PODS dimensions are approximate exterior measurements; actual fleet models can vary slightly. The square-footage ranges below are rough household-fit guidance, not usable interior floor area. What fits depends on your belongings, furniture and packing efficiency.

These are starting points, not a guarantee that a particular home’s contents will fit. PODS’ size guidance suggests an 8-ft container for a studio or dorm, and a 12- or 16-ft container for a one-bedroom apartment depending on furnishings and whether the move is local. A 16-ft container is suggested for many average-furnished two-bedroom moves. Larger homes may need more than one container. Weather protection and tie-downs
PODS describes its containers as weather-resistant, not completely waterproof: they are designed to protect belongings from typical rain and snow and keep items dry under most circumstances. Most containers have interior-wall eyelets spaced about every four feet; newer containers feature e-track slots. Equipment can vary, and customers provide their own straps. Check the details for the unit you’ll receive in the official container-size information.

PODS’ official storage FAQ says on-site storage on your property can cost as low as $149 per month or more. It also says delivery and pickup fees average $74.99, and that in many cases those fees may be waived depending on rental duration. Moving prices are individualized. PODS says cost depends on factors including container size and number, distance, timeframe and season. Storage location also matters: the container might remain at your home or be kept at a storage center. PODS’ cost page says a move includes one month of storage; additional rental time and service-specific charges should be checked in your written quote. What to compare in quotes
To make a useful comparison, ask providers to quote the same origin and destination, requested dates, container count and storage duration. Confirm whether the container stays at your home or goes to a storage center, which delivery and pickup charges apply, and what is included in the quoted storage period. A low monthly storage figure alone does not tell you the total move cost.

For delivery of its largest container, PODS specifies a flat, unobstructed clearance of 12 feet wide × 15 feet high × 40 feet long; part of the maneuvering area may include the street. Review the current delivery requirements and discuss site conditions before scheduling. If you live in an apartment or condo, get building-management approval and confirm rules on placement and how long a container may remain.

PODS rents containers by the month. The rental period includes time in your driveway, at a storage center or en route during a move. If the unit is stored at a facility, confirm its location, access hours and local policies before booking; access arrangements may differ from keeping the container at home.
PODS versus self-storage
Neither option is automatically cheaper. Compare the full local cost and the amount of work involved, rather than comparing a container’s monthly rate with a self-storage unit price. A portable container is delivered to you and can reduce repeated loading and unloading; self-storage generally offers a wider range of unit sizes and climate-controlled choices, according to PODS’ comparison.

Packing supplies and safe loading
For a PODS container, useful supplies include boxes, packing tape, mattress covers, moving blankets or furniture wrap, and rope or cargo straps to secure the load. PODS recommends labeling boxes, reinforcing box bottoms, placing heavier items lower, distributing weight and securing belongings as you fill the container.
