates low-noise heat dissipation, providing reliable cooking performance. This dependable performance sets it apart from others.
- LARGE COOKING AREA - Features an expanded magnetic coil design that optimizes the winding structure to enhance the transfer of electromagnetic energy directly to the cookware, significantly improving heating efficiency and ensuring more even heat distribution across the bottom of the cookware.
- NSF CERTIFIED & COMMERCIAL GRADE - UL commercial standard 197, completely ETL & NSF approved. It meets industry durability standards, passing a drop test with an impact of 1.5 ft lbs. Designed for large-volume usage, it is ideal for commercial and professional settings such as restaurants, industrial kitchens, and other catering services.
- EASY TO CONTROL & CLEAN - The control buttons with solid tactile response make operation intuitive and precise. With simple and clear display, the Key-Press-Control Panel provides clear visibility and easy control, even with gloves or wet hands. With no open flame or heating element, food does not burn onto the glass cooktop, making it easy to clean greasy dirt.
What it is designed to do
- Start or stop a burner.
- Adjust the flame.
- Set a burner timer.
- Provide spoken voice feedback.
The author’s approximate cost statement was “Around $50 of extra hardware” (project author Shahariar, 2022). It is a historical estimate, not a current bill of materials or price; the author also says the Pioneer Kit was provided. Availability and compatibility of the named components should be checked before attempting any maker project. Buying a development kit alone does not provide a complete stove-control system.
What the project does not establish about safety
The project does not document consumer safety validation or certification. In particular, its feature description does not establish that the demonstrated build detects a failed ignition, gas leakage, flame loss, spills, or unsafe temperature, or that it includes overcook protection. Those functions are mentioned as possible future additions, along with support for multiple burners—not as demonstrated capabilities.

- PORTABLE INDUCTION BURNER: Duxtop induction cooktop uses 110/120 V 15 amp electrical outlet–standard in all North American homes. ETL listed and built to North American electrical standards. It is lightweight and compact for easy handling and storage
- Choose from 20 preset power levels (100 to 1800 W) and 20 preset temperature level settings (100 °F to 460 °F). With an 83% energy efficiency, induction burner is more efficient than traditional gas or electric stoves
- DIGITAL LCD SENSOR: Touch control panel: child safety lock keeps the cooking and timer settings from being accidentally changed once they have been set; fast boil button; keep warm button (for 1-30 minutes at 140 °F); up to 10-hour timer button
- Induction stoves rely on cookware to heat, so it’s essential to choose magnetic bottom cookware with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. Auto-pan detection will shut off automatically after 60 seconds if no cookware, or the incorrect cookware is detected
- Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning
Because the prototype actuates a gas valve and igniter, it should not be treated as instructions for converting or modifying a household gas appliance. The project itself frames the demo as an initial step: its author wrote, “My demo project is just the starting point for anyone willing to turn this into a real world product” (Shahariar, Hackster.io, 2022). A real product would require safety engineering and validation beyond the features described here.

“Without internet connectivity” refers to the project’s claim about voice recognition during operation. It does not mean no online tools or downloads are needed to build the system: the described workflow includes using Picovoice Console to generate the speech models and downloading a demo application. The article does not provide an independent test of offline performance or a benchmark for recognition accuracy.
