Philips Hue’s “new Bridge” is no longer coming. The Hue Bridge Pro launched in September 2025 and now sits above the standard Hue Bridge in Philips Hue’s range. In the US, Philips Hue listed the Bridge Pro at $139.99 and the standard Bridge at $59.99 on August 18, 2026.
The Pro model delivers the biggest improvements in capacity, multi-Bridge migration and advanced features. It does not, however, turn Hue into a completely local, offline or universally compatible smart-home system. Here is how it measures up against five improvements longtime Hue users wanted.

First, which Hue Bridge are we talking about?
The Hue Bridge v2 is the familiar square white hub. It remains on sale and supports the core Hue experience, including Zigbee lighting, automations, remote control, voice assistants and Matter.

The discontinued Bridge v1 was the round model. Philips Hue says it is no longer supported for online services or software updates. Details are available in the company’s end-of-support policy.
Bridge Pro is a premium successor, not an immediate replacement. Philips Hue continues to sell both models.
1. More capacity and fewer multi-Bridge compromises
This is the clearest Bridge Pro upgrade. The standard Bridge is listed for up to 50 lights and 12 accessories. Bridge Pro raises those figures to 150 lights and 50 accessories.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →That matters in larger homes where multi-bulb fixtures, outdoor lights, light strips, plugs, switches and sensors quickly consume the old limit. Multiple Bridges can divide rooms and floors, complicate automations and scenes, and create problems for entertainment areas and third-party integrations.
Bridge Pro’s larger capacity can consolidate a substantial installation into one hub. It is especially compelling for existing multi-Bridge households and anyone planning an ambitious Hue system.
These are maximum device counts, not a guarantee that every combination of lights, accessories, scenes and integrations will behave identically. Third-party platforms may also impose their own limits.
Verdict: delivered well. For a small apartment, this changes little. For a large Hue installation, it is the strongest reason to upgrade.
2. A migration process that does not require rebuilding the home
A higher-capacity hub is much less useful if moving to it means pairing every bulb and recreating every automation. Users reasonably want to preserve rooms, zones, names, scenes, accessories, entertainment areas and voice integrations.
Philips Hue supports migrating multiple existing Bridges to Bridge Pro. Signify says users can select multiple Bridges during installation and migrate additional Bridges later, provided the new system remains within its capacity.
That is important, but it should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every configuration element transfers perfectly in every app version. Philips Hue’s Bridge Pro release notes show that migration functionality has continued to evolve.
Before migrating
- Update the Hue app and existing Bridge firmware.
- Check that every light and accessory responds normally.
- Record unusual automations, custom scenes and third-party integrations.
- Keep the old Bridge until every room, scene and integration has been tested.
- Be prepared to check or re-authorise Matter and voice-assistant connections.
Verdict: partly delivered. Multi-Bridge migration exists, but the practical question is whether it preserves your entire configuration—not merely whether devices can be moved.

- WHAT'S IN THE BOX: This starter kit includes one Hue Bridge Pro, a Hue tap dial smart switch for lights, and three A19 E26 LED smart bulbs that produce cool-to-warm and full-color light.

3. More processing power for complex features
Philips Hue describes Bridge Pro as having a more powerful processor capable of running complex algorithms and AI-powered features. Signify also positions it as a faster hub with greater processing capacity. Launch coverage has reported claims of roughly five times the processing power and 15 times the memory; those are attributed product claims, not independent latency measurements.
The hardware enables features including:
- MotionAware, which analyses changes in Zigbee signals between Hue devices to detect movement.
- Hue SpatialAware, which uses a phone or tablet camera to map light positions in a room.
- AI-assisted scene and automation creation.
- More processing headroom for future Hue software.
That does not mean every ordinary on/off command is visibly five times faster. Basic Hue lighting was already responsive for many homes, and no controlled test should be inferred from processor specifications alone.
Verdict: promising. Advanced users and large systems benefit most. Owners with a few bulbs may notice the new features more than a dramatic improvement in everyday response time.
4. Better local, offline and privacy-respecting operation
This is the major improvement Bridge Pro has not clearly delivered. A premium hub should ideally reduce dependence on cloud services, internet access, account availability and vendor policy changes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPhilips Hue lists both Bridges as working without Wi-Fi, but that phrase needs careful interpretation. The Bridge normally connects to the home network through Ethernet, so Wi-Fi availability is not the same as local-network availability.
Consider the difference between these situations:
- Internet down, local network working: some local lighting control may continue.
- Wi-Fi down, Ethernet and the local network working: the Bridge may still be reachable, depending on how your devices connect.
- Router or local network down: the app and integrations may fail even if the bulbs remain powered.
- Hue cloud service unavailable: remote access and some account-dependent features may fail.
Remote access, voice assistants, Matter commissioning, account services, cameras and AI features can have different requirements. Philips Hue’s public product information does not establish that Bridge Pro provides a completely local-first architecture or that AI processing happens locally.
Verdict: still unresolved. Bridge Pro is more powerful, but it is not a documented cure for cloud dependence. Buyers prioritising local control should look closely at each feature’s network requirements.
5. Interoperability that works beyond a label on the box
Bridge Pro continues Hue’s support for Matter, Apple Home, Alexa, Google Assistant and Samsung SmartThings. Matter can expose Hue products connected through a Bridge to compatible smart-home platforms.
However, Matter support does not guarantee that every Hue scene, effect, accessory or advanced control appears identically in every ecosystem. Philips Hue also says Bluetooth-connected products cannot use Matter through the Bridge.
Reliability needs to be judged in practice. Philips Hue’s April 2026 Bridge Pro release notes documented a Matter connection problem and instructed affected users to set up the integration again. That confirms support, but also shows that Matter may require maintenance after software changes.
When evaluating interoperability, check:
- Which lights and accessories appear in the chosen platform.
- Whether scenes and effects transfer or only basic controls.
- How automations behave after firmware updates.
- Whether a failed connection can be restored without rebuilding the Hue system.
Verdict: improved, but not universal. Matter is useful, not magic. The Hue app remains the place to expect the fullest access to Hue-specific features.

Bridge Pro’s two standout features
MotionAware
MotionAware uses changes in the Zigbee signal between Hue devices to detect movement without requiring a dedicated Hue motion sensor. It may reduce the number of sensors needed in some rooms.

Detection may depend on room geometry, light placement and Zigbee conditions. It should not be treated as a security-grade sensor or guaranteed replacement for every presence-detection use case. Compatibility with third-party systems and exposure of raw presence data should be checked before buying for a specific automation.
Hue SpatialAware
Hue SpatialAware uses a smartphone or tablet camera to scan a room and understand where its lights are positioned. The goal is to make supported scenes more spatially coherent instead of applying the same abstract colour pattern without regard to fixture location.
Signify says SpatialAware became available in spring 2026 for Bridge Pro users and works with approximately half of the remastered Scene Gallery scenes. The app guides the scan, and users can update the room model when adding lights.
Its usefulness may vary in open-plan rooms, rooms with mirrors or reflective surfaces, and installations using concealed, indirect or outdoor lighting. The public announcement does not answer every privacy question, such as whether scans are processed locally or uploaded, so privacy-sensitive buyers should not assume the answer.
Bridge Pro versus the standard Bridge
| Feature | Standard Hue Bridge | Hue Bridge Pro |
|---|---|---|
| US price seen August 18, 2026 | $59.99 | $139.99 |
| Maximum lights | Up to 50 | Up to 150 |
| Accessories listed | Up to 12 | Up to 50 |
| Matter | Yes, via Bridge | Yes, via Bridge |
| Main protocols | Zigbee and Bluetooth | Zigbee and Bluetooth |
| Remote control | Yes | Yes |
| Exclusive headline features | Core Hue features | MotionAware, SpatialAware and higher capacity |
The $80 difference is difficult to justify for a home with a dozen lights and no interest in Pro-only features. It may be reasonable compared with buying and managing a second standard Bridge.
Support wording also deserves attention. Philips Hue’s standard Bridge page shows a minimum defined support period of 48 months after introduction, while the Bridge Pro page states at least 36 months from purchase through an authorised reseller. Neither statement means the product will automatically stop working after that period; Philips distinguishes minimum support commitments from its broader end-of-support policy.
Who should buy Bridge Pro?
Buy Bridge Pro if you:
- Already operate more than one Bridge.
- Have, or expect to have, more than 50 Hue lights.
- Want MotionAware or SpatialAware.
- Are building a large Hue, lighting-and-security or entertainment installation.
- Want the hardware platform for future premium Hue features.
Stay with the standard Bridge if you:
- Have a small or conventional Hue installation.
- Are satisfied with current scenes and automations.
- Mainly control Hue through Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa.
- Want the lowest-cost route into the Hue ecosystem.
- Expect a dramatic improvement in ordinary switch response.
Bridge Pro will not fix poor Wi-Fi, a failing router or an unreliable local network. Nor is it the obvious choice for buyers whose primary requirement is a fully documented local-first smart-home controller. Alternatives such as Home Assistant offer stronger local-control flexibility but require considerably more setup and maintenance; systems such as IKEA DIRIGERA, Aqara and Samsung SmartThings serve different priorities rather than acting as direct replacements for Hue’s lighting effects and ecosystem.
The buying verdict
The Bridge Pro fulfils the most practical request: it makes a large Hue system easier to scale and can replace multiple Bridges. Migration support, MotionAware, SpatialAware and stronger processing add genuine value, but their usefulness depends on configuration, software version and feature compatibility.
For most small installations, the $59.99 standard Bridge remains the sensible choice. For large or ambitious Hue homes, the $139.99 Bridge Pro is the better long-term purchase—provided you verify migration, Matter and privacy requirements rather than assuming the new hardware solves every old limitation.
