Yes—five new IKEA smart sensors using Matter over Thread are listed for sale on IKEA’s U.S. website. Four cost $9.99 each: TIMMERFLOTTE for temperature and humidity, MYGGSPRAY for motion, MYGGBETT for doors and windows, and KLIPPBOK for water leaks. ALPSTUGA, which measures carbon dioxide and PM2.5 as well as temperature and humidity, costs $34.99.
The important catch is connectivity: these are not ordinary Wi-Fi sensors. For smart-home control, they need a compatible Matter Controller and Thread Border Router. IKEA’s DIRIGERA hub is the simplest IKEA-centered option, but it is not universally required.

IKEA describes the release as a new range of 21 Matter-enabled devices covering lighting, sensors, and everyday controls. The five sensors are new Matter-over-Thread products rather than firmware upgrades that turn older TRÅDFRI devices into native Matter products. IKEA’s Matter-compatible system guide provides the broader product overview.
Older IKEA Zigbee products can still be useful in a Matter household. DIRIGERA can expose supported older IKEA devices to other Matter ecosystems as a Matter Bridge. That does not make the older products Matter-native; DIRIGERA is translating between the systems.

TIMMERFLOTTE: inexpensive temperature and humidity monitoring
TIMMERFLOTTE is the straightforward choice for checking room climate. Pressing the sensor displays temperature and humidity locally, while its Matter connection allows those readings to participate in smart-home automations.
It fits bedrooms, nurseries, basements, offices, plant rooms, and other spaces where comfort or moisture levels matter. For example, it could trigger a notification when a basement becomes unusually humid. It does not measure carbon dioxide or particulate pollution; ALPSTUGA is the IKEA model for those readings.
MYGGSPRAY: motion-triggered lighting
MYGGSPRAY detects movement and light and can trigger lighting automatically. IKEA says it can control up to 10 light sources simultaneously, making it suitable for halls, staircases, garages, entrances, bicycle storage areas, and outbuildings.
Rank #2
- 【Advanced Motion Detection】Completely hands-free and smart operation of your connected lights. The switch automatically turns lights on when motion is detected and turns off after a preset time. Ideal for areas such as bedrooms, hallways and restrooms where hands-free operation is ideal.
- 【Daylight Detection】Smart ambient light detection will sense daylight and prevent lights from turning on during the day.
- 【Smart Mode & Away Mode】Set different light triggers based on your routine for effortless control. Automatically turns devices on and off at different times to give the appearance that someone is home.
- 【Works w/ All Bulb Types】600W Incandescent/Halogen, 300W CFL/MLV/ELV
- 【Voice & App Control】Manage your device with voice commands via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Samsung SmartThings. Hands-free operation of your lights from anywhere through the free Kasa app.
A typical automation is motion detected after dark → turn on hallway lights. IKEA also describes it for indoor and outdoor locations, but the cited product material does not establish unrestricted exposure to rain, freezing temperatures, or a formal weatherproofing rating. For outdoor use, sheltered placement is the prudent choice unless the manual specifies otherwise.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This is best understood as a convenience and lighting sensor, not a professionally monitored security alarm.
MYGGBETT: open-and-close detection
MYGGBETT reports whether a door or window is open or closed. It can send a phone notification when connected to a hub and can trigger automations such as turning on a closet light when a door opens.
The two pieces can be mounted perpendicular to one another, opposite each other, or side by side, which makes it usable on doors, windows, cabinets, closets, and even mailboxes. It uses one AAA battery. Remote notifications depend on a functioning Matter/Thread system, so test the alert where you intend to rely on it.
KLIPPBOK: low-cost leak detection
KLIPPBOK sounds a local alarm when it contacts water and can send a smartphone notification when connected to a hub. Place it beneath sinks, near washing machines, beside water heaters, or next to other leak-prone appliances.

- Designed to pair with the Lennox S40 & E40 Smart Thermostats as part of a fully communicating home comfort system. Not compatible with any other Lennox branded thermostat.
- The Lennox Smart Room Sensor is discrete, completely wireless, and thanks to its versatility and portability, installs in minutes. Can be wall mounted (recommended application) or placed on a shelf using the included stand.
- Occupancy mode allows you to decide if you prefer the occupancy sensor on or off. Saves energy when rooms are not in use via occupancy sensor. Some utility companies may offer rebates for occupancy sensors. Maximum unobstructed distance for the occupancy sensing capability is 20 feet and maximum width pattern of 110º at a mounting height of five feet from the floor.
- This device collects room temperature, humidity and occupancy status and passes that information to the S40 & E40 Smart Thermostats every two minutes to conserve battery life.
- Communicates wirelessly with the S40 & E40 Smart Thermostats via a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Mesh network (proprietary protocol). New Lennox Smart Technician app allows for quick and easy install of S40 & E40 Smart Thermostats and the new smart accessories. Use of Smart Tech app is required for installation.
The local audible alarm is useful even when remote connectivity is unavailable. However, phone alerts require the sensor and smart-home system to be working. KLIPPBOK is not a replacement for a professionally monitored leak-detection or automatic water-shutoff system, particularly in a high-value or unoccupied property.
ALPSTUGA: the more capable air-quality option
ALPSTUGA measures carbon dioxide, PM2.5 particles, temperature, and humidity and can indicate when indoor air quality needs improvement. It can be paired with an air purifier in an automation, but it does not purify air itself.
At $34.99, it costs substantially more than the four $9.99 sensors. It is also USB-powered: IKEA sells the USB-C cable and power adapter separately. The linked SMÅHAGEL power-supply kit was listed at $7.99 in the same dated price snapshot.
IKEA’s available product information does not establish laboratory accuracy, calibration intervals, medical-grade performance, or regulatory certification. Treat ALPSTUGA as a consumer monitoring device, not a diagnostic or professional air-quality instrument.
Do you need the DIRIGERA hub?
You do not necessarily need DIRIGERA, but you do need suitable Matter and Thread infrastructure for smart control. A phone alone generally cannot replace those functions.

- [Notes]An Aqara Hub is required and sold separately.(NOTE:Not support hubs from other brands.) Requires a secured 2.4 gigahertz Wi-Fi network connection for Hub M2/ M1S/ E1/M1S Gen2 and Camera Hub G2H Pro/ G2H, and 2.4/ 5 GHz Wi-Fi for Camera Hub G3.(Wired connection via Ethernet RJ45 for Hub M2 is also supported)
- [Proximity] For a sturdy connection, ensure that the Aqara Door and Window Sensor is within 400 inches of the Aqara Zigbee hub, and the hub is within the same range from the Wi-Fi router. Additionally, make sure the hub and the router are on the same local area network (LAN). Zigbee2MQTT and comparable third-party USB dongles are not officially supported by Aqara. Full product functionality may be limited or unavailable.
- [Unauthorized Entry Detection & Home Automation] The Zigbee Door Sensor alerts your phone and triggers the Aqara Hub's local alarm upon unexpected door/window openings. It also controls other Aqara devices based on door/window status. Conveniently check your door or window, kids room and anywhere you want to be notified.
- [0.86 Inch Wide Gap Allowed]The Aqara Door and Window Sensor works with most types of doors, windows, and other fixtures with similar mechanism, such as drawers, cabinets, and more.(Note: Please ensure that the surface where you plan to stick the Aqara Zigbee Door and Window Sensor is flat and easily adhesive, and the allowed gap between the door is up to 0.86 inch.) The main sensor unit dimension:1.61*0.87*0.43 inch, the magnet dimension:0.79*0.39*0.39 inch.
- [Hands-Free Voice Control] Enjoy a hands-free experience compatible with Apple HomeKit and Alexa. No need to go downstairs or pick up your phone again. You'll always know whether your home door is opening or closing. This sensor must be paired with an Aqara Hub to function. Note: This sensor requires an Aqara Hub (sold separately) to function. Without the hub, it cannot send notifications, trigger automations, or connect to HomeKit, Alexa, or IFTTT.
- Matter is the interoperability and application standard that lets compatible devices communicate with platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Homey, and Samsung SmartThings.
- Thread is the low-power wireless network used by these sensors.
- A Thread Border Router connects the Thread network to the rest of your home network.
- A Matter Controller commissions and manages Matter devices.
- DIRIGERA combines Matter Controller, Matter Bridge, and Thread Border Router functions.
IKEA recommends DIRIGERA because it provides a single, IKEA-supported route through the IKEA Home smart app. The U.S. price observed on August 18, 2026, was $119.99. DIRIGERA requires Wi-Fi and connects to the router with the included cable; IKEA lists iOS 16.4 or later and Android 10 or later for the app.
Choose based on your existing equipment
- Already have a compatible Matter Controller and Thread Border Router? You may be able to buy an individual sensor without DIRIGERA.
- Already own TRÅDFRI or other older IKEA Zigbee products? DIRIGERA is the most useful option because it can bridge supported IKEA products into Matter platforms.
- Starting from zero? DIRIGERA is the least ambiguous IKEA setup, although it adds $119.99 to the cost.
- Using Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa? Confirm that your specific home hub supports both the relevant Matter device type and Thread. IKEA specifically identifies HomePod and Apple TV as Apple Home controllers; capabilities vary by Google Nest and Amazon Echo model.
- Using Home Assistant or Homey? These can suit advanced, multi-brand setups, but exact hardware and integration support matter. They may require more configuration than IKEA’s guided route.
Matter improves interoperability, but it does not guarantee identical features everywhere. Pairing, history, battery reporting, notifications, and automation options can vary between Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, Home Assistant, Homey, and SmartThings. IKEA’s official pages list broad compatibility, not a complete matrix for every hub combination.
How to set up an IKEA Matter sensor
- Install the required power source. TIMMERFLOTTE, MYGGSPRAY, and MYGGBETT use AAA batteries; KLIPPBOK uses two AAA batteries; ALPSTUGA needs USB-C power.
- Put the sensor into pairing mode according to its instructions.
- Open the smart-home app you intend to use, such as IKEA Home smart, Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa.
- Scan the unique Matter QR code on the yellow packaging insert.
- If scanning fails, enter the 11-digit numeric Matter code printed on the device or packaging.
- Assign the sensor to a room.
- Create and test an automation—for example, motion to hallway lighting, an opened door to a closet light, detected water to a phone alert, or high CO₂ to an air purifier.
If you are using DIRIGERA, update and configure the hub in the IKEA Home smart app before adding devices. Keep the packaging and Matter code: it may be needed for a later pairing attempt or for sharing the device with another ecosystem.
What to do when pairing fails
- Confirm that a Thread Border Router is active and that the selected platform supports the sensor’s Matter device type.
- Move the sensor closer to the border router during commissioning.
- Try the numeric Matter code instead of scanning the QR code.
- Remove any incomplete pairing from the smart-home app before starting again.
- Reinsert or replace the battery, especially if the device does not enter pairing mode.
- Update the IKEA Home smart app, DIRIGERA software, and relevant platform software.
- If the sensor works in IKEA Home smart but not in another ecosystem, share it to that ecosystem through Matter rather than assuming it will appear automatically through a bridge integration.
- Test the sensor locally and test the notification path before depending on it for a leak, security, or health-related alert.
Independent coverage has reported confusing third-party hub requirements and pairing difficulties, while IKEA product reviews include both successful Matter-over-Thread installations and complaints about devices going offline. Those are reported experiences, not controlled failure-rate measurements. A March 2026 report also described DIRIGERA firmware 2.934.0 as improving onboarding stability; that was a historical update, not confirmation of the current firmware version.
Are IKEA’s sensors a good deal?
The individual prices are unusually low. Four basic sensors cost $9.99 each, making it affordable to place several around a home. They are especially compelling if you already have a Matter/Thread setup and want low-power sensors without adding a separate Wi-Fi device for each room.
Best Value
- ZIGBEE STANDARD COMPATIBLE MOTION SENSOR: A Zigbee Hub is required. Compatible with Zigbee hubs and Echo devices with built-in Zigbee hubs, including Echo (4th Gen), Echo Plus (1st & 2nd Gen), Echo Studio, Echo Show 8 (3rd Gen), Echo Show 10 (2nd & 3rd Gen), Echo Hub, Eero 6, Eero Pro 6, Home Assistant, SmartThings (2015/2018), Aeotec, Hubitat, Homey Bridge, Homey Pro, and Third Reality Hub Gen2 Plus.
- CREATE ROUTINES: Using the Alexa app, create your own routines that are triggered when motion is detected. Customize Alexa messages like “Welcome Home” or “Motion Detected in Living Room” when motion is detected.
- SMART LIGHT CONTROL: If you have a smart light or smart plug connected to the Alexa service, you can create a routine in the Alexa app that will enable it to automatically turn on when motion is detected (and off when no motion is detected for a period of time that you specify).
- HASSLE-FREE SETUP: Installs in a few seconds. Just make sure device in paring mode and compatible Echo device automatically discovers it by saying “Alexa, discover devices”. Only for indoor use.
- GREAT RANGE AND LONG BATTERY LIFE : Capable of detecting motion up to 20 feet (6 meters) away. 2 AAA batteries can last for 2 years in typical usage.
The calculation changes for a first-time IKEA buyer. Four basic sensors plus DIRIGERA total approximately $159.95 before batteries and tax. Add ALPSTUGA and the hardware subtotal becomes approximately $194.94, excluding its power accessory. Those figures are calculated from the dated U.S. prices above.
As a result, the $9.99 headline price is most meaningful for an existing compatible smart-home owner. If you need only one sensor and have no Thread Border Router, the hub can cost many times more than the sensor itself. Conversely, DIRIGERA becomes easier to justify if you want several IKEA sensors, have older IKEA Zigbee products, or prefer a single guided setup.

Who should buy them?
Buy TIMMERFLOTTE for inexpensive temperature and humidity checks. Choose MYGGSPRAY for motion-triggered lighting, MYGGBETT for doors, windows, cabinets, and mailboxes, and KLIPPBOK for additional local leak alarms. Choose ALPSTUGA when CO₂ and PM2.5 readings matter more than battery operation or the lowest price.
Buy DIRIGERA with the sensor if you are building an IKEA smart home from scratch, want to integrate older IKEA Zigbee products, or do not want to investigate third-party Thread and Matter compatibility. Buy only the sensor if your existing Apple, Google, Amazon, Homey, Home Assistant, or SmartThings installation already supplies the necessary Matter and Thread functions.
Skip or delay these products if you need professionally monitored security, certified leak protection, guaranteed identical behavior across every platform, or a battery-powered air-quality monitor. For outdoor MYGGSPRAY placement, use a sheltered location unless IKEA’s current manual confirms broader weather exposure.
Bottom line
IKEA’s new Matter sensors are real U.S. products, and the four basic models are inexpensive enough to make multi-room monitoring practical. Their biggest limitation is also the most important buying detail: Matter over Thread does not mean hub-free operation. You can avoid DIRIGERA if another compatible Matter Controller and Thread Border Router already serve your home, but you cannot simply expect a phone to operate these sensors on its own.
For the clearest IKEA setup, DIRIGERA plus the sensor that matches your use case is the safer route. For an established Matter/Thread home, the individual $9.99 sensors are the better value.
