Madeiguincho’s Pego is a 5 m (16 ft) tiny house installed in rural Alentejo, Portugal. The timber-clad home puts its living area, kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor, with a double-bed loft above. Its roof has solar panels, but the published feature does not provide the equipment specifications or performance data needed to verify how independently it can operate.
A compact timber home on a double-axle trailer
New Atlas reported the Pego as 5 m (16 ft) long in its May 13, 2024 feature. Madeiguincho built it on a double-axle trailer and finished it in wood inside and out. Windows and doors have shutters, giving the exterior a consistent timber character.
The short footprint makes the arrangement especially consequential: the design combines the main living and kitchen functions in one space, places the bathroom at ground level, and uses a loft for sleeping.
How the Pego is arranged
Living and kitchen
The main room serves as both lounge and kitchen. An L-shaped sofa includes integrated storage, while the kitchen has cabinetry, a sink and an electric cooktop. Additional storage is built into the home.

Solar panels and an RV-style hookup
The roof carries solar panels, and the house also has a standard RV-style hookup. New Atlas does not identify the panels’ make or wattage, or report battery capacity, inverter details, energy generation or storage. It also provides no operating data showing whether the Pego can remain off-grid indefinitely.
For that reason, “off-grid” is best understood as the feature’s framing rather than a demonstrated performance specification. The reported solar equipment and RV-style connection describe what is present; they do not establish how much power the house can supply or how it is intended to be connected in use.
