Omaha’s October 8, 2026 road-construction report lists the most concentrated disruptions along the Omaha Streetcar corridor, from Blackstone and Midtown through downtown and the Old Market. It also covers work elsewhere in Greater Omaha and Council Bluffs. These are conditions and schedules reported for that date—not a live traffic feed—so check current notices before choosing a route.

How to use this report

The closure details and projected completion dates below come from Grow Omaha’s October 8, 2026 report. They have not been independently confirmed against current transportation-agency notices. Some dates may have passed or changed; verify a specific segment before traveling.

Blackstone and Midtown: Farnam and Turner

  • Utility work is reported at Turner Boulevard’s intersections with Farnam and Harney, with completion anticipated in fall.
  • Mainline track work blocks the north lane of Farnam and street parking from 31st to 39th Streets. The report projected that this phase would finish in early 2027, followed by work on the south lanes for eastbound tracks and stops.
  • Farnam is reported westbound-only from Turner Boulevard to 40th Street. The westbound travel lane was expected to remain open during utility investigations and overhead-pole foundation work between 39th and 40th Streets. The report identifies alternative parking at 40th and Harney.
  • Rails north of Farnam, west of 40th Street, were slated to be moved in October, with traffic control removed. A new rail laydown area was planned south of Farnam, east of Turner Boulevard.

Farnam and Harney: utility and water-main work

  • Utility replacement on Farnam between 24th and 27th Streets was reported through the end of 2026. Harney utility work was described as finished between I-480 and 26th Street, but continuing east of 26th Street.
  • Water-transmission-main work starting October 5 was reported to close 24th Street from Howard to Douglas, and Farnam and Harney from 20th Street to 24th Avenue, for about two months.
  • Additional utility replacement between 18th and 24th Streets on Farnam and Harney was reported through year-end. Streetcar track work in the Old Market and downtown was also causing lane closures on Farnam’s north side and Harney’s south side, with intersections closing as construction progressed.
  • Pole foundations were being built on Farnam between 15th and 18th Streets.

16th Street, Harney, Douglas, and Capitol Avenue

  • 16th Street was reported closed between Harney and Farnam for six weeks for electrical duct-bank construction, and between Douglas and Dodge for about two months for a streetcar-power duct bank.
  • Concrete and track work continued on Harney from 10th to 13th Streets. The report warned that equipment movement and noise could affect noise-sensitive people.
  • The temporary westbound Douglas configuration remained closed. The report directed westbound drivers to 8th Street to Harney, or alternatively via Riverfront Drive to Abbott Drive.
  • Work continued on the north side of Capitol Avenue at 10th Street. The report also described concrete work at 8th and Capitol, a Capitol Avenue closure, construction across the 10th Street bridge toward Harney, and planned demolition between Farnam and Harney.

10th Street bridge and Farnam at 8th Street

  • For bridge-sealant work, the report said 10th Street between Douglas and Farnam would close Friday, October 8 at 8 p.m. and reopen by Monday, October 12 at 4 a.m. This is a reported closure window, not confirmation of the segment’s present status.
  • Work was underway at Farnam and 8th Street. The report expected Farnam to return to two-way traffic in early October; that projection may already have changed.

What to check before you travel

  • Confirm the exact street segment and direction affected; nearby blocks may have different access.
  • Check whether the restriction is a full closure, lane restriction, parking restriction, or a changing intersection closure.
  • Verify any posted detour and current opening time, especially for closures with projected dates or no stated timetable.
  • Allow for changing conditions around streetcar work, where construction progresses from block to block.
