Polaroid 50-inch 4K Alexa TV at £269 from Asda: is it worth buying?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verdict: the reported £269 Asda price is not independently confirmed as a live, nationwide offer. The likely television is the Polaroid P50UPF2024A, a budget 50-inch 4K Fire TV with Alexa and reported AirPlay support. It could suit a second room, rental property or inexpensive living-room setup—but check the model number, condition, warranty and current price before paying.

Is the £269 Asda deal genuine?

The price should be treated as a reported or claimed deal price, not a confirmed live offer. The available evidence does not establish that a brand-new Polaroid 50-inch Alexa TV was nationally available from Asda for exactly £269 on 16 August 2026.

  • a new retail unit;
  • clearance stock;
  • an opened or open-box television;
  • a refurbished product; or
  • stock held only in selected stores.

Also check whether £269 excludes delivery, depends on a voucher or rewards promotion, has an end date, or refers only to a previous promotion. A saving against a stated RRP is not necessarily a saving against the television’s recent selling price.

The closest model match appears to be the P50UPF2024A. A third-party listing gives it an RRP of £349.99, while an Asda Outlet listing has shown an opened-but-unused example at £209.99. Neither confirms a new £269 Asda retail unit. See the Asda Outlet listing and the P50UPF2024A product description for the distinction.

Check the model number before comparing specifications

Polaroid has several different 50-inch televisions associated with Asda. They are not interchangeable:

Model What available listings indicate
P50UPF2024A 4K LED Fire TV with Alexa and reported AirPlay support
P50URF1315U 50-inch 4K Roku TV
P50UPF2032A Another 50-inch 4K HDR Fire TV variant
P50UA2031A / P50UPA2031A Separate Polaroid models documented in Asda-hosted manuals

A Roku television is not the same product as a Fire TV, even if both are 50-inch 4K sets. Do not rely on a headline, product photograph or generic search result alone.

Likely P50UPF2024A specifications

The following are listed specifications from retailer descriptions, not a confirmed current Asda specification sheet. Confirm them against the exact product page or manual:

Screen 50-inch LED panel
Resolution 4K Ultra HD, 3840 × 2160
Refresh rate 60Hz
HDR HDR, HLG and Dolby Vision are claimed in listings
Smart platform Amazon Fire TV
Voice features Built-in Alexa integration; exact hands-free capability needs checking
Connectivity Three HDMI inputs, USB, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and headphone output are listed
Audio Optical audio output and Dolby/DTS-related support are listed; eARC is not established
Wireless casting AirPlay is reported by third-party listings
Approximate size 112.5cm wide × 69.7cm high × 26.1cm deep
Approximate weight 16kg

Dimensions can include the stand, so check the retailer’s measurements before ordering a cabinet or wall mount.

What Alexa means on this TV

“With Alexa” does not automatically mean the television has an always-listening microphone like an Echo speaker. It may mean voice search through the remote, control from an existing Alexa device, or both.

An Asda-hosted Polaroid manual for a related model describes enabling the TV’s Alexa skill, linking accounts and configuring the television as a DART device in the Alexa app. Examples include switching inputs, launching apps, changing channels and controlling power. That documentation is useful context, but it should not be treated as proof that every function applies to the P50UPF2024A.

Before buying, establish whether the exact model:

  • has a microphone in the remote, the television, or both;
  • needs a separate Echo device for hands-free control;
  • requires an Amazon account;
  • can be controlled when switched off;
  • supports volume, input and app commands; and
  • offers a microphone mute or privacy control.

Fire TV, apps and catch-up services

If the model is genuinely the P50UPF2024A, Fire TV should provide access to major services such as Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube, as listed by retailers. However, “smart TV” does not guarantee every UK catch-up application indefinitely.

Check the exact UK software version for BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4 and My5 before purchase. Also consider Amazon account setup, the responsiveness of the interface, advertising or sponsored content on the home screen, and how long software updates are likely to continue. A streaming stick can provide a fallback if the television’s built-in software becomes outdated, but it adds cost and another remote.

Picture and sound: keep expectations realistic

4K resolution and HDR format support do not make this equivalent to an OLED, QLED or Mini-LED television. The likely model is a standard budget LED set, and there is no evidence here of local dimming, exceptional HDR brightness or premium image processing.

Dolby Vision compatibility means the television can accept that format; it does not prove that highlights will be bright, blacks deep or contrast impressive. Budget sets can also differ substantially in motion processing, upscaling, viewing angles and panel uniformity. No independent hands-on test of the exact P50UPF2024A was identified, so claims about picture quality should remain qualified.

The built-in speakers should handle ordinary programmes, but buyers wanting fuller bass or clearer dialogue may eventually want a soundbar. Check whether the exact unit has HDMI ARC or eARC; the available listing mentions optical output but does not establish eARC.

Is it suitable for gaming and sport?

The listed 60Hz refresh rate makes this a basic rather than high-performance gaming television. There is no verified evidence for 4K at 120Hz, HDMI 2.1, variable refresh rate, automatic low-latency mode or a measured input-lag result.

TCL 50 Inch QM6K Series QLED Mini LED 4K HDR Smart Google TV, 50QM6K, 144Hz | Latest Model, High Brightness, IMAX Enhanced, HDR10, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos Audio, Voice Remote, Premium Gaming
  • QD-Mini LED: This premium level of Mini LED TV, now with the New TCL Halo Control System, ensures a high-quality viewing experience.

It may be adequate for casual console gaming if its input lag is acceptable, but it is not a safe recommendation for competitive players. Sport-focused buyers should also be cautious: refresh rate alone does not determine motion quality, and the set’s processing has not been independently measured.

Price and value context

Do not confuse this claim with an older promotion. TechRadar reported an Asda Polaroid 50-inch 4K television at £259 in May 2020, reduced from £329, with HDR and Dolby Vision mentioned. That was a different deal and does not prove the current product, price or model: TechRadar’s 2020 report.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

At a genuinely available £269, a new P50UPF2024A with a meaningful warranty could be reasonable for shoppers prioritising screen size, 4K resolution and Amazon integration. It should not automatically be called the best 50-inch bargain without checking current prices for comparable Hisense, TCL, Toshiba, Philips, Samsung, LG and Roku sets. Compare actual selling prices, not just RRPs, along with warranty, returns, brightness, smart platform and gaming features.

Buying checklist

  1. Match the model: confirm that the box and receipt say P50UPF2024A, not a Roku or another Polaroid variant.
  2. Confirm condition: establish whether it is new, clearance, open-box or refurbished.
  3. Check the price: record whether £269 includes delivery and whether a promotion or voucher is required.
  4. Check warranty and returns: confirm who provides the warranty, the return period and any clearance exclusions.
  5. Inspect the contents: make sure the remote, stand, screws and power cable are included.
  6. Verify apps: check the current UK availability of BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4 and My5.
  7. Confirm Alexa setup: find out whether voice control needs an Echo device or Amazon account linking.
  8. Measure first: check the TV, stand, doorway and cabinet dimensions; a 50-inch set may require two-person handling.
  9. For wall mounting: confirm the exact VESA pattern, weight and screw requirements.
  10. For a soundbar: check HDMI ARC/eARC or optical compatibility before ordering.

Final verdict

Buy at £269 if the listing is live, the unit is new, the model is confirmed as P50UPF2024A and you want an inexpensive 50-inch streaming TV rather than premium picture quality.

Wait or compare if sport, HDR performance, viewing angles or gaming matters. The 60Hz specification and lack of verified gaming measurements make this a cautious choice.

Skip it if the price is stale, the model number is missing, or the television is open-box without clear warranty and return protection. The deal is potentially good value, but the evidence does not justify calling it an unqualified bargain.
