In July 2024, Perth mother Peta Drury had launched a fundraiser for a playground at ADHD WA’s Mt Claremont hub, intended for children visiting the centre. The report described a proposal—not a public park or a completed playground—and does not establish whether fundraising or construction later moved forward.
What the proposal was
Harriet Flinn’s PerthNow report, published 7 July 2024, said Drury had recently launched a GoFundMe to raise money for a playground on a grassy area at ADHD WA’s new hub in Mt Claremont. It was intended for children visiting the hub. The article did not describe it as an existing public playground, nor did it provide a design, construction schedule or confirmed completion.
Why Drury wanted a place to play
Drury connected the appeal to her family’s experience seeking support for her son Rex. As recounted in the report, Rex had struggled at school; Drury withdrew him, arranged home-school teaching for a term and changed paediatricians while looking for a medication that suited him. These are details of one family’s experience, not evidence about every child with ADHD or a measured assessment of school support.
Drury described the kind of welcome she hoped children would find at the hub: “They need a place to be noisy, to be inquisitive. They need to feel like this is a safe place, that they’re welcome here.” She also said, “I know how much my child suffered with having ADHD at school, and then you can multiply that thousands and thousands of times. My story is not unique.” Both statements were attributed to Drury in the 2024 report; they represent her perspective.

What Rex asked for
Rex named one feature he would enjoy: “I’d love a playground, like one of those monkey bars that spin in circles.” That is a child’s expressed wish, not a published design specification or an expert recommendation. The report does not say whether rotating monkey bars were included in any plan.
What is known about funding and status
PerthNow also reported that ADHD WA welcomed a $39 million State Government investment in child development, including workshops, after moving to Mt Claremont. The report does not say that this investment paid for, or was allocated to, Drury’s playground proposal.

The report is dated 7 July 2024. It does not establish the fundraiser’s later result, whether a design was approved, whether construction began or whether a playground was completed. It therefore cannot support a claim that the project is currently underway or finished, or serve as a current donation instruction.
