The Ninja SLUSHi XL Smart Frozen Drink Maker (FS601) is a countertop, compressor-cooled machine for making and serving one flavor of frozen drink at a time. Listed by SharkNinja in the U.S. at $349.99, it has a 128-ounce vessel, a 96-ounce maximum liquid fill, and makes 10 or more 9-ounce servings per batch. Its main advantages over the original SLUSHi are the larger batch size, ingredient-sensing SlushAssist technology, six programs, 15 temperature settings, and faster manufacturer-rated chilling.
It is a sensible upgrade for frequent hosts—but not automatically the best choice for small households or anyone who needs multiple flavors at once.

What is the Ninja SLUSHi XL?
The SLUSHi XL freezes liquid while continuously agitating it, creating a slushy texture without the ice that can dilute a blended drink. It is therefore closer to a countertop freezing-and-stirring appliance than to a conventional blender or ice-shaving machine. Ninja describes the system as using RapidChill technology to freeze the drink and maintain its frozen temperature and texture. See SharkNinja’s SLUSHi overview.

The specifications that matter
| Specification | Ninja SLUSHi XL FS601 |
|---|---|
| Listed U.S. price | $349.99 |
| Vessel capacity | 128 oz (approximately 3.7 L) |
| Maximum liquid fill | 96 oz |
| Claimed output | 10+ servings of 9 oz each |
| Programs | Six |
| Texture control | 15 temperature settings plus manual adjustment |
| Dimensions | 19.71 × 8.52 × 17.12 in |
| Weight | 31.53 lb |
| Warranty | One-year limited warranty |
The most important capacity number is 96 ounces of usable liquid, not 128 ounces. The larger figure describes the vessel, while the maximum fill is the number to use when planning recipes and servings. The 10-plus serving claim is based on 9-ounce portions. Check the official FS601 listing for current specifications and pricing.
Is it really twice as big?
Ninja markets the XL as “2X bigger” than the SLUSHi FS300, but that phrase depends on the comparison model and is not a literal description of every capacity measurement. SharkNinja’s comparison information lists the original at 88 ounces and 7-plus servings, versus 128 ounces and 10-plus servings for the XL.
| Model | Vessel | Claimed servings | Flavors at once |
|---|---|---|---|
| SLUSHi FS301 | 88 oz | 7+ | 1 |
| SLUSHi XL FS601 | 128 oz | 10+ | 1 |
| SLUSHi Max FS605 | 150 oz | 12+ | 1 |
| SLUSHi Twist | Two 48-oz vessels | 10+ per side in launch material | 2 or a swirl |
In practical terms, the XL gives you roughly three additional 9-ounce servings per batch compared with the original—not twice the usable liquid. That is still meaningful for a party, particularly when making one recipe for a crowd.

SlushAssist
SlushAssist senses the ingredients and automatically adjusts temperature management, reducing the need to guess which setting to use. It is an automated control feature, not a guarantee that every recipe will produce an identical result. Sugar level, alcohol, starting temperature, volume, and recipe ratios still matter.

Faster chilling
Ninja claims the XL is “2X faster” than the FS301. SharkNinja also advertises frozen drinks in as little as 15 minutes, but that is a best-case manufacturer statement. The SLUSHi platform owner’s guide gives a broader 15-to-60-minute range. A full batch of warm or alcoholic liquid may take longer than the headline time.
More control
The XL has six programs and 15 temperature-control settings, with manual adjustment for thicker or thinner output. SharkNinja confirms the program count, but the accessible product information does not identify every U.S. program label, so individual presets should be checked against the FS601 manual rather than assumed from another SLUSHi model.
What can it make?
Ninja lists soda-based slushies, frozen cocktails and margaritas, frappés, milkshakes, frozen juice, and other liquid-based frozen drinks. The important qualification is that recipes generally need enough sugar to freeze into the intended texture. Low-sugar and sugar-free mixtures may behave differently; follow Ninja’s recipe guidance rather than assuming diet soda will work exactly like a standard sugary drink.
The XL is not a universal frozen-food processor. The platform guide says not to add ice, hot ingredients, or solid ingredients such as loose fruit or ice cream. It is not designed to replace a blender. Blended liquid mixtures should be prepared only as the instructions allow.

Alcohol limits
SharkNinja says the XL is designed for cocktails containing up to 20% alcohol, compared with up to 16% for the original model. This is recipe/input guidance, not a promise that every 20% cocktail will freeze identically or that the finished drink will have that same alcohol concentration. More alcohol makes freezing harder, so do not add extra liquor simply to make a stronger drink.
If the machine detects excessive alcohol or sugar, the platform guide says it can issue an alert and recommends dilution before restarting. Read the SLUSHi owner’s guide for operating restrictions and recovery instructions.
How to use it
- Pour the liquid ingredients into the vessel without exceeding the 96-ounce maximum fill.
- Select a suitable program or SlushAssist.
- Adjust the texture if necessary.
- Allow the drink to reach the target consistency; timing can range from about 15 to 60 minutes depending on the recipe and conditions.
- Dispense through the handle.
- Keep the machine running while serving if the drink needs to remain frozen.
Cleaning is part of the ownership cost
After use, run the built-in rinse cycle, then disassemble the removable vessel, auger, condensation tray, drip tray, and spout. SharkNinja says the removable parts are dishwasher safe, but follow the model’s instructions. Wipe the motor base rather than submerging it.

Counter space and portability
At nearly 20 inches long, more than 17 inches high, and 31.53 pounds, the XL is a substantial appliance. Before buying, check cabinet clearance, storage access, ventilation clearance, and whether the dispensing area works with your preferred glasses. It is best treated as a machine that stays on the counter during entertaining, not as a lightweight appliance to move after every use.
Which SLUSHi should you buy?
- Choose the original FS301 if you usually serve fewer than seven people, have limited counter space, or want the smaller entry point.
- Choose the XL FS601 if you regularly host groups, need 10-plus servings of one flavor, and value automated temperature adjustment.
- Choose the Max FS605 if the largest single-flavor batch matters most. It offers a 150-ounce vessel and 12-plus servings.
- Choose the Twist if guests want different flavors, or if you want cocktails and mocktails simultaneously. It uses two independently operated 48-ounce vessels that can also create a swirl. See SharkNinja’s Twist announcement.
Common problems and fixes
The drink stays too liquid
Check the sugar and alcohol content, confirm the selected program, allow more time, and make sure the machine is not overfilled. Temperature control cannot compensate for an unsuitable recipe.
An alcohol or sugar alert appears
Follow the guide’s dilution instructions, reset the machine, and restart the selected preset.
The machine stops or overloads
Unplug it and allow it to cool for approximately 15 minutes. Remove the relevant parts, clear any auger obstruction, and confirm that the maximum capacity has not been exceeded.

There is an odor
Run the rinse cycle, fully disassemble the dispensing components, wash the removable parts, and dry them thoroughly before storage.
Is the Ninja SLUSHi XL worth it?
Yes, if your use case is frequent entertaining and one large batch of one frozen drink. The extra capacity, SlushAssist, added controls, and claimed faster chilling address the main inconveniences of the original.
No, if you usually make one or two drinks, lack permanent counter space, or need two flavors at the same time. The original is more appropriate for smaller gatherings, while the Twist is more useful for variety and the Max is the better fit for maximum single-flavor output.
