Pinamar’s Municipality and the Colegio de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (CAUBA), Distrito 9, are holding a national, single-stage ideas competition to rethink Avenida del Mar as a connected coastal public-space system. The study area extends approximately 3,000 linear metres from Quintana to Del Juncal and covers an estimated 72,285 m².
Registration remains open through 23 November 2026. Proposals are due 30 November, with the jury scheduled for 7 December and the result for 14 December. The call is anonymous and non-binding: winning the competition does not guarantee a later contract for preliminary design, full design or construction documentation.

What the Avenida del Mar competition is asking for
The brief treats Avenida del Mar as more than a traffic route. It asks teams to make the avenue a structuring element of Pinamar’s coastal public-space network, improving how the city, beach, dune system and sea work together.

#1 Best Overall
Issues the proposals must resolve
- Higher-quality, more accessible public space along the coastal frontage.
- More orderly coexistence among vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and other mobility modes.
- Stronger physical and visual connections between the urban fabric, beach, dunes and sea.
- Design responses that respect beach, dune, marine, environmental and landscape conditions.
- A coherent identity for Avenida del Mar and its relationship to Pinamar.
- Phased implementation that can be delivered over time.
- Operation and usefulness in all seasons, not only during the summer peak.
Where the intervention is located
The competition area runs from Quintana to Del Juncal along Avenida del Mar. Published municipal figures put the corridor at approximately 3,000 linear metres and an estimated 72,285 m². Those figures define the scale of the design problem: a continuous coastal corridor with links to adjoining streets and public spaces, rather than a single plaza or building site.
The brief’s coastal scope means a successful concept must account for transitions between hard urban surfaces and the beach–dune system. It also has to remain workable as conditions change through the year, including periods of lower visitation and different operational demands.
Who can enter
A local competition notice describes eligibility as architects from anywhere in Argentina who hold a qualifying degree and maintain active professional registration. Participation is anonymous. Because that eligibility summary comes from a secondary notice, entrants should rely on the current downloadable bases on the CAUBA platform for the definitive requirements, team rules, documentation and registration procedure.
The organizers identify the call as a national ideas competition, single-stage, anonymous and non-binding. “Ideas competition” and “non-binding” are important legal distinctions: the jury is selecting a design direction, not awarding a guaranteed construction commission.

Key dates for the 2026 call
| Milestone | Date |
|---|---|
| Competition opens | 2 October 2026 |
| Registration closes | 23 November 2026 |
| Proposal delivery | 30 November 2026 |
| Jury | 7 December 2026 |
| Result announced | 14 December 2026 |
Dates, registration access and the downloadable bases can change, so teams should verify the active CAUBA notice before submitting. The schedule leaves only one week between delivery and the planned jury date, followed by another week before the result announcement.
Prizes and the role of the jury
| Recognition | Amount |
|---|---|
| First prize | ARS 10,000,000 |
| Second prize | ARS 3,000,000 |
| Third prize | ARS 1,000,000 |
| Honorary mentions | At the jury’s discretion |
The prize amounts are those listed in the municipality’s 2026 announcement. The jury may also grant honorary mentions. The published material does not establish a separate project budget, implementation fund or fee schedule for subsequent services.
Does the winner receive the design commission?
No. The call is explicitly non-binding, and the bases allow that the winning team may or may not be contracted later for the preliminary design, project and construction drawings. A first prize therefore recognizes the winning idea and pays the stated award, but it is not a promise of appointment as the project architect.
Teams considering the competition as a route to work in Pinamar should separate three outcomes: the jury’s ranking, receipt of the prize, and any later procurement or professional-services agreement. Only the first two are defined by the published competition announcement; a later commission would require a separate decision and contract.

- Promoter: Municipality of Pinamar.
- Organizer: CAUBA, Distrito 9.
- Sponsors: CAUBA and the Federación Argentina de Entidades de Arquitectos (FADEA).
- Municipal adviser: architect Jesica Meilan.
- CAUBA District 9 adviser: architect Francisco Villamil.
This structure places the municipality as the public promoter while the professional organizations manage the competition framework and sponsorship.
What a strong entry needs to demonstrate
The brief rewards an integrated public-realm strategy, not a cosmetic streetscape treatment. Before submission, teams should be able to show how their concept:
- connects the full Quintana–Del Juncal corridor instead of concentrating only on a landmark segment;
- makes movement safer and clearer while preserving access for different users;
- protects and works with dune, beach and landscape systems;
- creates a recognizable Avenida del Mar identity without severing the city from the coast;
- can be built in phases, with useful early packages and a credible long-term sequence; and
- supports everyday, off-season operation as well as summer demand.
The final submission format, required drawings, anonymity protocol and any technical limits are controlled by the current CAUBA bases. Those documents should be treated as the authority for compliance questions.
Why the competition matters for Pinamar
A corridor of roughly three kilometres and 72,285 m² can influence access, safety, landscape performance and the identity of the entire waterfront. By framing the avenue as public infrastructure that links the urban fabric to the beach–dune–sea system, the competition invites proposals that combine transport planning, landscape architecture, accessibility and coastal resilience.
Its non-binding status also means the result should be read as a tested design direction rather than a construction announcement. The eventual physical changes, if pursued, would still depend on later decisions, technical development, approvals, funding and contracting.
