PerthNow reported the completed project cost as $8.2 million; the facility expands court access for students and includes a gallery celebrating former students who pursued professional sport.
What the sports hall includes
The hall provides space for basketball, volleyball and netball, alongside changerooms and an office for health and physical education staff. PerthNow also reported that badminton is more accessible in the new facility and that the number of courts has doubled. (PerthNow, 5 September 2024)
Principal James Kent said the hall connects the school’s playing fields and courts. Its side doors can be opened to make more courts available at once, increasing the time students can spend in activity. Kent said the facility supports the physical education curriculum and access to quality facilities across a range of sports.
Which alumni does the gallery honor?
The hall has a gallery of former students who went on to professional careers in sport. Kent described its purpose as both motivating current students and acknowledging alumni achievements. The 2024 report does not name the people featured, so their identities cannot be confirmed from that account.

Cost and project timeline
PerthNow reported the completed project cost as $8.2 million. That followed a 2020 Western Australian Government announcement describing a planned $5 million sports hall beside the school’s performing arts building. The earlier announcement said the project was in planning and expected to begin in late 2021, with the facility intended to accommodate enrolment growth and ease pressure on existing physical education spaces. (Government of Western Australia, 30 June 2020)
The figures refer to different stages: $5 million was the announced planned budget in 2020, while $8.2 million was the cost reported at the 2024 opening. The available reports do not explain the difference, so no particular cause for the change can be established.
