Peppermint Grove’s first reported permitted, on-site 3D-printed home is a three-storey luxury residence near Freshwater Bay. Contec Australia reported printing about 530 square metres of concrete wall area, including curved sections, in seven days on a 900-square-metre block. The project was expected to be completed around April 2026, but the available report, published on November 29, 2025, does not independently confirm completion, final cost or the finished pool.
What is being built?
The project is a three-storey residence designed for a family that wanted space for entertaining. It is located near Freshwater Bay in Peppermint Grove, Western Australia, on a block of approximately 900 square metres.

The term “mansion” is descriptive journalism rather than a formal planning or valuation classification. The available report does not establish the home’s final floor area, bedroom and bathroom count, architect, owner, final value or completion status.
PerthNow reported the project on November 29, 2025, describing it as the first permitted and on-site 3D-printed home in Peppermint Grove. That is a narrower claim than being the first 3D-printed house in Australia or Western Australia.

What “3D-printed home” means in this case
The available evidence establishes 3D-printed concrete walls—not a complete house produced by one machine. A computer-aided design is fed to a concrete-printing machine, which deposits the material in successive layers to form the walls.
Other parts of the build would still require conventional construction, engineering and specialist trades, including:
- Foundations, structural preparation and reinforcement
- Floors, slabs and roofing
- Windows, doors and weatherproofing
- Plumbing, electrical services, insulation and interior finishes
- Landscaping, pool systems and final fit-out
Printing can change how walls are formed, but it does not automatically replace the wider building process.
Seven days for the printed walls
Contec said it printed approximately 530 square metres of wall area, with walls about 3.2 metres high, in seven days. The work reportedly continued through heavy rain.

Contec’s managing director said a bricklayer would have taken more than three weeks to complete the same volume of wall work. That is a company estimate, not an independently measured comparison, and the seven-day figure applies to wall printing—not to construction of the entire residence.
Curves and custom detailing
According to Contec, the digital process allows straight and curved walls to be produced at the same cost, while also accommodating patterns, textures, geometric designs, columns and other details. The company also said the method can reduce reliance on formwork, scaffolding, bricklayers’ equipment and temporary propping.

Those are potential advantages rather than guaranteed savings. The result depends on site access, engineering, concrete mix, reinforcement, design changes, approvals, service integration and finishing work. A complex printed shape may be quick to deposit but still require additional engineering or finishing.
Was the pool 3D-printed?
The report said Contec planned to print landscaping elements on site, including planter boxes, outdoor seating and a swimming pool. Contec’s managing director described the proposed pool as potentially Australia’s first 3D-printed pool.

The source does not confirm that the pool was completed or that it became an Australian first. The gardens and pool were reported as being designed by landscape architect Tristan Peirce.
Could 3D printing make the home cheaper?
Contec promoted 3D printing as faster and cheaper than traditional construction, citing possible reductions in formwork, scaffolding, equipment and labour time. However, no Peppermint Grove construction budget, conventional tender comparison, final cost per square metre or verified whole-of-house saving was disclosed.
It would therefore be misleading to say the mansion was cheaper to build. The project demonstrates the potential of rapid wall construction, but it does not prove that a luxury three-storey home—or ordinary housing generally—will cost less when all construction stages are included.
Claims about strength, emissions and durability
Contec also claimed that its concrete mix produces 30 per cent less carbon dioxide, and that printed homes can be more than three times stronger than standard brickwork. The report does not provide the baseline, system boundary, testing method, material comparison or independent certification needed to assess those statements.

The company further claimed fire, water, termite and cyclone resistance. Such performance must be assessed through the relevant engineering evidence and project-specific compliance documentation; it should not be treated as a general property of every 3D-printed building.
How it compares with Western Australia’s Tapping project
The Peppermint Grove residence should not be confused with a separate Contec project in Tapping. PerthNow reported that the Tapping home had three bedrooms, two bathrooms, occupied a 140-square-metre block, took five months to build and sold for $700,000 in September 2025.

The $700,000 figure is a reported property sale price, not a general 3D-printing service price or proof of construction savings. The report also said the home cost significantly less to construct than a comparable double-brick home, but did not provide an independently audited comparison.

- What engineering certification and building approvals apply?
- How will reinforcement, services, insulation and waterproofing be handled?
- Does the quoted saving cover the entire project or only wall construction?
- What warranty, defect-remediation and maintenance arrangements apply?
- Will lenders, insurers and future buyers accept the construction method?
- Can conventional trades repair, modify or extend the structure later?
- What evidence supports any claims about strength, emissions, fire, termites, water or cyclones?
A specialist printer also needs suitable site access, equipment positioning and a reliable supply of the specified concrete mix. The method may be poorly suited to a small renovation, a constrained site or a project without room for specialist machinery.
What remains unknown
The supplied report gives an expected completion date of April 2026, not a verified completion update. It also does not confirm the final cost, finished floor area, occupancy, structural testing, approval documentation, insurance arrangements, resale status or completion of the proposed pool and landscaping.
Those gaps matter because a fast wall-printing phase is not the same as a fast or inexpensive whole-house build. They also mean the Peppermint Grove project should be viewed as a notable demonstration of concrete wall printing in a high-end residence—not as proof that 3D printing has replaced conventional construction or solved housing affordability.
