The Plage des Nations Mosque, designed by OUALALOU+CHOI in Sidi Bouknadel, Morocco, brings white concrete arches and a patterned façade screen together with Moroccan craft references. Its sloping site gives the building two different readings: a landmark from the roadway and an esplanade from within the site, according to the architects.
Where is the Plage des Nations Mosque, and who designed it?
The mosque is at Plage des Nations in Sidi Bouknadel, Morocco. OUALALOU+CHOI announced it as newly delivered in June 2026. The firm reports a net floor area of 1,578 m²; the accessible announcement excerpt does not show the year of that figure.

White arches and a moucharabieh screen
White concrete arches establish the building’s structural language. A perforated white façade screen, identified by the architects as a moucharabieh, draws on traditional Moroccan patterns. OUALALOU+CHOI says the screen filters sunlight and produces changing shadows. These are the design team’s descriptions; published sources cited here do not provide independent measurements of its daylight or environmental performance.

Wooden maqṣura and minimalist minaret
Inside, the architects highlight a wooden maqṣura—a defined architectural feature associated with the prayer space—with geometric patterns. A contemporary, minimalist minaret provides a distinct vertical element. Together, these details connect the mosque’s modern architectural language with familiar forms and motifs without reproducing a historical style wholesale.
How does the slope change the building’s presence?
OUALALOU+CHOI says the steep slope allows the mosque to appear monumental at the scale of the roadway while reading as a simple esplanade when seen from inside the site. This is the design team’s account of its site strategy: the building’s perceived scale changes with the viewer’s position and the terrain, rather than relying on one fixed approach.

How does the mosque relate to the wider Plage des Nations district?
The mosque sits within a broader coastal territory, but its building design should be distinguished from the district’s separate landscape masterplan. PAN Landscape’s project page describes a 508-hectare Plage des Nations and Bouknadel masterplan for 2023–2025, commissioned by Prestigia, with T. Oualalou Architecte / PAN named for project management.
