MetaWealth reported that construction was underway in an announcement dated 31 August 2026, with commercial operation targeted for April 2027. That date is a forecast, not a completed milestone.
What is being built at Dumbrava?
The project is a standalone battery storage facility near Transelectrica’s Dumbrava substation. Its reported ratings are 50 MW of power and 100 MWh of energy capacity. MetaWealth describes it as a two-hour system: at its rated power, 100 MWh corresponds to two hours of discharge, before accounting for operating conditions and system losses.

Parapet’s project announcement lists this configuration:
- 20 battery energy storage system units;
- five power conversion system (PCS) units; and
- a new 20/110 kV high-voltage substation equipped with a transformer.
The announcements do not identify the equipment manufacturers, battery chemistry or specific models, so those details cannot be established from the published specifications.

Who is responsible for the project, and what does the EPC scope cover?
Parapet describes its contract as Light EPC, covering engineering, light procurement and full construction works. The term describes the contractor’s stated scope; it does not, by itself, specify which equipment is included in procurement or assign every project risk.
How will the battery connect to the grid?
MetaWealth says the grid connection was approved and is approximately 300 metres from the transmission substation. The company also says the connection does not require additional network reinforcement. These are project-announcement details; the cited material does not include an independent grid-operator confirmation or connection study.

What is the battery intended to do?
MetaWealth says the system is designed to charge when electricity prices are lower and discharge when demand and prices rise. It is also intended to respond to system imbalances and support grid stability. Those are stated operating purposes, not evidence that the plant has begun trading, earned revenue or qualified to provide ancillary services. Grid-balancing participation remains subject to the required prequalification.

What is the construction status and expected schedule?
MetaWealth’s 31 August 2026 financing announcement said construction was underway and set April 2027 as the expected commercial-operation target. Founder and CEO Michael Topolinski said: “With financial close achieved and construction underway, our focus is now on delivering the project towards its April 2027 commercial-operation target.”

A separate MetaWealth update said the main transformer had arrived at port and was scheduled for unloading on 11 September 2026. It also said the batteries and PCS equipment were prepared for shipment from China, and site work with the EPC contractor was scheduled to begin in September. The post’s text and video transcript differ slightly on the planned site-start date, so the available account does not support a precise day.
An earlier MetaWealth announcement from January 2026 gave different commissioning projections for an initial 30 MWh co-located component and a 130 MWh total. That earlier schedule is not the later Dumbrava target: the current stated target for commercial operation is April 2027.

How is the project financed?
MetaWealth reported first financial close and a €19 million financing package for Dumbrava on 31 August 2026. It described the package as approximately €10 million of seven-year senior credit from CEC Bank and €9 million of sponsor and investor capital. The announcement does not establish a final project cost or disclose further loan terms.

How does Dumbrava fit MetaWealth’s wider storage programme?
The 31 August announcement put MetaWealth’s identified and development pipeline at approximately 850 MWh, with an estimated investment of approximately €160 million. These are programme-wide figures, not additional capacity or investment assigned solely to Dumbrava.

The announcement also named a separate 48 MW/100 MWh project at Sânpaul, Mureș County, and approximately 650 MWh of further capacity under development. The projects should be distinguished from Dumbrava’s own 100 MWh rating.
What does the Romanian market context show—and not show?
An AGERPRES report carrying MetaWealth’s 31 August announcement said Romania added approximately 2.2 GW of solar capacity in 2025 and exceeded 8.5 GW of installed solar capacity in August 2026. It also said solar supplied between one-quarter and, on some days, more than half of daytime electricity demand. These figures are attributed to the company announcement; they are not independently verified here against system-operator data.
The same announcement cited DNV’s 2025 figure of €168/MWh for the difference between Romania’s highest and lowest hourly day-ahead electricity prices within a single day. MetaWealth explicitly cautioned that this spread is not a forecast of future returns. A historical intraday price range does not establish what Dumbrava will earn: revenue depends on actual market conditions, operating performance, costs and any services for which the plant qualifies.
