Philips Universal Remote Codes: Find the Right Code and Program Your Remote

Philips universal remote codes are model-specific. Identify the complete remote model, use Philips’ official Code Finder, then program and test the device.

There is no single code that works with every Philips universal remote. The correct code depends on the exact Philips remote model, the device category, the device brand, and sometimes the region. Start with the official Philips Universal Remote Control Code Finder.

Use the complete remote model number—including its slash suffix—before selecting a code. A Philips TV code for a third-party remote is a different thing from a code entered into a Philips-branded universal remote.

Look for the model number inside the battery compartment, on the front or rear housing, on the original packaging, or in the manual. Examples include SRP3013/27, SRP3014/27, SRP5018/27, SRP2003WM/17, SRP2014A/27, SRP5107WM/17, and SRU2103/27.

The suffix matters. A North American /27 model may use a different code database or setup procedure from a /10, /17, or /87 regional variant. Do not assume that a code for one Philips remote applies to another.

Use the official Philips code finder

  1. Open the Philips Code Finder.
  2. Select the exact remote model.
  3. Select the device type, such as TV, DVD, Blu-ray, cable, satellite, soundbar, or streaming device.
  4. Select the device brand and record every code shown.
  5. Try the codes in the order provided.

Philips also supplies model-specific manuals and code lists. For models including the SRP3013/27, SRP3014/27, and SRP5018/27, Philips directs users to an “Important Information Manual” containing the code list. See Philips’ code-list support page.

Why Philips remote-code lists differ

A remote code is a stored infrared command profile. It tells the remote which signal pattern to send for a particular device brand and category.

Backlit Universal Remote Control by GE, Works for Samsung, Vizio, TCL, HiSense, Sony, RCA, Panasonic, Roku, Apple TV, Smart TVs, Streaming Players, Blu-Ray, DVD, 4-Device, Black, 40081

Code lists differ because Philips universal remotes differ. Some use three-digit, four-digit, or five-digit formats; the format belongs to the specific remote and its manual. Do not add or remove leading zeroes, or convert a code from another remote brand, unless the applicable instructions explicitly say to do so.

Device type matters too. A brand may have separate entries for TV, DTV, cable box, satellite receiver, DVD player, Blu-ray player, DVR, soundbar, or audio receiver. A TV code normally cannot replace a soundbar or DVD code simply because both devices carry the same brand name.

Philips remote models are not interchangeable

The SRP3013/27 is described by Philips as a three-in-one remote for TV, set-top box, and Blu-ray. The SRP5018/27 is an eight-in-one model with claims covering soundbars and selected streaming devices. Those capabilities do not make their code lists interchangeable.

How to program a Philips universal remote

Direct code entry

The exact buttons vary, but a representative procedure is:

  1. Turn on the device manually.
  2. Press and hold the appropriate device key—such as TV, DVD, CBL, SAT, or AUX—with Setup or the model’s programming key.
  3. Wait for the indicator light to enter setup mode.
  4. Enter the code from the exact model-specific list.
  5. Point the remote at the device and test Power, Volume, Channel, Input/Menu, and navigation.
  6. If only some functions work, try the next code for that brand.

The Philips SRU4010 manual, for example, documents a four-digit entry procedure and recommends trying another code when the device responds only partially. Record the successful code for later use.

  • BROAD DEVICE COMPATIBILITY — Fully backlit universal remote works with thousands of devices from major brands; not compatible with RF-only devices such as Roku Streaming Sticks and Amazon Fire TV Sticks

SimpleSetup or brand setup

Some models use Philips SimpleSetup. Philips describes a process in which you enter a brand code and then press or hold Power until the device turns off. Test the remaining controls afterward. This applies only to models that document SimpleSetup, such as the SRP2003WM/17 and SRP5004/87; it is not a universal sequence for every Philips remote.

Automatic code search

Some remotes can search their stored codes:

  1. Turn on the device.
  2. Select the correct device mode.
  3. Start the automatic-search procedure in the model’s manual.
  4. Press or hold Power or Channel Up as instructed.
  5. Stop when the device responds or turns off.
  6. Save the code using the confirmation key.
  7. Test all important functions.

The first code that turns a TV off may not control volume, input, menus, or navigation. If the controls are incomplete, repeat the search or try the next listed code.

Philips TV codes on a non-Philips universal remote

If the remote is made by RCA, GE/Jasco, One For All, Comcast/Xfinity, DirecTV, or a cable provider, you need that manufacturer’s code list. A Philips TV does not have one code that works with every universal remote; the code belongs to the remote manufacturer’s database.

  • FULLY BACKLIT WITH A STYLISH FINISH — The brushed graphite finish adds sophistication to any décor; blue LED backlighting helps you see each button easily in dark or dimly lit rooms

Philips also documents a four-digit RC-code procedure for certain television models, but its support instructions should not be generalized to every Philips TV or third-party remote.

When a code does not work

No indicator light

  • Replace both batteries and check their polarity.
  • Confirm that you are using the correct programming key sequence.
  • Verify the exact model number and consult its manual.
  • Try the official Philips Code Finder.

The code is rejected

  • Check that the code has the required number of digits.
  • Select the correct device mode before entering it.
  • Re-enter the code from the exact model-specific list.
  • Do not use a code copied from another Philips remote model.
  • Check the indicator-light meaning in the manual.

Power works, but other buttons do not

  1. Try the next code for the same brand and device category.
  2. Run automatic search again if the remote supports it.
  3. Test from close range with the remote aimed at the infrared sensor.
  4. Check whether the device uses Bluetooth, radio frequency, Wi-Fi, or another proprietary protocol.

Basic infrared control is not the same as full replacement of a smart remote. Voice search, Bluetooth pairing, app shortcuts, motion control, and advanced smart-TV features may not be available.

Streaming devices and compatibility limits

Do not assume that every Philips universal remote controls every Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, or Google TV device. Some streaming sticks use Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or radio frequency rather than infrared. Compatibility is model-specific. For example, a retailer listing for the Philips SRP4322B/27 warns that it is not intended for some Roku Streaming Sticks and Amazon Fire TV Sticks that use radio frequency.

Soundbars and audio receivers also require the correct device category and a remote model that supports that category. The SRP1103/27 specifications, for example, list categories including Blu-ray, cable, DTV, DVD, DVR, satellite, and TV; other models support different combinations.

When replacing the remote makes sense

Try the code finder before buying anything. A replacement may be reasonable if the remote is lost or damaged, its code list is unavailable, it cannot control a newer device, or it provides only basic control.

  • Original device remote: Best for voice, Bluetooth, app, and proprietary smart features.
  • Philips universal remote: Useful when consolidating several conventional infrared devices.
  • Cable-provider remote: Often convenient for a cable box and television, but may support fewer other devices.
  • Smartphone app: Dependent on the device, network, operating system, and sometimes an account.

Check the complete model number, supported device categories, protocol limitations, current stock, price, returns, and regional compatibility before purchasing. Philips support identifies some older SRU models, including the SRU3003WM/17, as discontinued.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
