OSU’s official Homecoming pages document the university’s traditions, but they do not describe this project. Without a direct account, the people involved, the build, and the surprise itself should be treated as unverified.
What is known about the playhouse story
The title describes a specific event, but no direct account from OSU, the students, the family, or another attributable source is available here to establish that it happened as described. That means details such as the girl’s identity, age, diagnosis, family circumstances, the students’ roles, the playhouse’s design, and her response cannot responsibly be stated as facts.

The title alone also does not establish what the girl or her family wanted, or whether they wished to share personal details. Those matters should not be inferred from a description of illness or from the idea of a surprise.

Oklahoma State University says its first Homecoming was part of the Harvest Carnival in fall 1913. The OSU Alumni Association held the first official Homecoming celebration on October 30, 1920, when 90 alumni returned to Stillwater. OSU’s official Homecoming page also traces the house-decoration tradition to the 1920s, when sororities decorated their doorways.

Walkaround and pomping
OSU Student Affairs describes Walkaround as an opportunity to see house decorations created by fraternities, sororities, and residence halls. It defines pomping as placing tissue paper into chicken wire. Those are documented parts of OSU Homecoming, but no available source connects this particular playhouse story to Walkaround, pomping, or the house-decoration tradition. OSU Student Affairs’ Homecoming overview explains those traditions.
A separate OU playhouse project is not evidence
A University of Oklahoma page describes architecture students building a playhouse for the Dallas CASA Parade of Playhouses, a fundraiser for an organization helping abused children. That was a separate project at a different university, reported by the University of Oklahoma Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture on June 20, 2019. It does not verify an OSU construction science project or a gift to a girl with cancer.

What would establish the event
A direct university release, the original published account, or attributable reporting from participants would be needed to confirm the project and describe it accurately. Any account should identify its source and date for project details, and include personal or medical information only when it is reliably sourced and appropriate to share.
