The original coverage is useful as a record of the promotion, but it should not be treated as proof that the price is available today. What is the Narwal Freo X Ultra?
The Freo X Ultra is a premium robot vacuum-and-mop system built around automated floor cleaning. It combines vacuuming, dual rotating mop pads, LiDAR mapping, obstacle detection, automatic mop washing and drying, and Narwal’s DirtSense cleaning logic.
Its unusual dust-handling system is important: rather than relying on a dock to suck debris from a conventional robot dustbin, the Freo X Ultra compresses dust inside the robot into a disposable bag. That can reduce dock suction noise and make emptying less frequent, but it does not eliminate consumables or maintenance.

Why the Freo X Ultra attracted positive coverage
The original hands-on coverage reported strong cleaning on hardwood, carpet, and most rugs, along with good dog-hair pickup. The reviewer also found that DirtSense could continue mopping when the recovered water remained dirty, and noted that the internal dust-compression approach was quieter than systems that empty the robot after every run. Those are observations from the original review, not independent testing for this article.
There was a qualification: the robot reportedly struggled with at least one dark, low-pile rug. That matters because mop lifting and obstacle detection do not guarantee perfect behavior on every rug or floor transition.

- Mopping: Two rotating mop pads, 12 N of downward pressure, and mop rotation up to 180 rpm according to Narwal product material.
- Mop care: The dock washes and dries the mop pads automatically.
- DirtSense: Narwal says the system identifies dirtier areas and can continue cleaning until the returned water is sufficiently clean. That is a feature claim, not a guarantee that every stain will disappear.
- Mop lifting: Narwal’s comparison material lists lifting of up to 12 mm.
- Navigation: LiDAR SLAM 4.0 and 360-degree scanning support room mapping and repeatable routes.
- Obstacle detection: Regional descriptions mention tri-laser structured light plus infrared, ultrasonic, and other sensors.
- Hair handling: Narwal cites TÜV- and SGS-related testing, including a claimed 0% hair-tangling rate and 99.56% hair-removal rate. These are controlled manufacturer-reported test claims, not a promise that the brush never needs inspection.

Specifications vary slightly between regional pages. Narwal’s Canadian product page lists the 8,200 Pa, 12 N, 180-rpm, 210-minute, and seven-week figures, while U.S. support documentation provides dimensions and weights. The battery should therefore be described as roughly 5,000–5,200 mAh depending on the regional specification, rather than as one universal figure.

“Self-emptying” does not mean maintenance-free
The Freo X Ultra’s compressed-dust design can store debris for up to seven weeks or about 70 days, according to Narwal and the original coverage. That is an upper-bound estimate. Homes with pets, long hair, multiple occupants, large floor areas, or frequent cleaning may fill the bag much sooner.
You still need to replace the robot’s disposable dust bag, refill the clean-water tank, empty the dirty-water tank, clean the wash tray, inspect the roller and side brushes, maintain the filter, and clean sensors and wheels. Narwal’s support library documents these tasks, including dust-bag, filter, brush, mop, tank, sensor, and tray maintenance.
Narwal also provides a dedicated Freo X Ultra floor-cleaner product path. Factor in dust bags, mop pads, filters, brushes, and cleaning solution when calculating the long-term cost. Automatic washing and drying reduce manual work; they do not remove it.

Navigation, rugs, and setup realities
LiDAR mapping should help the robot create consistent room maps, and Narwal lists multi-level mapping and app or voice control among the features. Even advanced obstacle avoidance can have trouble with thin cables, socks, toys, dark or reflective objects, clutter, low furniture, narrow thresholds, and changing floor surfaces. A quick floor pickup is still sensible before a cleaning run.
Measure the dock before purchasing. Its footprint is about 41.5 cm wide by 37 cm deep, and it stands about 43.4 cm high. Leave enough surrounding space for the robot to depart and return, and make sure both water tanks can be removed comfortably. Also check doorways and floor transitions; mop lifting of up to 12 mm does not guarantee trouble-free travel across every threshold or rug.
Who should buy the Freo X Ultra?

Should you choose another Narwal?
The standard Narwal Freo is the simpler, lower-tier option in Narwal’s comparison material. It is listed with 3,000 Pa suction and a 500-ml dust bin, compared with the Freo X Ultra’s 8,200 Pa rating and compressed-dust system. It may suit buyers who want Narwal’s mopping approach without paying for the X Ultra’s higher-end dust handling and sensor hardware.

Also check newer models before paying a premium for older hardware. Narwal’s North American model list includes the Freo Z Ultra, Freo Z10 Ultra, Freo Pro, and Narwal Flow. Which one is the better purchase depends on its verified U.S. price, availability, support, warranty, and current features at the time you shop.
Current flagship alternatives from Roborock, Dreame, Ecovacs, and iRobot are also worth comparing, particularly for carpet pickup, obstacle avoidance, app performance, consumable costs, warranty coverage, and automatic water or drainage options. Without verified live pricing, it would be misleading to name one as the definitive better deal.

At approximately $1,100, buy only if the offer is still live, the unit comes from a trustworthy authorized source, and you value that mopping automation enough to justify the premium. Compare first if a newer Narwal is close in price. Skip it if you mainly need carpet cleaning, lack dock space, or do not want recurring bags, detergent, filters, and mop-pad maintenance.
