A digital expansion announced by Fire Door Maintenance (FDM by UAP Ltd) is intended to make fire-door training easier to access and compliance work easier to manage. The plans, reported on 13 February 2025, combine an online training platform with an interactive app for professionals who install and maintain fire doors. FDM has not publicly established that every proposed feature is live, so users should confirm current availability, pricing, geography and accreditation directly with FDM.
What is the new interactive fire-door website?
The reported service has two connected elements: an online training platform and a compliance-support app. The platform is intended to handle course bookings and deliver CPD-accredited training. The app is designed to help professionals follow compliance requirements while installing and maintaining fire doors.

That combination targets a practical problem in construction and building maintenance: people need both formal knowledge and a repeatable way to document or check work on site. FDM’s announcement describes the digital products as an expansion of its education offer, not as a replacement for practical instruction.
Who is the service for?
The intended audience includes fire-door inspectors, installers, maintenance teams, contractors, builders’ merchants and other professionals responsible for fire-door performance. General staff who need awareness training may also find the online format useful, but the reported app and practical courses are aimed primarily at people carrying out or supervising technical work.

What happens at the practical academy?
FDM opened a purpose-built fire-door training academy in Bury, Greater Manchester, in 2024. The facility combines classroom teaching with different fire-door types and components so learners can examine construction details and practise installation, repair and maintenance tasks.
FDM reported planned courses covering fire-door inspection, maintenance and installation. The announcement also referred to GQA accreditation and a skills card on completion. Those details describe the reported programme; applicants should verify the exact qualification, assessment and card arrangements for the course they select.

What the app could change on site
A digital compliance workflow can help teams standardise inspections, capture information while work is being carried out and keep installation or maintenance records together. It may be particularly useful where contractors manage many doors across several buildings or need to demonstrate that checks were completed.
However, an app does not itself make a fire door compliant. Correct product selection, installation, maintenance, inspection competence and the relevant building-control requirements remain essential. Users should treat any digital prompts as support for professional procedures, not as a substitute for manufacturer instructions, certification or competent assessment.

How to decide which training route you need
- Define the task. Choose awareness learning for general staff, inspection training for people checking existing doors, or installation and maintenance training for technical teams.
- Check the delivery requirement. Online modules may suit distributed teams, while physical academy sessions are more appropriate when learners must handle doors, frames, seals, closers and other components.
- Confirm the credential. Ask whether the specific course is CPD-accredited, GQA-accredited, or simply a certificate of attendance, and check the assessment requirements.
- Verify current access. Confirm that the booking platform and app are available in your region, what devices they support, whether subscriptions or course fees apply, and how records can be exported or retained.
- Match training to responsibility. Employers should ensure the learner’s role, supervision and ongoing competence match the work they will perform.
Related online learning in the sector
Interactive digital education is also appearing elsewhere in the door sector. A 2026 Foundation in Doors course from the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) uses modules, videos, practical examples and knowledge checks. Its subject areas include fire resistance, smoke control, testing, certification and Building Regulations. That course provides useful context for the wider move toward online learning, but it is not evidence that GAI operates FDM’s website or app.
What remains unconfirmed
- The launch date and live status of every app and platform feature.
- Course prices, subscription costs and any geographic restrictions.
- The full list of CPD or GQA-accredited courses currently available.
- Whether the app supports particular inspection forms, evidence exports, team accounts or integration with existing systems.
- Any referral, partnership or commission programme.
FDM managing director Nicola John said the company’s next phase would build on collaboration and innovation after its first year of training. For construction businesses, the practical test will be whether the finished digital tools provide clear, auditable support alongside competent hands-on training.
