The Sun Nigeria reported the discussion on 10 October 2026. The report describes workers’ concerns and speakers’ recommendations; it does not provide a layoff count, salary data or a measured estimate of mental-health effects.
What construction workers said they are facing
CCESSA National President Dr. Ayodeji Adeyemo linked workplace stress to job insecurity, work demands and family responsibilities, as well as rising food, transportation and healthcare costs. He said responsibilities meant for several employees can fall on one person, while demanding shifts and workloads may leave workers without adequate rest.

Deputy President Cyprian Ighalo described the wider impact of retrenchment and low salaries on workers’ dependants. “When you drop a worker, you are not just dropping a worker, you are putting difficulty into a very large family,” he said, as quoted by The Sun Nigeria.

What the seminar recommended for workers
Adeyemo urged workers to raise excessive workloads with management rather than silently accept responsibilities that make rest impossible. “They should not allow themselves to work without rest,” he said, according to The Sun Nigeria.

What employers and unions were asked to do
CCESSA called on employers to improve working conditions, provide adequate staffing, allow workers time to rest and strengthen mental-health support. Speakers also encouraged employers and unions to foster workplaces where workers can discuss mental health without stigma.

In practical terms, the concerns raised point to staffing, workload and rest as management issues, not solely individual coping challenges. Workers were encouraged to communicate when duties or shifts prevent adequate rest, while employers were urged to respond with supportive working conditions.
